Creationists - Jack Chick, Kent Hovind, etc.

I love vampires and needed to leave this here, especially the brilliant commentary on how much Chick is looney throughout - other than that, I can't really go near this guy without someone else (including myself, albeit badly) making fun of him.

However, how Chick is still relevant and/or still going is anyone's guess. But I know the answer is obvious.

I bet he could make a lot of money by having his tracts sold to hipsters at coffee shops

Should we really give the Tumblrfucks more firepower to piss off normal people with, TBH? Hipsters, maybe, but these guys for example... I don't know - Oh, right...

We're not actually sure if there is a Jack Chick. There are several artists who work on these comics. It might be a shared penname, or Jack Chick might be fucking dead because the man who was "Jack Chick", (again, not sure if it was actually him or one of the people under the penname) would be like fucking 90 something right now.

There have also been some pulled tracts that were not well received, offensive, or the writers have changed their minds on their viewpoint.

I'm starting to think Jack Chick is a collection of bored artists who want to piss people off and made these strips as reactionary satire.

Don't know if this guy counts as a lolcow, but he definitely produces lulz. Like the OP said, he's gotten more and more delusional over time. There was even a quote on his website where someone claimed that the Cult of Cthulhu was an actual organisation. To call him "one of the most repugnant human beings alive" is a huge exaggeration though. He's just a bigot and wrong, nothing more. Also, the Dark Dungeons movie is pretty great.

Jack Chick has some eccentric religious beliefs and I strongly disagree with him on just about everything, but I don't think that makes him a lolcow. Yes, I guess he has views that are amusing but I don't think that makes him a lolcow in the same vein as people who usually fit that bill.

This was one of my concerns with having a lolcow forum - discussion sometimes is framed as "I don't like this person's beliefs, therefore they are a lolcow." This would be interesting discussion in say in an off topic forum but not really a lolcow forum topic. At best it's a person we can lol at but that's not quite the same as a lolcow.

Of course, I'm a private citizen now, so to speak, so my opinion has no official weight.

On topic, I can confirm the Dark Dungeon movie is hilarious. And if you're slow on the uptake, it's clearly satire, though they try to be serious but there's effectual moments where they're like "YEAH, WE'RE SERIOUS ABOUT THIS, WINK WINK, NUDGE NUDGE, STOMP STOMP."

They should totally make a movie based on The Last Generation. I think that's the name of the tract, the one about where it's an Orwellian future, probably pre-apocalyptic where the anti-Christ is ruler and there's a one world religion, legalized homosexuality, etc. and everyone is a Nazi and the little kid rats out his Christian parents. I think it'd be an interesting apocalyptic story if you managed to get rid of the preachy message, it'd be decent.

Also I find it amusing that some tracts are in English except they have black characters instead of white characters.

If we're counting Chick as a lolcow, then he was my first. :heart-full: Summer of '95. It was this tract.

For a few years there, he was pretty much everyone's first lolcow. In the 90s (and possibly earlier), when teenagers made their first nervous ventures out into the larger world, there was always some asshole waiting to give them a Chick Tract. It really helped my generation grow up cynical. If I actually put some effort into it, I could probably sperg all day about how Chick's insanity was an integral part of the 90s/early 00s slacker experience, but nostagia is boring so I'll confine it to this one post.

Back when independent coffee shops were more of a "thing," pretty much every one I ever went to had Chick Tracts around in some capacity, for the amusement of the customers. Hell, I used to frequent a place that was decorated with blown-up copies of Chick cover art.

Of course, that's only relevant if he's a lolcow. If he's not, well, I blame kids these days not knowing their bovine history.

That was one of his compatriots IIRC. William Schnobelin (?) a former Catholic/Wiccan/Satanic High Priest.

Oh that's some nostalgia right there. I used to collect Jack Chick comics as a kid. His workers would hang out in front of my middle school a handful of times a year and hand this shit out. I had no idea he was still active.
