Counter Strike

Use Hammer++ then, it's way better than normal Hammer. Has ingame lighting preview mode for the 3D viewport which means no more changing lights, recompiling map, testing it ingame, going back to change lights again, recompiling the map again, testing again, rinse and repeat.
Actually I'm working with source 2 right now (Don't ask me why, at this point it's starting to feel like stockholm syndrome), whose map editor does have lighting preview and a lot of other quite nice features. I'm specifically thinking of the actual vscript APIs being literal dogshit. From my personal experience it seems like 10% of functions/classes are documented by valve, 20% have been documented by community experimentation, 50% are entirely undocumented and 20% are literally broken or will crash the game.
I'm just a hobbyist, but comparing the unity C# or unreal C++ API (hell, even the jank ass homebrew godot language) to vscript is a genuine world of difference. It seems like Valve simultaneously wants to abandon the engine since they never develop it further, but also see it as a point of pride, as they keep developing new games for it (HL:A, Deadlock, allegedly HLX). On top of that they also have their 2 largest cash cows (Dota 2, CS2) running on it, so they can't just drop it entirely, even if they wanted.
I'd honestly have a lot more respect for valve if they just said "We don't have the resources to maintain proper modding tools, so you get nothing at all", rather than dangling a rotten carcass in front of us and expecting the community to dissect and document it for them. Source 2 being kept in this weird limbo of "almost a modern game development engine" is real shame. It has all the requirements of modern games; PBR textures, dynamic lighting, post processing, 3D particles, animation graphs, and more, but then it also has these built-in features that literally crash the game if you try to activate them. I want Source 2 to be a viable alternative to Unity and Unreal, I really do, but unless they open source it in a way where you can actual get (and modify!) the class and object definitions directly in the source code, in the same way you can in other engines, Source is doomed to die a slow and extremely painful death.

50% are entirely undocumented
Source is doomed to die a slow and extremely painful death.

I think you are mistaken of how Valve sees their engine. They see it as the DOTA/CS2/Deadlock software, not a general engine to polish up for others to use. It does the bare minimum and keeping it cost effective for themselves. If that means ditching autistic moders that will use it anyway, well good, less work. Epic games business model is the Unreal engine itself, sure they got Fortnite, but it's more their product live tech demo for PR that just happen to make money. Source 2 for Valve is just their tool to make a game to promote Steam.
  • Source is an engine for CS2, DOTA and Deadlock.
  • Unreal is a general engine for everything.

Different priorites, and don't expect Valve to change since Steam is making them money (Kek! a shitty browser) and they are also making movements towards the hardware market now. I hope they fuck with microsoft in the long run on this one!

Is CS 1.0 multiplayer ready?
I'd be up to get headshot and mald at KF chuds.

They see it as the DOTA/CS2/Deadlock software, not a general engine to polish up for others to use.
well, it's definitely their MO at this point. When they first released it along with DotA's rebirth patch (i.e. switched to source 2), they also went hard on giving creators tools to create workshop maps. I think their main incentive was to steal popular maps and re-release them as their own games (e.g. dota underlords was a one-to-one copy of DotA auto chess, just owned by valve), but eventually gave up when they realized that the popularity of most modern games is entirely based on how much money you can throw at marketing and quick live Service-development, which is something that Valve is exceptionally bad at. This is exactly what happened with Teamfight Tactics and the auto chess genre as a whole.
Without the CCP money that Riot (Tencent) has, Valve could never crank out games based on the latest fad the same way that Riot can. Basically, the community that once created their golden geese just became a blueprint for other companies to create massive IPs, so they no longer have any incentive to fund this community development.
It's ironic, though, because this pulling away from the modding community is genuinely going to stifle the creativity of all the companies that rely on these fad-games. Since new fad games are likely never gonna be developed in what's essentially a shitty DotA/CS2 engine with a built in asset bank, they will instead be developed in a production-ready engine (Unity, Godot, Löve, etc.) that cannot be reverse engineered and repackaged before they are already released and have become standalone classics. Balatro and Nubby's number machine is a great example of this; If they had come out as a source/Warcraft 3 mod 15 years ago, you'd probably have seen a Blizzard/Riot/Valve clone raking in cash while the original rots away in a mod DB somewhere.
With that said, fuck big companies and their IP theft, I'm glad they don't get to make money off other people's creativity any more.

Also, as a sidenote, UE is definitely the lesser cash cow of Epic games - from what I can tell, Fortnite (as expected) is definitely where the real money is. It is, however, more or less the only option for any AAA studio, so once Fortnite finally dies out for good it'll still keep them floating very comfortably.

