Ah shit I remember those, I was a little kid but I recall when they shifted to those cartridge things with the PII and celeron, then everybody who bought the first PIIIs got fucked when intel went like "lol now heres a new improved version but its back to sockets!" so your new PC was basically shit now, back when even a cheap one was $1500 in 90s dollars, so you couldnt upgrade unless you used one of those cheap chink converters like the ones in your pic that barely worked at all
J'accuse! The 440BX was the best Intel chipset I ever had, the C300A made a powerful(too powerful...) sub-$1000 computer, the slotket converter worked marvelously and it supported the fantastic Coppermine Pentium 3.
