They're used in certain Chinese dishes, but given what else the Chinese are known to eat I'm not sure if I'd count that as a ringing endorsement.

They're fairly easy to tell apart when you know what to look for. Jelly fungus has a "soft and squishy" look to it. The individual parts are very large and wrinkly:

Slime mold, on the other hand, has more of a "bumpy" look to it. The individual parts are very small and smooth:

Personally, there's something about slime mold that gives me much more of an instinctual revulsion, an "eek! I wouldn't want to touch that" feeling in my gut.

Nah, for the most part it's more "it'll give
ou an upset tummy" dangerous. Well, except for the ones that are take-over-your-nervous-system-and-kill-you dangerous. In general it's not good for you though.

That said, the aptly-named "dog vomit slime mold" is even supposedly eaten in some parts of rural Mexico, where it is eaten uncooked as "caca de luna".

Slime molds are quite fascinating, especially given how some cycle through very very different stages. John Bonners slime mold movies are very impressive
.
And of course physarum polycephalum has to be mentioned when you mention slime molds, which is capable of solving shortest path problems in mazes among other things, which always reminded me a bit of swarm optimization and autonomous agents, in a way.

I was NOT ready for the second one.
Even though I unfortunately had seen it before.

Yep the art is amazing, it’s a goldmine for cursed images:

One of my personal fav spreads. Kentaro Miuras ability to draw incredible monsters is almost unparalleled.
I have a set of ridiculously high-res scans of the whole manga, like 5000x7000+, if you're interested. You can really appreciate these monster illustrations in detail.

My understanding is they're the leaked internal files from the French publisher, which I can kinda believe because they're textless aside from chapter titles in French, but I suspect there's some specialized upscaling involved.
