It wouldn't look good for childrens entertainment producers to be on Netflix anymore if the Attorney General has a probe for child exploitation attached to their record. It's humiliating.
 
Realistically, it would have been difficult to make a season 2 that wasn't "Genocide: The Series!" even if the funding was there. We all know how this story turns out by the time the movie rolls around.

I don't think they should have gotten all those celebrity voices. That must not have been cheap.
 
I feel like Jim Henson properties never get the chance they deserve. It's an absolute shame, I really enjoyed it - plus this show was so nice to look at.

I think we all miss Jim Henson for his genius puppetry and performances. But it's become clear that he was also a great businessman. He was able to not only get his shows off the ground, but keep them on the air.

Since his tragic passing, I've seen numerous projects announced that never happen. And when they do come out, they don't last. Like the latest Muppets series, Muppets Now just bombed on Disney+. Nobody saw it, and those that did hated it.

You have a choice: you either get a movie with a richly-realized, highly detailed visual environment but only the broadest of stories

or

a full TV series crammed with lore and character interaction, detailing every last story point and piece of history that's ever occurred within the setting, but done as cheaply as possible.

I don't think we're at a point where a franchise could afford to do both.

One of the best things Netflix has ever put out cancelled after 1 season. Fuck them forever.

But yeah, it was probably absurdly expensive and the return didn't justify it. And the second season would have to have been a massive genocide unless they come up with some bullshit retcon that they escape to another dimension or something.

Fuck Netflix. They have pedobait and a movie about a guy who fucked an octopus, and this is what they cancel?
May the gods take them all and to the hells with them!
 
Netflix really dropped the ball on this especially after this show won an Emmy too. Though I wonder if Jim Henson co pulled out due to them doubling down on defending cuties of all things. Here's to hoping they will get there second season, with or without Netflix.

Don't know where else to put this - just saw the original Dark Crystal movie for the first time in the theater. Holy shit, what an amazing experience. The worldbuilding and creature designs were awesome, the story decent, if a little basic, and dat Trevor Jones score is GOATed. The puppetry also holds up remarkably well, despite it being a movie from 40 years ago. It's a shame it didn't do as well as Jim hoped it would, and that both it and Labyrinth (which is also a pretty good movie)'s failure discouraged him from making more movies, because he clearly knew a thing or two about making them. Also saw a few kids in the theater, and they looked to be really into it as well. 8/10, would make the Crystal whole again.

rewatched the show after convincing my wiferino to watch with me. It no you get past the goofiness/awkwardness of the puppet characters it’s totally fantastic. Story is nothing to do backfips over but everything else is just fantastically creative. Also, adrenochrome-esque allegories were interesting. It’s a shame that this didn’t go anywhere further, beyond Dune there isn’t something with as creative designs that has been put out in years.

I watched it as an adult, maybe about ten years ago.

I still think that Jen could've made his work a lot easier by just slaughtering all the peaceful Mystics, which would've also killed the Skesis. Yeah that would've shortcutted the whole plot and genocided the urSkeks permanently, but he could've saved himself a LOT of trouble.

Theater cut first. Always do the theater cut of any movie first unless it was mangled beyond recognition (Brazil, for example).
