A viral trend claims to educate women who believe they are attracted to men but have only been socially conditioned into thinking they are heterosexual.

Compulsory heterosexuality, colloquially known as ‘comphet’, is a term used to describe the belief that Western culture has coerced women into trying to view all connections between men and women as sexual or romantic.

The argument is all women have been conditioned from childhood to view any feelings they have towards men as attraction - with some authors even going so far as to say all females are actually lesbian by nature.

TikTok users are now sharing checklists to help women work out if they are bisexual or lesbian, posting clips with the hashtag ‘comphet’.

Viewers are challenged to ask themselves a list of questions to see how they respond.

The lists include questions such as: 'Am I only attracted to celebrities or other unattainable men?' and 'Do you like guys until they like you back?'

It is claimed if you answer 'yes' to these questions then you are not actually attracted to men, but have simply been conditioned to think that you are.

1. Are you only attracted to celebrities or other unattainable men?

2. Do you like men until they like you back?

3. Have you kissed girl friends for 'practice'?

4. Do you feel bored or nauseous when intimate with men?

5. Do you enjoy hanging out with men until they flirt?

If you answer yes to these, then you are supposedly a lesbian or bisexual, according to the users.

One video on the topic, by Marin-Elizabeth, which had more than 80,000 likes, claimed to reveal the 'common signs of compulsory heterosexuality'.

These include: 'Liking guys until they like you back, only liking fictional men and celebrities, kissing your girl friends when you were younger to "practise for guys" and feeling bored when intimate with guys.'

'Feeling nauseous when intimate with guys and love hanging out with them until they flirt (even when you're dating),' were other signs mentioned.

The term was coined by lesbian feminist Adrienne Rich in her 1980 essay ‘Compulsory Heterosexuality and the Lesbian Experience’, according to .

Rich argued that heterosexuality is a political institution in which women are oppressed by men.

The author suggested everyone - including women themselves - are naturally attracted to women, while attraction to men is learned.

But while usage of the term online continues to grow, it isn’t without controversy, with some suggesting the phrase has been used to ‘exclude and invalidate other queer women, particularly trans and bisexual women.’

According to Cosmopolitan, the popularity of the term compulsory heterosexuality is possibly due to the viral 30-page Google Doc about lesbianism which went viral last year.

Angeli Luz, 21, created the document when questioning her own sexuality before anonymously publishing a public link to it in January 2018.

The 30-page text explores how societal conditioning can lead lesbians to have conflicting feelings and attraction toward men.

'I realised I loved women when I was a teenager, but I never quite knew if my attraction for men was real or a social construct I took in as a facet of my identity,' Luz told .

'I started researching compulsory heterosexuality and found that many lesbians had the same experiences I did. I created the document as a tool of self-reflection for myself and others.'

It begins with a section explaining compulsory heterosexuality - and Luz later notes that 'many lesbians STILL struggle with compulsory heterosexuality even when they know they don’t want men.'

I don't think pushing the narrative that sexuality can be changed is going to work out for the gays. The whole argument for acceptance was "born that way" and it can't be changed. Even worse, they are preying on young girls who might be nervous about sex. Teen girls might like the fantasy of it (hence the fantasies of movie stars and other unobtainable men) but might be scared about having actual sex for the first time. That fear can make you feel nauseous. You might like a boy, but then get scared of having to be intimate and end the relationship.

A lot of girls who are molested also have some major anxiety about sex, too. It can be hard to untangle your emotions regarding a traumatic experience and be able to relax and enjoy sex (or even just making out) if you haven't really come to terms with that experience.

There are lots of reasons why a girl/woman might be reluctant to have relationships or sex with members of the opposite sex. The only thing that matters in determining that you are a lesbian is that 1) you are an actual female and 2) you are sexually attracted to other real females. That's it. All this other stuff just sounds like things that you should see a shrink about.

If straight women can be “tricked” into becoming lesbians, then maybe it is true that all homosexual men were actually straight and then got tricked and turned homosexual. How were these men tricked into becoming homosexual? Lots of different possibilities but I think the biggest one is child rape. The number of homosexual men who were raped as children is very high. So if women can be turned lesbian, that means the Bible can be used to turn homosexual men straight again. I am now more against homosexuality. Men are not really homosexual. seriously, though, most of those seem to be less about “are you a lesbian” and more “have you had shitty relationships”. I have met girls who decided they might be lesbians because they were completely unsuccessful in romance, but I think that’s a lot closer to prison gay or inceldom or something than “real” lesbianism.

Most of these just sound IIke an attempt to convince 14-yo straight girls who are naturally nervous and hesitant about male sexuality even as they’re kind of attracted to it that their reticence and caution means they’re lesbians. It doesn’t. It just means they’re typical teenage girls and male sexuality seems really aggressive and offputting yet also appealing and thus confusing.

If they said these exact things in relation to gays or lesbians, asking if they're actually straight. or just 'conditioned' to be gay there would be an uproar about it -

Its real interesting how the same people who claim gays are born that way and kids totally can't be conditioned to become homosexual or bisexual also endorse articles like this claiming you can be 'conditioned' to 'think' you're straight. But point out the contradictory logic here and you'll get screeched at for being a homophobic bigot

That doesn't even make logical sense. The entire purpose of having two sexes is reproduction to continue the species. That is why different sexes exist, its why sex exists. Any species where the females are all lesbian by nature will by definition not reproduce and will go extinct pretty quickly. Humans would not exist if women were 'lesbian by nature'

I swear, people that put out articles like this and have these kinds of views are absolutely sexual predators who get off on trying to manipulate people for sexual purposes. Only a predator would say shit like that or have that kind of mentality
