Dan Schneider - sick fuck, might be much worse than Weinstein

Saw the first two episodes of the documentary. So far it's only old cast members bitching. Brian Peck and some other guy being pedos. I'll watch the other two episodes tonight.
A lot of "I feel" and "I think" statements regarding the environment at Nickelodeon in the first two episodes. Do they ever mention the Jamie Lynn Spears situation? It's fucked up to find out that so many people wrote letters of support for Brian Peck.
The plot twist nobody wanted: Dans Schneider was literally the only Nickelodeon exec who was able to halfway restrain his unholy lust for kid ass while all his colleagues were diddling everything that moved and letting him take the heat for it
No wonder he made all those "awkward situations" in his shows. The writer's barely disguised fetish indeed.

Just finished the series and have very mixed feelings on it. The show really didn't need the parts with the women bitching about poor pay and "white males". That type of shit makes a lot of people immediately tune out and discount things. I also feel like like some of the claims about the suggestive material was way overblown, like the booger being cum and the nose on the super hero suit looking like a dick. The schizo part of my brain thinks it may have been a deliberate attempt to gaslight because its hard to tell how many powerful people are actually involved with this sick shit.

The entire thing is very subversive and subtly manipulative. There are so many angles they could have taken that they just ignored regarding Schneider. They never mentioned the foot fetish twitter stuff. They never mentioned those weird Victoria Justice videos. They never mentioned the blog that started the whole Dan the Man thing on the internet in the first place. It really felt half assed and like it was almost running coverage or Schneider. Like we'll admit to this, but we're going to keep the more sinister stuff hidden and just pretend that he was just misogynistic and a little creepy.

The Drake episode was tough to watch. Not only for the obvious reasons, but then getting to the end of the episode and seeing so many people from my childhood standing up for and defending a child rapist. That's going to taint X-Men and Boy Meets World forever for me.

I saw the first two episodes and had the same thoughts. They had some interesting content, but it was lacking in a lot of areas. It kind of reminded of Change The Channel where they really added on a bunch of nonsense or made mountains out of molehills to add to the punches they were trying to throw. The one black kid whining about having to portray a drug dealer parody and the shade they used being named as "charcoal" really had me rolling my eyes.

One of the things I have come to realize about Schneider is that he while he is a creep and that he injected a lot of perversion into his work, it doesn't seem like he every actually did sexually abuse any kids. His abuse was more of him being a hothead that mistreated everyone that worked beneath him. All these years later and we still haven't had any of the child actors he worked with actually say that abused them sexually. It is possible that he did and we will find out about it one day, but we've been waiting all these years and still nothing.

Before I watched the series, I was expecting a rundown of events guided by now half a decade old /tv/ memes about Dan being a footfag pedo. After watching the series I felt really frustrated because, while some stuff in undeniably not okay for a work place and Schneider seems like a complete narcissist, there were a lot of stretches taken to smear Schneider that took away from the project as a whole. The series also seemed to fight itself at times where Schneider is an absolute asshole who made inappropriate sketches starting kids for episodes, but then, after shifting focus to Brian Peck, it ends with Peck's rape victim saying Schneider was one of the only people who cared for him. And maybe I'm naïve, but snot flying in a woman's face from getting sneezed on, a man sitting in a hot tub fully dressed, and a character being named "taint" feels more like a visual pay off to a gag, a comedic visual juxtaposition, and writers cheekily using a double meaning to sneak an in joke past censors than any proof of any nefarious misdeeds or sexual abuse. It can also be hard to separate things that might just be seen as silly in the eyes of kids to having a darker meaning in the eyes of adults, and I guess you just have to trust your gut on the writers intent.

Have you seen An Open Secret?

but then, after shifting focus to Brian Peck, it ends with Peck's rape victim saying Schneider was one of the only people who cared for him.

And everyone in his circle believed Ted Bundy was innocent and was one of the nicest guys in the world...

I liked the series. It made me wonder about what other child stars would say if they were of sound mind and told us honestly of their experience. Specifically Amanda Bynes, but also Ariana Grande, Victoria Justice, Jamie Lynne Spears, and Miranda Cosgrove. I am not big into pop culture, so maybe I am just not aware, but I don’t think any of them have come out about their personal experience in the industry. The silence of some of them is pretty loud. Particularly Ariana Grande and Miranda Cosgrove.

I’m not criticizing them. If they experienced trauma and want to move past it on their own then that is their choice. The public isn’t entitled to that information. They also probably worry about impact on their careers. Most of the child stars that spoke in the documentary are not big names and aren’t concerned about landing acting roles now, so they can speak more openly.

Does anyone else think there is a lot more to Dan Schneider’s misconduct than we know about? Pedos are prolific. I’m sure there are many more victims of Brian Peck and Jason Handy that are staying quiet for their own reasons.

I haven't but I will soon. Thanks for the recommendation.

