I wonder if this pic was pre or post graduation ceremony? All the girls are dressed in white so it has to be from graduation and not that "prom".

Oh! I think I finally figured out what those "prom" pics were originally from: probably graduation rehearsal the day before. Although my high school was too big to do such a thing, when I graduated from community college, we had a cookout before rehearsal.

He definitely hadn't been crying before the picture, so it's some pre-graduation ceremony or rehearsal (at my high school we had exactly one rehearsal, but it was seven or eight hours before the start of the ceremony). At that time he was probably thinking "OK, I didn't get an award NOW but when they call my name they're going to talk about how great I am at English and Spanish and especially Art and give me special awards for being ME, Christian Weston Chandler, Autistic Hero of the high school! The dance party could be a "project graduation" dance that high schools love to do in order to keep the student parties, with possible underage drinking, to a minimum.
