Needless to say, I agree with Hoover. When it comes to simply doing something morally upright regardless what another person has an ideological belief on, it should be done simply because it's right thing to do, ideology be damned.
Dan Olson was on the other side of the argument I was on concerning GamerGate awhile back, but even if he was on my side, his remaining silent about someone who hurt children because of ideology would still make him a stench in my nostrils, because unless you are devoid of any sort of morality, children should be defended from harm and their abusers should be punished for their crimes as a basic fact of decency.

When you think back to the various Lolcows on both sides of the Autism Holy War, you notice a very different paradigm emerge with the malingering shits each side attracted. It pretty much perfectly encapsulates both sides, too, so it's worth noting.
Think of the cows that emerged on GG's side of the aisle: Mike Cernovich, Ethan Ralph, Vordrak, Homer, Lord Balderdash, and so on, and you notice that, for the most part, once the fact that they were profiteering assholes (Cernovich), complete mental-cases (Vordy), or over-the-top fucking spergs (Balderdash), GG supporters, as a whole, publicly condemned their asses. GG supporters were equally-quick to report people posting under the hashtag while using it to harass. They
aggressively self-policed. Similarly, when the FBI expressed an interest in investigating GG, the response, from supporters, was basically welcoming the scrutiny.
To contrast, look at how many times - that we even
know about - that various GG opponents turned out to be sex offenders and/or had their associates cover for them. CON's best-known client was self-admitted pedophile Sarah Nyberg, Rob Marmolejo sexually harassed at leas 20 women while
working for CON, Devin "Critics of Quinn are worse than ISIS" Faraci turned out to be a sexual harasser, Sunil Patel turned out to have manipulated women to have sex with them, Matt "Gamergate is a bunch of future Rapists" Hickey turned out to have raped three women (and was convicted), Matt #MyersTwitter Myers turned out to have sexually harassed someone, Laurelai got involved, and.... Honestly if I keep going I'm going to be here all night, but the point is, any of them facing actual attempts to drum them from Anti-GG were rare. If anything the reverse was true, and they doubled down rather than let that evil Gilbertgottfried have even the slightest hint of public support.
