Not really. Their purpose is to figure out when he's competent to stand trial and really all they'll do is drug him up until he can sit in a courtroom without tarding out and say things like "guilty" or "not guilty."

It's for the best of both society and Daniel. Daniel was running around inconveniencing society and catching diseases normal people haven't had to worry about since the trenches of the Somme.
