Cyberpunk 2077 Grieving Thread

Soooo regardless of the games quality and the money it makes it will only be considered not a flop if its still popular in 7-8 years? That's a low bar to pass.
Lots of games backed by big studios turn a profit; the real standard for success as far as I'm concerned is whether or not they have a lasting cultural impact. Will this game continue to generate interest and excitement long after it's released and the marketing campaign over, or will it instead swiftly fall into obscurity once the hype dies down? That's the question for me.

My reason for feeling cynical is the fact that I haven't seen or heard anything about the gameplay so far which has especially impressed me. The various trailers which have been released have relied heavily upon cutscenes and a celebrity cameo in the form of Keanu Reeves, and the gameplay footage which does feature looks pretty standard to me. The character customization options do sound interesting, but we're told that the game won't feature a 3rd person perspective, and the multiplayer feature has been delayed by as much as a year. On top of all that, there's also the controversial question about how much will be available without microtransactions.

I hope I'm wrong, but I think I have good reason to keep my expectations low.

To be fair it sounds like they're/where still screwing with the gameplay, I'd guess the ads don't show much since it wasn't really in a finalized state yet.

3rd person only people are gay.

Here's Skillup's gameplay impressions after five hours

Big take aways

1 - Hacking isn't fun and is extremely tedious (may change upon release)
2 - Cars handle pretty well and driving feels good
3 - Gunplay is good but has extremely aggressive auto aim (Feature can be disabled)
4 - Melee combat is bad and janky but CDPR says they're working on it
5 - AI is generally good but they become braindead when you're sneaking and you can be crouched right in front of them without being seen
6 - Those intro segments (Noman, Street, Corpo ) last only about fifteen minutes and then you're thrust into the main storyline
7 - Your car is kinda like Roach from TW3 in that you can "summon" it and it appears out of nowhere
8 - Most of the stuff we saw in V's apartment from the trailers like the wardrobe feature was cut from the game
9 - Performance is really good and generally stays at 60 fps or higher at least on PC
10 - This is a really fucking good looking game graphically

Visually, it does look fantastic. Why don't they recycle what they have into a semi-interactive movie instead? Remove all of that shooting, melee and driving nonsense, just cut all gameplay except the dialogue choices. I would buy that 100%.
You mean like a telltale game?

You know, that company that went under?

SkillUp is consistently good in his impressions and reviews but this video is months old so who knows what changed by now.
Also, round this time some people were saying (form their impressions) that driving was trash, meanwhile he claims its good.
Im wondering if the autoaim is some sort of a balancing measure.

IIRC they played a consol version and are talking about aim assist (something I'm told plebs use)

Audience reaction, despite what it might seem like at times*, plays a big part. Some games can be called a Pyrrhic sales success, it turned a good profit, sold 3-4 million copies, people hate it and even if the numbers look good the earth is salted and cursed, people would not buy it again and a sequel even if it's good won't happen.

DmC by Ninja Theory might be game like that, it sold well, it sold better than other Devil May Cry games, but people never stopped complaining about it or ridiculing nu-Dante.

*Starwars Battlefront by DICE is a weird one, I think it was the kind of game that got a sequel because it was already in production and they had sunk a lot of money into it. (plus it's Star Wars!)
But in three years there's been no sequel or even talk about one, maybe they're letting it cool off. For all the shit EA gets at least they're not fucking Activision, Activision would have had six Battlefronts out by now.

honesty from the looks of it driving model is more "loose" and physics based than i expected, vehicle damage looked pretty nice too.

4x4s, bikes, and microcars, including the electric cheese wedge CitiCar? I'm 100% on board.

This. CDPR have made a rod for their own backs by riding the hype train for so long. I'll be honest, I really am looking forward to it. But it can't live up to the impossible hype generated for it. And because of this it will be the WORST GAME EVER.
As I said in the ResetEra thread, there are groups of people who want this game to fail. ResetEra has been mentioned, but game journalists mad that CDPR didn't bend the knee as much as they wanted, and are side stepping old media in favour of YouTubers and talking to fans directly.

Old school PC game fanboys will want it to burn to protect Deus Ex, and of course you have the cynics and hipsters who have put their reputation on the line shit talking this game that need to be "proven right".

I just dipped into the REEEEEEEEEsetera thread. They're going to stunningly and bravely refuse to cover it, I'm guessing, the way The Mary Sue stunningly and bravely stopped covering Game of Thrones after Theon was forced to watch Ramsey raping Sansa.

How heavy on the woke stuff will this game be. The good thing about the Witcher was it focussed on strong characters with a lot of depth opposed to characters throwing in to meet some diversity quota

Cyberpunk is inherently unwoke, so I suspect not much outside of the gender bender character creation shit.

I stole this from /vrpg/, seems legit but who knows

there was a polish liverstream showcasing localization, same footage as before
a few interesting tidbits from the interview with writers:

>polish version has over 250 voice actors, we can assume most other versions will have equal or less
>mike pondsmith will make an appearance in the game, at least his voice, no details
>the game was originally written in polish, then translated to english, and from that version translated to other languages, PL>ENG>OTHER
>writers consider the polish version to be the "original" one just like with Witcher 3
>localization is in the form of an adaptation and not just translation, meaning characters will sound and feel a bit different depending on the language, they wont phrase everything in the same way, so on
>...so the game is going to have a slightly different character influenced by its language, they talked specifically about how polish is a bit harsher and more curse-heavy when compared to english
>V voice actor spoke about how V will change as the story progressed, comparing it to growing up
>signs and other environmental text wont be translated, and isnt predominately in english anyway - they intend to portray NC as a truly multicultural society

If you're the type of sped that spergs out over a female character being in a position of power then I'm sure you'll find plenty to tard-rage about but beyond that I don't see the game being particularly woke. Unlike, say, Bloodlines 2, which I could very easily see having NPCs that randomly stop to rant about pronouns and systemic racism.

Depends on your definition of woke.

Neon hair, anti-capitalism, body modification, political corruption, and anti-establishment are part of cyberpunk in general. It's fair to say that stuff will be in.

But the game's universe is unwoke, going so far as to say diversity and feminism are part of the downfall of culture. States rights leading to America being fractured into self contained nations. Night City as a metropolitan city full of all races, colours, and creeds is likely to be in, but we've seen that aspect of the game is hated by the woke, objecting to a gang called VooDoo, a middle eastern taxi driver, an exploitative in-universe ad etc. ResetEra recently had a huge spergout over a General Lee easter egg, calling it "a racist car".

We won't know if sexy women have been completely cut from the game. Same goes for the seedier side of things like sex and prostitution. Drink and drugs are in, so I don't see it wouldn't be, but V has been slowly getting more unattractive over time.
