I figured I'd post this here. I can't find a problem with my stance in all honesty. I figure you autists would be able to point out the problems in my view if any are present.

Non-violent crimes should result in corporal punishment, not prison

Steal something? Five lashes. Assault someone? Five lashes. Do you think a criminal really learns something about the negative impacts of them stealing by sitting in a room playing Yugioh with other felons? All evidence shows they don't. You know what would? Whipping the shit out of them.

Muh cruel and unusual

Public beatings are not cruel or unusual. If you are whipped the wounds heal, if you are locked up the time does not return. The prison system is objectively more cruel than public whippings as it subjects you to losses that can never be remedied, as well as mutts law. Say you are wrongfully convicted of a crime. You get whipped and your back hurts for a month. You go to prison and you just lost 3 years of your life. Say exculpatory evidence shows up, a million dollars can make up for a whipping, it cannot make up for 3 years of your life.

The psychosocial effects

How often do you think about men in prison? For the average person it's probably very little. That's because prison is a shitty deterrent for crime. "Haven't heard from Joe recently, oh he got sent to rikers" . Out of sight out of mind. "Oh shit Joe got caught stealing and has been sentenced to public flogging, fuck that looks like it hurts". People have this false assumption that everyone is rational and can be "rehabilitated". In truth the majority of criminals are like children that need to be conditioned to associate negative behavior with pain.

i see nothing wrong with this but it all comes down to morals, its easier to justify psychological crime as its not seen on the surface and often (as in your case with prison) doesnt require someone to "stoop to their level" or so to say.
paying someone on a government level to violently attack someone is just not morally permissible from the point of view of a society and looks bad from a government standpoint.

on another note i know of a far better replacement for prison that both deters criminals and gets rid of them thus improving the society as a whole.

Yeah, but Joe will be back on the streets in a week or two, probably with a hospital bill that he needs to pay. What do you think he'll start doing?
