Crusader Kings II is a game made by Paradox Interactive, otherwise known for Europa Universalis, Stellaris, Victoria 2, and making gamers into horrible, horrible people.

At any rate, it's a very in depth medieval history simulator- specifically, if the name didn't let you know, the 800s-1500s. A big focus of this game is the titular crusades. I've learned all I know about feudal Europe from this game, which is kind of sad in a way. If this game has taught me anything, it's not to be moral. Cheat, lie, and kill whenever you can. The main objective, after all, can become deceptively difficult.

The only goal of the game is to continue your dynasty, not losing your titles to heirs not within it.

For example, I, Queen Maior the Pious of Navarra (Hint: Spain) fought a long war against my neighbors to let my mother claim my kingdom. I then seduced enough people in her court to successfully assassinate her, inheriting the title quicker than I would have otherwise.

You risk a little info overload with it, but luckily there's tutorials- not the ingame one, though. It's trash, so you should watch some Youtube videos.

Anyways, CK2 is hella rad and RIP to my bastard inbred son, the lustful dwarf hunchback Pope.
 
Mid to late game in CK2 can get crazy. I was playing a stock game as the Irish, I took over the British Isles (formed the Britannian Empire) and at one point had a Frenchman who was partially descended from Muhammad as my heir.

The history can get super wacky. The AI makes absolutely incomprehensible marriage decisions sometimes. I once saw Jerusalem ruled by a dynasty of Aztec Invader descended Jains.

Anyone play a game where Catholicism is pretty much btfo early game? Im king of catholic Ireland in 1000 or so and all of Europe is pretty much Sunni. Makes a bloke consider converting.

It happens. Especially the earlier you play, where there's more pagans and more invasions to weaken moral authority. The pope always exists though, so you'll continue to see pointless crusades for Rome that he has no chance of winning.

Yeah the papacy is basically the only county still completely catholic. Brittania converted to cathar so catholism ia a herasy now. No more crusades.
 
I see there isn't much discussion here but I recently got CK2 and all the DLC and I've fallen in love with this game. I started out as Murchad of Mumu and went through that a few times until I'd managed to conquer Ireland and England, but now my true love is playing as Norse Zunist Merchant Republics, particularly in Venice which has an insanely profitable trade route. Norse because it allows raiding, Zunist because Sun God fuck yeah and Merchant Republic to get THAT SKRILLUH

Is it a lot like CK2? I've been considering trying out CK3 but I've heard CK2 is currently better due to all the DLC content.

I haven't played CK3 but I have a few friends that do. Most of them said it was more of the same in a shinier package with less stuff. But I am sure over time Paradox will charge you for a ton of bells and whistles like they do.

Like I said, I'm stuck with Europa Universalis IV. I've bought so much of the DLC for that over the years that I'm not going to branch out into any of their other games.

I'm more of the piratey type of gamer when the option is available, maybe I'll find a decent repack of EUIV and try it out. If it's anything like CK2 I'll probably love it.

Yeah that's how I decided to buy EUIV and most of my games I guess. I really like demos. So I pirate games and if I like it, I buy it at a high price out of respect for the developers.

Anyway, EUIV is different than CK in that you're dealing more with other nations rather than your family line and the scope is generally much larger. If it helps, when you're done with CKII you can import your nation into EUIV. And once you're in that game you are basically trying to conquer your region and become a great power. If you are really autistic smart you can remove some of the game's restrictions in the ini configuration file and make world domination a thing. Though admittedly that's pretty fucking hard to do and will almost always end in failure, just like in real life!

The official importer doesn't actually work. Just use one from a third party.
 
I'm interesed for a ATLA mod for this game.
I'm sure it's existed because i saw many screenshots when i traveled to /v/ & /co/ years ago.
Anyone had a url?
