That entire couch is a clusterfuck. I mean, I know most normal people don't go to great lengths to make sure every accessory matches every piece of furniture, but the busy flower print on the sofa + that blue and white blanket + that quilted patchwork pillow + the stack of other pillows at the opposite end makes me cringe.

I think my grandfather had one of those. It's a remote control holder and doll with two faces so you could twist the head around to happy when your team's winning to angry when they're losing. Seems to be a completely random gift for somebody with zero interest in sports - maybe a Goodwill find?

My theories are that it's either a gift for Bob that just got in the bike picture or that it was bought for Chris as an autistic tool. Like they told him, "Here. When you're feeling frustrated or unhappy turn the mad face out so we can see it and know you're having a hard time."

Really? Eh, I dunno, for me I think they're just about even. I just read your suggestion that Bob's genes might've countered the worst of the ugly Weston genes and I just took one look at Chris' latest selfies and my immediate thought was "Holy shit, he could've been even uglier?!"

I actually think his aunt might have looked better than Chris, but that might be because the picture with his aunt isn't a close up of her face like his selfie. Of course, Chris' lifestyle is in turn countering whatever benefits he got from Bob's genes if at 31 Chris looks nearly as bad as his aunt (I still think he looks worse!), who looked to be in her 60s (?) at the time.

I think "coping" is something offered to teens with some developmental issues, to help them build the social skills that their peers are developing naturally. In essence, it's the help that Chris thinks he needed, and actually received, but is ignorant of it because he didn't pay attention.

That's actually a legit photography thing. The project appears to be a bunch of B&W film photos that were probably hand-developed and hand-printed in a photography class at Manchester. A "test strip" is when you make a print by exposing a piece of photo paper for different lengths of time, in order to get a ballpark estimate of what the correct exposure time should be. Usually it's just a small strip or scrap, because KODAK PAPER IS EXPENSIVE.
