I think we're dealing with a base difference in linguistic choice here. You can be proud of your grandfather for that shit, 100%, and it can be an inspiration to better yourself.

I'll consider myself a great man if I go to the grave having accomplished half the shit my veteran grandparents did. I'm proud that they were the men they were. Doesn't mean I think it makes me inherently superior in any way, or that their accomplishments were mine. It's a standard to try to live up to.

Taking pride in ethnic or cultural birthright (connected but different things), is not just claiming responsibility of achievement, it is an ideal, something to live up to.

Since people will fight for and defend tradition based on that pride, to guard cultural habits and values, it must be destroyed and you constantly get the meme drilled into your head that this kind of pride can only ever be the mark of a loser. As often with propaganda, the reverse is true. You can be succesful in everything in your personal life, yet the groups and countries you belong to continually lose influence, control and in the long multi-generational run, everything.

Did you emerge fully formed from the ether? Do you not have ancestors? Are you not part of a culture, race, etc.?

I'm a pretty accomplished guy, but I'm also very proud of my culture(s) (Sicilian, Polish, American, Western in general) because I'm a product of who came before me. Those who come after me will be a product of me. It gives me an additional sense of purpose and gravity I wouldn't have if I was some deracinated faggot who only cared about muh fancy dentist job. My self-worth isn't exclusively based on my race, of course.

@Marco Fucko , what culture do you come from? Unless you're a Gypsy, Abbo, or some other mud race, I bet you have stuff your ancestors did to be proud of. Why deprive yourself of that?

The biggest issue with nationalism is that it leads to alot of bad policies. It can be good but it generally leads issues being silenced to save face and business people screwing people over.

Governments prop up local corporations and they turn around and screw over the citizens. The Olympics come into town and suddenly all of the activists are jailed and walls are built around the slums. "Our culture is better so we should accept this"

This pride generally leads to bad history and policies. The shittiest places tend to hype up racial and cultural pride the most.
