Daily Drawing Thread - Try to post at least once a day and see how long you can go.

Day 20

I'm blatantly ripping off paying homage to a pair of scenes in the second to last episode of Revolutionary Girl Utena. I'd actually like some feedback on how to improve digital comics. I'd really like to imitate that style of inked manga as close as I can without dropping money on a proper workstation and (more) pens. Gives me the opportunity to color my work later down the road.

I re-skimmed the thread so forgive me if you said, but what are you currently using?

You said you needed help with improving digital comics so, software. :)
Ah, okay. I use a definitely not cracked version of Photoshop CC 2020. I got a couple custom brushes loaded into my software, but no plugins. It's pretty barebones since I began using it as my software of choice in 2018.

Hope that helps.

First, I think there are very few of us who have not sailed the high seas in pursuit of art, so welcome to the crew! I moved on to Clip Studio, so my advice will be very general.

You might consider GIMP if you haven't tried it yet. It's free and it's made specifically to do art. Pretty sure people make brushes for it also for free. It can also do basic vector graphics like Adobe Illustrator does, which is great for panels, speech and thought bubbles, and sound effects. Have you ever done vector work?

Also, there's so many tutorials out there, I don't know what you've seen or not seen! Let's see if I can keep it basic:

-It's perfectly fine to draw traditionally and do digital cleanups and color.

- Make yourself some page templates with panels already in place. Obviously you can print them out if you want to thumbnail or draw traditional.

- Learn to make effects that you can drop in, like speed lines (this is where vectors come in handy, but you can still do it without. It's just a huge pain).

- Use layers and masks if you don't already.

- Learn about how to place type in word balloons. Many people just jam them in any old way.

I'll stop shitting up the thread now, but if you or anyone has more questions I can try to answer them here, in dms, or on a profile. I did a web comic for many moons (hasn't everybody? ) and one of the things I learned was that there is no "right" way, just more efficient ways.

Now I feel dumb for paying for that shit and only using procreate for drawing anyway.

On Day #19 I started a sketch I might develop later on. Basically I think triggering wokies is fun now and I get the best ideas when I think it will make someone else mad (or flatter them into an overinflated ego). I would be surprised if you could actually guess who it‘s supposed to be, though Captain Rittenhouse And It‘s not political commentary, I just have certain thoughts about the wokie response to his case and their outrage is delicious

I actually moved to Photoshop from Gimp, but I heard Gimp 2.10 is on par with CC apps. Too bad I already went through the trouble of cracking my free trials, lmao

I really do appreciate the advice all the same.

Day twelve: more half baked bullshit because of a long day.

Now, rate me optimistic or call me a faggot, but, I'm really happy that such a wholesome thread seems to be thriving and I really enjoy seeing people popping up; it inspires me to try to keep up, regardless of circumstances. Kudos to you, kiwis.

EDIT: any suggestions regarding what I should draw next week?

Day 20!! This will be the last day of this challenge for me because I'll be switching to both Inktober and our KFtober. I might start back up again in November if I have the time still.
For my last drawing I picked a Dobson theme as he always comes to mind in Inktober season!
