Was it actually Borb who sorted it all out and gave Chris credit for it? I don't know if this was before or after she came out to him but even if he thought he still thought she was a sweetheart "candidate"*, it's a surprising amount of effort (for someone who wasn't kidnapped).

Chris might have not actually brought that gamecube. In 2005 many hotels put gamecubes in the rooms and you had to pay to borrow games for them. But since he brought his stupid pixel blocks I wouldn't put it past him to bring a gamecube instead of a portable console.

Because Chris doesn't get out a lot, and he leaves town even less often. So staying in a hotel must have been an exicting new step in his life, perhaps it was a small step towards adulthood. But then his parents told him never to leave the house again because he simply cannot reach emotional maturity or have any sort of independence.
