I have had three forays into Crockpotting / Slocking sincei I purchased a $25 crockpot from the Dollar Store nearly 2 weeks ago. I am want for pictures but I can quickly summarize my thrice forays into Crocking/Potting.

First meal went nice. Gallon of rice, 12 meatballs, braindead me also dumped half a jar of presto in there. Sat for 2.45 on High, probably could have pulled it out a bit sooner. Meatballs were nice. Sauce stained the rice, but it was rightly looked.

The second was just rice and meatballs, rice was slightly overcooked. Only a half-gallon and still 12 meatballs.

Third foray was 3 gallons of rice which I made 3 days ago. Managed to undercook the center and overcook the edges. Maybe I should have put less rice in, but anything worth doing is worth overdoing. Moderation is for cowards. That's what my dad always told me. But you know what I've realized as I've gotten older? I'm not made of money and rice doesn't grow on trees. I've never even seen a tree, Ray, and right now I'm feeling like Smokey the Bear.

Once I buy a new phone I'll post pics and videos. If anybody has any good recipes and pro tips, please link and share and if you too have successfully replaced your personality with a Crockpot, post your pot! I'm a 37 year old woman living in the esoteric outskirts of detroit!

I cooked for MANY years in a crockpot and love the hell out of making food in it for dinner after putting all the ingredients in it before work. The recipes I know are mostly low carb but I scoured the internets for years and there's lot of good recipes out there. I prefer stews (no noodles) over most anything in the pot as the noodles tend to get soggy after putting them in the crock pot.

Beef Stew:

Chicken Stew:

Pot roast:

And if you need a "dip" for a party which is basically a meal this is the goto:

I use my crockpot maybe 1-2 times a month, with my most common foods being chili, meatballs/sausage in sauce, pulled pork, or poultry. The last time i used it was to make chicken cacciatore. 1 diced pepper, 1 diced onion, 1 can peeled tomatoes, 2 lbs chicken (thighs or breasts). Toss everything in and season it to your taste, with garlic, oregano, and basil being the most common. 5 hours on low.

No real advice other than throw food in and see what happens. Always add seasoning, and everything will be juicy. Rib meat falls off the bone and chicken breaks down into bones and shredded meat.

Sometimes I like to use my crockpot as a simple rice cooker to make sushi rice bowls. I cook it, dump the rice in a bowl, then add some imitation crab onto it. Then I add some crushed up nori, they sell dried nori snacks at Costco and I believe Trader Joe's as well. Avocado, cucumber, sriracha, green onion, teriyaki sauce as toppings. Yummy.

I have yet to try it with anything but imitation crab, simply because it's cheaper but you can use salmon, shrimp or tuna if you want.

I found a recipe online that's pretty simple. Not exactly the way I learned to make it but it looks better. Here!

I'm figuring out my corckpot myself and have been using it fairly frequently lately since it's summer and too hot to turn on the oven. Everyone is basically right - it's the original set it and forget it kitchen tool and you can basically dump and go but I will say that I do check on it ever so often because crockpots always need to have liquid in them to work the right way. Maybe your rice was weird because the water boiled out too quickly?

Take some rotisserie chicken and strip it off the bones. Put it in a crockpot with some crumbled bacon, a ranch packet, cream cheese, and onions if you're feeling slutty. Super salty but I like it.

Crock pots were created by the hand of God Himself out of angel tears and unicorn dreams to prove that He not only exists, but also loves us and wants to be happy. Also, since I'm not allowed to have a grill or smoker, the crock pot is the best way for me to make barbecue style meats, but the homemade soups and stews are a nice bonus.
