At one point he almost gains one ounce of self-awareness. Almost. Part of the reason he is so deplorable is that he is so egotistical that he doesn't seem to see why he is absolutely hated by everyone else.

Also, she mentions people white knighting Vriska but hating on Chronus and implying its hypocritical. This kind of thing does actually happen (again UCfags are pretty infamous for it), but aren't Vriska white knighters also regarded as fucked up by large chunks of the fandom? Sounds like its a situation where white-knighting either character is wrong.

Any white-knighters are laughed at by anyone outside of their fucked-up little cliques. It's only when they start actually hurting people that it becomes a problem, which is where CAA comes in.

Also, it's kind of hilarious that he is not Danny Zuko friendly yet he calls Cronus a godsend from Heaven. Especially considering the fact that the former is a much better person than the latter, who is probably what Holden/Marjan Siklic would be if he was a Homestuck chracter. Hell, there's kind of a reason why I chose my avatar as Cronus wearing a fedora and my tag being "Voluntary Incel". Cronus reminds me of the fucking incel community for fuck's sake, and he kind of especially reminds me of Marjan Siklic/Holden.

Though judging by this guy's behaviour it's not so much that they're trying to defend Cronus's honour, but that they see this gross, sexually-abusive asshole as a kindred spirit and try to make excuses for him because oops, being like that doesn't tend to make people like you.
...Though actually, I might be wrong. Clearly we're all reading Homestuck wrong and that Cronus is a nice, sweet individual that would never hurt anyone.

Yeah, I'll admit I tend to like and relate to characters that aren't exactly on the moral highground and gotten shat on by the fandom because of this (hell I've gotten death wishes before). Well before Homestuck was ever a thing I might add. However the fandom (UC Gundam) is kind of notorious for getting their panties in a bunch over anyone who has an opinion that differs from the norm, plus I try to at least mention that I realize these characters (and thus myself) are extremely flawed and kind of worst case scenarios if what I couldve become. I also try to poke fun at the characters and myself often, because let's face it animu characters aren't that serious of business.

Yeah the thing that happens in this case seems to be some form of the following.

1. Someone sees a lot of themselves for some reason in a character that is, purposely or otherwise, written in an unpleasant and uncomfortable manner or who is generally disliked by the rest of the cast for being a giant douche.

2. Rather than examine what it is they relate to about this character in particular and wonder if perhaps there are parts of their personality they could stand to improve, they shut down and go into extreme denial mode. They have things in common with this character, since they are not a bad person neither is this character.

3. All criticisms of this character therefore become personal attacks levied against this person. Example: Calling Cronus a rapist is equivalent to calling CAA a rapist. CAA is not (or at least does not think of themselves as) a rapist and thus cronus cannot be (or share traits with) a rapist.

What should happen here is that this person goes "Cronus is ostracized and criticized by his friends for being a creepy douche and as a result cannot form healthy relationships. If I relate to this then maybe I should think hard about whether or not I am being a creepy douche." Instead what happens is "Cronus can't get laid and I can't get laid and I agree that his friends are being totally mean and unfair about this and so is the fandom."
