usually it's a lie people tell when they don't want to give away the real reason for the breakup
in this case i'd speculate it is one of the following, from most likely to least likely:

1) he cheated on her with some groupie whore (possibly trans) and when she found out she left him
2) she found another guy she would rather be with, so she is monkey branching (unlikely with 2 kids under her belt, but not impossible)
3) he has developed a drug habit or a drinking problem and she wants to get herself and the kids out of harms way

I have seen so many divorces as a result of child number 2 being born, break up usually within 18 months of the second being born.

In these cases my suspicion is the second child was conceived as a band-aid baby and band-aid babies never, ever fix relationships. The pregnancy usually gets them to readjust their attitudes, stick together and be more supportive. Husband is extra helpful and nice to pregnant wife. But once the baby is born and sleep deprivation and work of baby #2 gets going things go downhill again really fast.

In these cases baby number is usually claimed to be a "oops" baby, but I think that only applies to the husband. Women are usually the brilliant mind thinking another baby will def help a struggling relationship.
