If you really want freaky look up the documentary about the boy with two heads. It's a parasitic twin head attached to the living child's head. It blinked, drooled when the other child was given food, etc.

There was a really good episode of the X-Files about one that DID have sentiance, kinda fucked me up as a kid seeing it.

It happens in the Animal world fairly regularly, according to the Mrs it's called Syncopathic stimulation it happens more in Pig's and Cows but there is enough sensation given to the parasitic twin by the body of the functional twin and it causes physiological responses to stimulation.

While creepy it's not "Alive" as in it's it's own living entity they have enough of a nervous system to trigger other things that run on automatic, so while the Brain is the CEO it's the sort to let departmental heads run the day to day stuff - Really dumbed down explanation I was given.
