We took Pooka to the vet and he was given an injection of benadryl and one of steroids so he was feeling much better last night, His little footie is about normal size today and he is back to his normal, lazy self.

PS it's his birthday today!

Anyone do scentwork with their dog? I do it to get my big girl to calm down. Mostly just throw treats around and have her sniff the treats I want her to find. This somehow is more exhausting for her than intense exercise.
My dogs like this, though they are on the smaller size and therefore lazy little creatures. My boy likes his snuffle ball and snuffle mat. I think it’s the mental exercise that knocks them out!

She also has those. She's doing find it right now. She just tried to get me to find her treats for her. Lazy bitch.

She's decided the carrots I hid aren't worth the trouble. The cat has taken over find it duty for now.

This is my sweet precious spoiled fucking rotten angel baby who i've had since she was 8 weeks old. Niggers kidnapped her and literally stole her leg so now she hops around getting into trouble and mouthing me off for not giving her butter fast enough.
I hope she learned to be more racist in the future.

Three legs are better then four your cat just ascended the cute scale by one whole leg.

Careful there you're well on your way to "Four legs good, two legs better."

To make my reply somewhat on topic, here is a fuzzy elder god who's wrath I incur on an almost daily basis:

She recently enjoyed a terrible 17th birthday in which humanity and my other cat continued to exist, and she continued to receive adequate care. I consider it exceptional care tbh, we go to the shop every time she changes her mind about what food she likes, multiple times a week, and spend >£100 per month on keeping her healthy and pain free.

I got stuck on YT, watching capybaras tonight and really want to spend my old age ranching them. Not for any practical purpose beyond some light shilling but because they're so frickin cute. With the right person and pack of corgis by my side, I think it could be a dream come true

My number one pal passed away from oral cancer in May. She was my first and only kitty, just a few days from 17. My entire adult like was spent with her. I miss her every single day.

Our other cat is 17 and just got diagnosed with bladder cancer, maybe has a year to live. Shit is brutal man. I'm sorry for your loss.

My parents put their cat down today :(

They had to put their dog down last month.

This year sucks.

I power levelled in another thread about my old dog who has oral cancer. We don’t really know how long we have, probably not too long as we are not treating it aggressively and are just focusing on his quality of life. He’s a great dane cross, almost 12 years old, and we’ve had a great time together, couldn’t ask for better really. But yeah, it’s real hard. I feel for you and the other kiwis here dealing with similar situations.

My favorite ever cat is dying and I hate it. He's 16, so he's had a good long life, but I'm not ready to say goodbye.

He started having heavier breathing two nights ago, and hid some yesterday so I took him to the vet. Now, he's had a lot of vet visits for treatment of stomatitis so he's pretty spicy at the vets. But he cooperated very nicely with an exam and xray.

He's got fluid in his chest, right where cats like to get cancer. They said it's probably days I have left with him, so I decided to put him to sleep yesterday.

Except he got really spicy and they couldn't even shave his leg for the catheter. So I brought him home. He's hid a lot of the day but he came out to demand cuddles and to watch the birds in the front yard. He's obviously not ready to go either, but I know it's just a matter of time. I feel blessed that I was given a chance to really say goodbye, but I hate this limbo. In some ways I wish it was over, but I'm also not ready.

I ran across this picture of him as a baby a few hours ago and haven't been able to stop crying since. I can't believe his life is almost over. I keep thinking of all the things he'll never do again and it breaks my heart. He's had a good long life, he knows he's loved, and has had arthritis for a while now. I'll be glad he's out of pain, but I'll always miss him.

(My floor isn't dirty here, the varnish on the wood is all scuffed up and damaged from really hard use)

Hug your babies. It's always over too soon.

My gorgeous 17 year old baby girl didn't eat her dinner last night, and isn't eating her breakfast. I tried her on two foods last night and one this morning. Of the selection two were different types of her favourite food ever. Not touched. She's been super picky about food recently but been eating as long as you rotate brands. This is different.

She's too old to be taking risks with so if she hasn't eaten today I'll call the vet first thing tomorrow. She hasn't been vomiting and no sign of diarrhea (I dug through her toilet to check, not something I ever imagined doing)

I love her so much and I know she's old but I'm not ready for her to go and I'm so worried. Her kidney markers have been slightly off for a while and she has arthritis, so I've known she was aging but this is abrupt.

Sorry for rambling I'm just sad and scared. Me and this cat have been through so much together.
