I don't remember anyone campaigning on promising to arrest people who do things like this.

Probably because no-one would vote for something this stupid.

This is one of those stupid backdoor things that they decide to do anyway and then the voters are all like 'well this is retarded, but at least (opposition party) isn't in control, best not rock the boat'.

I think we can all agree that the real problem with Hitler is that he did not kill enough people in the UK.
In Canada, this was snuck into the charter while the entirety of the country was looking away due to a political debate over regionalism. Probably the same case with the UK.
That is wrong. The majority of people in these countries support these laws. They believe that freedom of expression requires/obligates one to only say things that the majority likes. Even those loser edgelords at that paper that Allah showed his love to agree with these laws.

This isn't about Nazis or people getting their feelings hurt. It's about putting the fear of God in to people for speaking out loud about anything.
The government has demonstrated that you can be successfully prosecuted for thoughtcrime, and the only reason they’re doing this is to keep their hold on power as secure as possible. I used to feel a sense of relief that as inoffensive and centrist the Tories have become, at least they weren’t a ‘right-wing’ party in name only like the CDU, but it appears that hope has vanished.

I would disagree. The people who support these laws are a small but vocal minority who try to leverage the law for political gain. Id say most people think those laws are fucking retarded

The problem is that they’re never going to come out and say it. Privately they think it’s ridiculous, but they’re either too apathetic to do anything or they don’t believe it affects them.

Ricky Gervais has, according to the BBC, disapproved of this decision on Twitter but he hasn't been funny for decades.

That's actually one of the best BBC articles I have seen in a while, presenting both sides without shoving in their own views about it in some underhanded way, I am actually surprised they bothered to cover it rather than just hiding like it didn't happen with the recent shitty state of their reporting.

They'll be sentencing him April 23nd, I believe. Also, they put the dog on trial for hate crimes against humanity.

oh sorry guys getting arrested for not having a tv licence, see you in the gulags.

Protip: Just don't correspond with TV Licensing. Their main weapon is their database of addresses and they only usually call round during office hours when most people are at work. If you refuse to talk to them or let them in or anything, they can't determine whether or not you have a TV and they have only limited resources so very rarely get a search warrant.

What happens is this. You get a nastygram reminding "The Legal Occupier" that they need a TV licence. A month later they send a red nastygram threatening "home visits" and "enforcement action." They keep trying. Someone comes round, usually in office hours when you're at work, and leaves a card. You ignore it. They give up and the cycle starts again.

They also use pre-printed clipart to look like stamps saying "Enforcement Visit Approved" with the printed signature. However it's always signed "J. Hales" and the letter is printedly signed in my area by a Jane Powell, Plymouth Enforcement Division. It's fooling nobody.

Meanwhile they have like 4 detector vans nationwide which don't work if you don't use a CRT television (the colours aren't bright enough) and they'd need to get RIPA approval to use packet sniffing of Wi Fi and if you hardwire your compy to the router this doesn't work either.
