In the past couple of months, I've seen several videos of girls who undergo this kind of waist training to make themselves have skinnier waists. Some of them, like this young woman go in such wild directions with it that she's ended up with lots of scarring and her own digestive system changing in a bad way. She's from France and she was featured on the Barcroft TV YouTube channel. There are several videos on that YouTube channel about other woman who have done this that I'll include here too.

Corseting has a history dating back as far as the 16th century where the corset was meant to flatten a woman's bustline. The corsets that were made back then were made out of whalebone, horn and buckram and were rigid in their construction. It had a different purpose back then and many aristocrats would wear these to have a conical shape with their bodies, like in this painting of Queen Elizabeth the First.

Over the centuries, the ideal shape for women wearing these corsets changed and bodices became more in favor over the corset. There's obviously a lot more to the history but the point is that this has been around forever and there's been a resurgence in interest in wearing corsets again, even though brassieres and other attire became more popular from what I understand. Correct me if I'm wrong. For more history, check out these cool links.

Also, a Quora link explaining why people have taken such great interests in corsets again.

I got sent some of these pictures from a possible cosplaycow that's really into corseting too if you want more grossness to look at. I might actually spin this off into a Lolcow thread later today or tomorrow.

Waist training and corsets are for women that are too lazy to work out and would rather destroy their insides in favor of hard work.

Other cringe inducing diet fads I see gaining popularity are "skinny teas", that just make you shit constantly and all fruit diets, which also make you shit constantly.

Eh, what's old is new again. This was a fashion back in the 1800's or something.
Tightlacing wasn't even that common in the 1800s. Corsets were worn but they were mostly just a form of undergarmet that provided support similarly to a bra. There was tightlacing but it was less common and sort of the 1800s equivalent of dieting. A pretty common cause of health problems but far from universal

How the fuck are you supposed to even breathe?

Like holy jesus is the first one horrifying
Corsets are typically much lower than the respiratory system. It's usually not a problem unless you're going for an asphyxiation fetish that you want to indulge. It's likely the first one wears a corset designed for that.

I remember reading somewhere that a couple hundred years ago, a corset was doing it's job on a woman's shape if her husband could put her hands on his waist and have his fingertips touch.

That sounds appallingly disgusting.
I'm a skinny person who finds this as a mundane occurrence. Of course, it's not realistic for everyone.

Didn't some of them have ribs removed so they could lace them tighter? I haven't heard of any modern corset nut going that far. I remember that from a history show about crazy medical procedures. I'm not saying it was common, just that crazies have always, and will always be with us.

My guess is that it's a modern myth based on modern weirdos. The mortiality of major surgery during that era would meant no one would preform or undergo the procedure. The real health hazard was a distortion of the skeleton.

You should feel terrible if a liposuction would result in something less horrfying then....

Like, oh god. How do her organs work?

Likewise, corsets can't break your ribs -- they're not strong enough. Tight lacing isn't good for you, but it won't break any bones. Whereas a properly worn corset should provide support, much like a bra, you're always going to have idiots who go overboard for fashion. If anything, the crinoline was much more hazardous than the corset. That being said, tightlace is fucking creepy -- it doesn't affect your internal organs all that much, but it will wreck hell on your muscles and it may give you constipation, believe it or not.

(I absolutely adore vintage fashion and reading about it, and there are a lot of myths out there)

Didn't crinolines catch on fire a lot, especially since people used candles back then?