Its 3 months till CS2 reaches its second year and in under that time, the game has remained in a pathetic state that it has left me genuinely fucking fuming at how Valve bastardized the game reminiscent to TF2's Meet-Your-Match.
  • UI is dogshit, taking the logical conclusion from their replacement of the once fine CSGO UI to that soulless Panorama update. Now it feels too "clean" and flashy.
  • Community Browser is still broken and fucked. The movement system also broke any chance of surf ever becoming a thing in CS2.
  • """Preservation""" of CSGO is half-assed. Originally 30GB, now downloading the legacy branch is 80GB. Utterly unacceptable.
  • Shit netcode that it results into constant peeker's advantage even at 40ms or LESS.
  • No region selecting, so you're forced to queue up with retard monkeys in your region and you can't choose which region you want to play.
  • Casual modes are not casual, they are just lesser versions of competitive. No War Games, Retakes or even returning maps of Arms Race/Demolition. (Also no, Danger Zone is garbage and I'm tired of defending a half-assed gamemode that was part of an update that tore the game apart)
  • "Workshop" tools are even more barebones. Just a simple map editor and tools just to add skins to your gun. No custom models, music kits or gamemodes to experiment, just extra slop to the content mill.
  • Optimization or lack thereof. Even those on a goddamn 9070XT are having problems running this game at consistent framerates. It even fails as a F2P game fundamentally because it lacks the ability for it to run on toasters, which is how Danger Zone-era CSGO still flourished despite its flaws and how other F2P games like War Thunder, World of Tanks, TF2 and even fucking DOTA 2 (which also runs on the same fucking engine this game is using) survived for more than a goddamn decade.
  • Movement and Animation System. These systems are such fuckups that even the devs admitted they are trying to rework the entire fucking thing (even more baffingly they used the same shit in Deadlock) yet they willingly shipped it in the """update""" knowing full well the consequences of a system with barely any form of QA testing, which combined with the Peekers Advantage and 64-subtick makes movement feel too fucking sluggish.
  • 64-bit subtick. These subhumans are still feeding us 64-subtick when most modern shooters and comp games are using a far more stable and fair 128-tick. Every single game of CS2 feels like the game is actively hampering your efforts in playing properly because Valve stubbornly refuses to admit 128-tick is superior compared to the trash 64-tick they have been using for 10 fucking years.
  • FACEIT. Fuck this garbage service. Apparently Linux users cannot use this service because of Kernel-level anticheat, yet even in high-level FACEIT, you still have cheaters, mostly Chinkshitters. Why do I have to pay for an extra subscription to use a service on a game I fucking payed for? Why can't the basic features of FACEIT be incorporated into the default game?
  • Cheaters. If Escape From Tarkov has a cheater problem that is encouraged by Battlestate Games themselves, CS2's cheating epidemic is the equivalent of late-stage AIDS, with a developer that refuses to take active action and willing to let the rot fester. It does not have to be kernel-level anticheat but for the love of fucking God, do something, anything resembling combat against the cheaters.
  • Skins. If TF2 has the TF2 Emporium cancer, then CS2 has the entire economy of skins, most of which are held by slot machines and Chink subhumans whose only goal is to get some super expensive skin to be turned as """life savings""". This is further reflected by "content updates" which just involves adding a new case and moving on, and now its a new case AND an update to the Armory, which is just their form of the cosmetic slop updates that they left TF2 to rot in. Not to mention, a large chunk of these skins are fucking dogshit to look at.
  • Gambling. You want little Timmy to play a simple shooter game with competitive elements? How about showing him the wonderful world of case opening where little Timmy can get a super looking skin to sell for real world money? Oh wait, he opened and got a trash skin, no worries you can open as much cases as you want, just give us your credit card please?
  • No old maps. Where the fuck is Cobblestone, Assault, Cache, Lake, Militia and every old legacy map from old CS? All we get are colored abominations that feel so out of place on a game depicting terrorists and counter-terrorism. Speaking of which.
  • Artstyle. They butchered the artstyle from the soulful CSGO where you are playing differing factions of both CTs and Ts from various corners of the world. Now factions don't even fucking exist and all we have are barbified dolls pretending to be CTs and Ts.
  • Offline support. 1.6 and Source had wonderful bot AI that were able to put up a challenge against you if you wanted to play offline. Now bots are braindead target practice that don't even challenge your skills if you are offline, assuming you can even play an offline match.
  • Ranks. If there is one thing Valorant should get praise for, its that when you win or lose, you are shown how far you are from being promoted/demoted. In CS2, only Premier had this but regular competitive still uses the garbage random rankup where you win 5 matches and you still remain at GN3, only to have 1 losing match and immediately you are demoted to GN2. How is this supposed to instill fun to a regular player?
In the same year where Overwatch 2 became known for fumbling the ball for removing OW1 and replacing it with what it essentially a glorified beta-test, CS2 managed to get away from the same fate but only because people constantly see Valve as this gargantuan saviour of gaming, yet we see time and time again of Valve's shit work culture, their constant priority of Steam over their actual games, them getting away with the microtransaction hell that every single fucking company besides them gets lambasted for, and if both TF2 and CS2 is of any consideration, their slow inability to even create, let alone maintain their games. Hell, ask anyone about CS2 and they would never talk about the game itaelf, all they care about is fucking ESports, as if they turned CS into a digital version of niggerball.