All of this stemmed from an anonymous blog post almost 15 years ago now. It got circulated on 4chan and they started digging and put a ton of pieces together and compiled all of the creepy stuff about Schneider. There was stuff in there they didn't mention, or only lightly implied. Supposedly the ones he was doing things to were THE stars of the show. He was specifically selecting them and grooming them and his favorite girls always got the big roles. One thing they completely missed was Victoria Justice putting out instagram stories that were super cryptic and mentioned "Dan" and heavily implied she was going to expose him. Strangely enough things like that blog and the Victoria Justice video have basically been scrubbed from the internet.

It's my opinion that most of the girls are probably paid to keep quiet. Jeanette McCurdy confirmed she was offered money even though nothing even directly happened to her. So I'd imagine the girls that things actually happened to are getting paid pretty handsomely. Hollywood is protecting Schneider because he'd probably set off a domino effect.

That Drake Bell episode was tough to watch, and the fact that Disney hired Peck after he confessed to raping Bell is insane. How being hired to work on another kid's show wasn't some sort of parole violation blows my mind. But, James Marsden defended him, right? Marsden was Cyclops in X-Men, directed by notorious pervert Bryan Singer. What are the odds Marsden is also a gay pedophile?

The documentary felt unfinished and padded by appearances by people whose grievances against Schneider don't reflect his sexual impropriety toward children. Jennette McCurdy doesn't even appear and she is the most public accuser. The part with Drake Bell is truly horrifying, although the show brushes past the tragedy that the abused child grew up to plead guilty to a sex charge himself.

Keep in mind that children's TV has a great history of perverts: Paul Reubens was a kidvid superstar before anyone heard of Schneider and Kevin Clash was Elmo from 1985 to 2012. Disney makes no secret that it is a safe space for alternative sexualities. So, is Schneider an outlier and something to be expected from the sewers of Hollywood culture?

Gonna have to echo the sentiments in this thread. I found it interesting and learned a couple things, but it really left a lot to be desired. I noticed one example of dishonest editing: there's a part where they talk about Schneider's influence over the underage cast, and throw a blown up quote from a newspaper where he himself mentions "the frightening amount of power [he has] over the kids..."
...but the blurry, out-of-focus part of article is still clearly finishes that quote as "of America." Its a small thing, but it makes me wonder how much more context was deliberately stripped away in the editing process.

Even the stuff with Drake, which was the highlight of this doc, annoyed me with how much they glossed over his own predatorial behavior. They don't need to interrogate him over his charge right after he recounts the way he was raped and groomed or anything, but even having a third party discuss his sexual solicitation charge would be relevant. Bringing up the trend of some CSA survivors becoming predators themselves would even strengthen his credibility, in a way. I'm curious what Drake himself has to say about that potential connection.

Real life stuff has kept me from giving this a watch but all I know about it is that Quinton Reviews is seething right now because he has been working on a video on Schneider that might drop around the election at this rate. He made a video of 6 hours of talking in circles about Sam & Cat and then talked about Im Glad My Mom Died somehow making it about feeling bad about being a fat fuck but also making peace with being a fat fuck.

From what I recall, they touched on it, but moved on quickly. He described it as misinformation, and that it was never physical, only digital, and then they moved right along and to his DUIs. I'm not too sure what he meant by that, but I wish they would have elaborated. At the very least, explain what the misinformation was, unless they can't because it's still bad enough to take sympathy away from him

i honestly feel the same, i watched the documentary and it was very interesting, but it has absurd fucking tonal whiplash. we went from "they made me wear noses that looked like a dick and had dogs lick peanut butter off me" to "I went through the most brutal rape a person can survive when I was 15 years old and a pedophile cornered me at his home"

like I don't think juxtaposing "dan kept asking for massages and said women weren't funny" with "I was molested so bad I considered suicide" was a great idea?

The Buzzfeed reporter was annoying and the clips of youtube/tiktok content creators felt out of place.

Did Dan get thinner or is the beard hiding his fat?

tl;dr: Drake claims he blocked her bc she was underage, she made a fake account and kept following him, no sexual images were shared, and only communicated with her via texts. he's still retarded for flirting with your fans in general though
iirc there's alot of conflicting stories about this such as the aunt of the victim disputing the claims she made, Drake's knowledge of her age, him being in mexico due to the charges, ect. but all of it is probably outside the scope of a short part of a documentary and needs it's own deep dive. kind of shit that they wasted time on shit like naming a character taint and saying that Dan Schneider was racist but this documentary was schizo in it's priorities. because of that, even if they did try to go more indepth I wouldn't trust them to handle it well overall, (hell Jenette was barely touched on despite the book possibly being the reason this whole thing started in the first place)
I do think it's glossed over unfortunately as I feel the case is most likely the spark that made him decide "fuck I need to talk about this right now" shit probably retraumatized the guy or something and while that sucks, it's important to give context for stuff like this. Plus I don't think drake wants to come off like he is calling her jail bait like Peck did to every other celebrity who knew him.
