Why do I get the feeling that this guy is a binge and a divorce away from trooning out?
I dunno, troons usually troon out because they need attention and they have low self-esteem. Harmon already has plenty of attention, more than e-celebs at least, and his self-esteem issues are more of a ploy for pity than anything else. He's probably too self-involved for trooning out.

I could see him becoming "non-binary uwu" tbh

Rick and Morty could easily go the way of the Simpsons, in that it's assumed pop culture juggernaut status in a very quick amount of time and will rapidly run out of ideas before losing its original writers to be replaced by hacks who barely manage to capture the tone and voice but lose the original spirit. Adult Swim will not let this go, as it is too fat of a cash cow. Once Dan is fired for his many indiscretions and liabilities and Justin gets bored and moves on to something else, they'll just keep throwing animators and on the clock writers at it and beat that horse until its a paste. Why wouldn't they? Their fans are all as die-hard as they are exceptional.

Yeah, plus Dan Harmon isn't the core of the show by any means, he's literally just there to wrangle Justin Roiland if any of the behind the scenes stuff is an indicator. And Roiland is a comedic genius who works really well in small doses, House of Cosby's was goddamed brilliant for its 5 episodes and the guy has an Andy Kaufman streak to him where he likes to titillate and frustrate the audience, so in theory if they just have him doing his work in shorter bursts throughout the year, it could be a functional series for awhile, but probably never on the same quality level it was on for the 1st and 2nd seasons just due to the network putting more and more money in to it creating a sunk cost problem where they never come to terms with the fact that it peaked and isn't the viewership generator that it once was because the brand recognition is so high. Which, like you said, SImpsons

Remember how Adventure Time burst out of the gate and had such mass appeal that young adults were watching it? It then faded far into obscurity that I never heard anything about it again until its finale with a big lesbian kiss.

That's what I expect will be the future for Rick and Morty.

Is that the latest one, or the one he had with Erin? I heard that new one was going strong and they have some sort of daddy/daughter thing going, but I can't remember where I read that. I choose to believe it anyway.

That marriage to Erin was very strange in retrospect. I'm sure it was mentioned here before but they seemed like a great couple, or as great as he is capable of having with his dream redhead. She helped publish a book of his old writings, went on tour with him, was a member of his show for a long time (years?) then they get married and are divorced after what seemed like 3 months. After she went on an Ireland honeymoon without him. Maybe he addressed it on the show but it's all just so fucking weird.
While admittedly I’ve never been an active follower of Harmon’s podcasts, the digging I’ve have done gives me the impression that the writing was on the walls for their relationship being doomed even before they married, and the people most shocked memory-holed most of the red flags.

First there was that incident on his podcast where he tells an entire audience of fans about the time he screamed at her and called her a cunt until she cried because... she was tired and the tour bus couldn’t leave without Dan(?), he then continues this story by telling Erin in front of this audience that if she ever considers breaking up with him he’d kill himself - Abusive Boyfriend 101 shit - and later in his documentary admits that this isn’t the first time he’s pulled something like that and that behind closed doors he’s much worse, then very soon after that he announces he’s engaged (which seems like either an attempt to fix their relationship or another ploy to control Erin further), but then immediately after the wedding Erin leaves for Ireland (whether this was a trip she had planned prior to the wedding or something spontaneous I’m not certain of), Dan evidentially began to resent her as fan comments on older podcasts indicate Dan insinuated that he suspected Erin was cheating on him, which it turns out may have been projection considering Dan hooked up with his current girlfriend almost immediately after the divorce and Erin gave a vague statement saying that said woman was part of the reason she filed for divorce. Hell, people even noted that when Erin was brought on to his podcasts following the divorce it seemed like she didn’t want to be there but Dan kept pushing her into it.

And while all this was going on Harmon was using his various projects to vent about his marriage problems - hence where R&M episodes like the hive mind and the alien marriage counselors came from.

Though from what I understand Harmon’s latest fiancé appears on his podcasts now, painfully unfunny comedy bits and all. Considering his previous behavior I wonder if we’ll see another public domestic dispute between them sometime in the future.

Implying this hasn’t happened already

Okay, I like Rick and Morty, but even I know this thing is going to crash and burn hard at some point.

Why? Because I know Dan Harmon and I know he's not going to be able to keep a good thing going. When I heard they had gotten approved for as many episodes as they did, I immediately laughed. Yeah, sure guys, that'll happen.

Anything with Dan Harmon involved usually starts pretty well then turns to shit because he's such a lazy fucker and bails out before finishing or shoots his load too early. You can tell season 3 of Community was good but getting a little stale. Season 4 was absolutely terrible and just overall really hard to watch and felt cringy all around. I think any future contracts with him should be 2 seasons, maybe 3 tops because he's proven he can't do anything for more than a few years before fucking it all up.

I still find it super galling that Rick and Morty is treated as the best show ever on Adult Swim, while shows like Venture Brothers gets shitted on, can't get reruns aired unless it's near time for a new batch of episodes every couple of years, and is treated as a red headed stepchild in spite of being the superior show.

Granted, it being ignored is a trade-off for the show remaining pure and untainted by the toxic elements out there that hijacked Rick and Morty, but it's still maddening that R&M is getting rerun into oblivion, has a spin-off comic (and it having spin-offs of it's own; fuck even Sleepy Gary got his own one-shot comic) and merchandise out the asshole, while Venture Brothers can only get a bunch of Mego Dolls that were blink and miss releases and is a non-entity at the network.

Can you imagine him trying to deal with children throwing tantrums or a teenager talking back to him?

I can.

Harmon would be a monster father, physically and emotionally abusive and the type who would make the kid a neurotic mess as he would have to walk on eggshells avoiding his father's wrath. Think Joan Crawford, except more violent.

I feel happy for any woman who wants get with this hunk of a man! I mean look at that round belly! Rubbing on it would bring good luck! Why do you think it's my profile pic? Man, I wanna slap that belly with FORCE!

Harmon was attractive once (pre-Community).

But he's nowadays purely Kissinger Syndrome attractive: women go for him because he has power and influence that can give them fame, money, and power and that they'll deal with a fat, greying, bearded in an unattractive way fat slob to get it, because the power he wields is what is attractive to him, not the man himself.

Does he still have a job or some occupation since season 4 of R&M is in development hell?
From what I understand Harmon gets a lot of additional revenue through fans paying money to listen to his podcasts live, and has some sort of arrangement where a company he owns handles the merchandising for R&M that gives him additional cuts - I’d have to look it up to get the exact details - which incidentally if you’ve ever wondered why R&M has merch for fucking everything from shirts to melon ballers that’s partly the reason why.

TV writers also work in contracts, so unless Harmon proves to be too difficult even for Adult Swim to tolerate or commits some major fuckup he’s likely going to be paid. But either way considering how he has a habit of humble-bragging about his wealth I doubt he’d be hurting for cash even if he was dropped from R&M’s creative team tomorrow, and the money he gets from it is secondary to being able to use the characters as his self-inserts.

So he's like if John K was marginally more functional at actually producing shit, and much more functional at squeezing every last shekel out of anything he actually does produce, while still being a complete piece of shit.

Rick and Morty: Season 4 is due out in November. I'm hoping Rick will go back to being an actual character again and not the irritating Dan Harmon self-insert he felt like in most of Season 3. However, it seems more likely it's going to get worse.

I just want less DEEP AND MEANINGFUL FAMILY DRAMA and more portal guns