Want to know something more embarrassing? Wargaming did this same game engine upgrade with World of Tanks back in 2016. After the failure of the Rubicon update in 2014, they reverted the update back and took a few years to create a new engine from scratch. When they released the 1.0 update, it was smooth sailing as fuck. No bugs, laggy netcode nor cheaters. They even had an optional HD install for beefy computers, all while allowing potato PCs to even run it using the standard settings. The fact that a Belarusian company outdid two American companies in the "upgrading the game's game engine without being a beta-test" corner is beyond embarrassing.

I finally uninstalled this dogshit. Never have I felt angry at a game in a very long time.

Gambling.
I'm convinced at least 70% of the real non-botted "playerbase" are gamblers and trader mains. Skins / cases have overtaken the development side with little pushback, matchmaking takes far longer than it should to place players into matches, and there's been no real consorted effort on a movement to speak out against the state of CS2 despite it's size. It's utterly depressing that it seems like the people that enjoy CS:GO for what it is (was) are a minority.

As long as it continues to remain this way (which it will, the game sucks lmao), CS2 will never reach even a fraction of what it's predecessor once was and will forever remain in the gutter. There really is no other option than to abandon ship entirely at this point if you genuinely love CS:GO as a game; Valve has clearly shown that they're only catering to the majority nigger moneymakers at this stage that could care less about the real game of which some of them rarely play at all (and the compies that only really care that the game is playable at the bare minimum).

...it's truly never been so over CS:GO bros.

CS2 also got away with things just as their other competitors have shit the bed too, i.e. Blizzard putting more and more in-your-face rainbow shit, Ubisoft putting more rainbow shit into Rainbow6 Siege, VALORANT being VALORANT with how rainbow Riot Games is, and EA messed up Battlefield 2042 even further with Secure Boot now being required for games with EA Anti-Cheat, 2042 included.

Never forget Valve's limited partnership with Sweet Baby Inc.

'Member CS:Legacy? The mod alternative to CS;CO that's fully compliant with Valve's requirements for a CS:GO mod (as far as we know)? Well, a Valve employee responded to the team "suggesting that the use of the Counter-Strike IP (intellectual property) might no longer be allowed without a separate, dedicated license."

...nigger.

lol. So Classic Offensive was the fault of the devs, now CS:Legacy is the fault of Valve themselves. If only the main playerbase got their heads out of their asses and stop gambling, they can rally and kick Valve to the curb for their complete bastardization of Counter-Strike (since its inception as a fucking mod for HL1, now it requires a license).

But until the Chinks control half of the fucking game, this will never happen and CS2 will go the way as modern TF2, good gameplay hampered by a shit dev team and a legacy on its way to being enshittified to kingdom come.

While I agree with every point you've made, this one is by faaaaar the most egregious. The fact that Valve allow literal spinbotters to dominate the leaderboards is just baffling.

I still follow the scene, but until VAC gets upgraded to a kernel-level AC and they bring back overwatch the game simply isn't worth playing.

In other CS news, CS:S is having a strange "player" uptick that started July 22 with the playerbase more than double it's norm.

It doesn't seem to correlate with anything making it obvious they're bots, but why the fuck is this happening? It's a $10 paid game with no market. I had already heard beforehand that the game was being botted (it's obvious when you examine the server browser), but I didn't realize it was this bad. Is it Joever for CS:S bros?

Its so over. CS:S Asia shows nothing on the serverlists so pretty fucked.

In other news, Valve, being the retarded nigger babies they are, are planning a bidding system to the armory. Its the World of Tanks Black Market/Diablo 3 Auction House all over again but with skins.

i believe bots are stupid because they were downgraded csgo's never updated console ports (and that didnt change since then)
and on topic of soulless, cs2 doesnt even have golden knife that was used in csgo arms race. i gotta be honest and say i didnt realise that untill i played both modes in both games, though thats just yet another thing to add on a pile of things missing/botchered in cs2

You can tell the new major(?) CS2 update is boring when people are either calling the new skins Valorant rejects, or arguing if LGBT agents should be added in the update's Steam Forum page. : (

The player numbers are still high and will be for years, but this game is startling close to dying. Between Dota, Deadlock and whatever Half-Life stuff is happening right now, Valve is going to be spread so thin CS is going to get dropped like TF2 was.

CS is going to end up like TF2, every season a couple devs come back to the game to add a new case and then fuck off again. TF2 is five years older than CS:GO. TF2 was dropped about seven years ago. It's over.

The update's not just devoid of any meaningful content, but the new case system is a new low for Valve to sink to. A flat 2.50 for a chance to open a cool skin is, while degenerate, a reasonable sell.
These new cases, on the other hand, are pure whale-bait. There's no point in opening them if you aren't prepared to drop hundreds of dollars on a single skin at this point. Even if you get lucky enough to pull a red, cool, now spend 500+ dollars to unlock it or you're shit out of luck and get nothing from it.
It's just the shit cherry on the shit cake Valve calls CS2. No meaningful content additions since launch, nor restoring content they gutted from GO. No Cache, no Cobble, on top of that they got rid of the old (good) pool of community maps and replaced them with total shit. If there isn't anything meaningful by the end of the year, I'm not sure CS2 will ever recover, aside from gambling addicts and no-life players.
