A stray cat has shown up at my place. Unfortunately, he picked the wrong house because I'm a poorfag with my own animals to care for. However, a few weeks ago he showed up with major injuries on his face and neck which pulled at my heart strings and I began feeding him to at least help him heal. I knew he may just end up worse but it hurt my heart and our local animal control will only pick him up once he's dead.

At first he was really skittish but he's come around. I posted him on a local group and some neighbors said they've seen him for at least a year and they believe he was released as a kitten. He's not neutered and he's always very hungry, he's also covered in fleas so if he's not a stray, he might as well be. I'm going to try and contact some cat rescues to see if they'd want to help him out before he gets hurt again. I went to a pet pantry and got some free food for him, I'm hoping I can find a way to maybe help him with his flea problem in the mean time (for both of us).

@Totallyunknown : dish soap, or turmeric baths. Both methods suffocate the fleas. You want to make a ring of soap or turmeric around the cat’s neck, so the fleas don’t, well, hehe, flee, to poor kitty’s head because obviously you don’t want to put that completely underwater.

If you use turmeric, it stains. Kitty will sort of turn yellow/orange, but it’s not toxic.

I'm not sure this cat would allow me to bathe him. Our current status is he remains outdoors because I have a male cat of my own (as well as rabbits) so I cannot risk the health / life of my other animals to bring him inside. He stops by once a night around 7-8pm usually, I feed him and he immediately walks off. If I try to follow him, he starts running. But if he is on my porch, he let's me pet him. He did go in heat recently and peed on my bike tent as well as tried to walk into my house (he's never tried this before because my cat is usually sitting within eye range inside my home) so we are building a relationship but I do not think we are having a bath friends yet. I think I would need to get topical medication because hes outside - his neck is really bitten up so even if it could reduce the amount I think would be good for him (and again, me, because I don't want fleas to end up on my animals via transfer by trying to be nice to this cat - though I am very careful to wash my hands and toss clothes in the laundry after we visit)

Again, ideally I can find a rescue to take him in or maybe space will open at our city shelter so my goal is to find him a place to go inside that can provide him the full run of care he likely needs - the city is just overrun with pets. There's a TNR info meeting at a local rec center next month that I might check out in hopes of some local resources.

Thanks for the info though - if my kitty ends up with fleas, I'll try the bath since I'll be able to catch it early and we are better friends.

Olive oil also works the same way, that's how I would treat fleas on my ferret. It was also good for her skin since she had sensitive skin.

My go-to for removing critter smells is unscented Febreze.
Clean the area, spray Febreze, let it dry.
White vinegar works really well too. Especially in laundry. A cat I had took to peeing on my dirty laundry if any other cat had used the litter box even just once since the last time I scooped any of the boxes. Seriously, this cat was so picky and neurotic. I washed my laundry with a big splash of vinegar and that got all the smell out.

Boo is doing really well on the Solinsia. It's his second month and this morning I caught him chasing and playing with my kitten! It's been so long since I last saw him play like that and never with the kitten (we've had him since August). $65/month is a cheap price to pay to give him back the quality of life he was missing out on. I realize how privileged I am to be able to afford it, of course.

Do you think he's a good foster candidate? Maybe if you check around local Facebook foster groups you can find someone who might be willing to take him and get him ready for adoption.

I do not think we are having a bath friends yet
My older cat I've had since 2009, and we still aren't having a bath friends. I don't understand how some people have cats that let them do stuff like that!

Thanks so much for taking care of him and I hope you find somewhere that can help him.

@Accept Only Substitutes I'm so glad the Solensia is helping! It really is amazing the difference it makes.

The dog's bed manners have improved since Sunday. She's starting to understand she is welcome, but only with my permission. Those manners do leave during zoomies. Especially her "Gotta poop, motherfuckers!" zoomies.
Come on, everyone knows you don't have to have manners during zoomies. Zoomies are for zooming, not being polite. We're dogs and cats, not stuffy English butlers.

My kitten dragged a toy on the foot of the bed while I was trying to go to sleep and bounced around on top of me for a good twenty minutes one night. I could have stopped him, but I was too busy giggling.

How true are the orange cat stereotypes? Because I have one, he will be two soon, and he’s caused the most trouble and been the most extra of any animal I’ve had with me (I foster, and have had about 30 in my home, not at the same time though).

He likes to jump on my chest and make biscuits while I use my laptop, and push his face into my face. Even sticks his nose in my mouth if I yawn or open it to talk to him!

Behold, Caesar the Netherland Dwarf bun. This isn't him, but he looks exactly like this. My mother would never let me have a rabbit as a kid cause she hates them. But I was like, now I am old, and I have my own space, I will get a rabbit.
Whether he likes me or not changes by the hour, and he will only zoom if I'm in bed, where he feels the need to jump onto the bed and make sure I know he's there.
So far he's chewed: the door, the floor, my bed, an old plushie sheep, my bedsheets, my journals, and my language books. I have to phrase it as having been 'personalized' otherwise I'd get angry. Even though I know it's my fault for not keeping things out of his way.

I wanted to get one of those massive Papillion/Flemish/Continental Giant breeds but thought it probably wasn't a good idea as a first rabbit. So far I have learned that rabbits climb. I thought they were runners, but Caesar has been on every shelf or elevated space his little feet can reach. I've also learned that holy shit rabbits are smart. I've had loads of guinea-pigs over the years and while I love them, they are dumb as shit compared to rabbits. It makes me feel bad that so many rabbits are still in hutches at the bottom of the garden, or in sheds being mostly ignored.

Anyway Caesar had his vaccines a couple of weeks ago, and in another couple of weeks he will go to be castrated. Then he can have a girlfriend, I figure he needs one since he's started grooming the plushie sheep he chewed and I get the impression he would love some bun company.
I'm very tempted to not get him fixed, and have a litter. But then I would never be able to sell them cause I'd want to know who was buying them, where they were being kept, what they were going to be fed etc. And I don't trust people to bring them back when their kids get bored. Even if you say 'No shame, if you can't keep them I'll take them back' people would rather abandon them in a field than face you and basically say hey we're bored of this pet now, thanks.
