A thread talking about DD or telling tales of defeat or victory in this dark and cruel place.

So to start us off i bought this game a few days ago because i watched Vinny from Vinesauce play this game and i was interested in my playing this myself. So i bought the game thanks to a steam sale and played the game for two hours.

During those two hours four of my heroes died and the ones that survived were either very stressed or have alot of bad traits. So im on the fence on either making a new game or firing some heroes and starting a new with other heroes.

Does anyone have some tips for me?

Be very cautious and bring lots of food and torches. Food needs to be brought in large quantities and torches don't have to be but if you let the light reach zero you can encounter the shambler and that is pretty much an automatically failed quest

EDIT: and remember that it is often the right decision to give up on quests

What class you think would be the best to bring on quests? Mostly i get Bounty Hunters, Lepers or Crusaders so i mostly use them. You think i should wait to get better heroes or upgrade the wagon in hopes of getting a good class or not?

I read also that i shouldn't upgrade the heroes since they can die at anytime and it would be a waste of my gold. Should i focus more so on torches then food because usually when i do a quest all the food is gone because my guys eat them all. And should i buy a shovel eveytime i go on a quest?

Depends on the area. That was a good combination for the ruins but it isn't a good combination for other areas

Remember what types of enemies you will be facing in each area. For the Warrens take a houndmaster and other bleed inducing classes. For the Weald focus on bleed because they are more vulnerable to bleeed than blight. For the Cove focus on blight and bring a party a level or two above what you would normally bring for the mission difficulty. For the Ruins focus on blight and religious members

Never go on long quests because they are not worth it with a limited sack

Get stagecoach upgrades because they allow you to get already upgraded party members

Upgrade heroes only when they are already a fairly high level, never upgrade heroes you just got with the exception of moves since having a bad move combination can make any class useless (except abomination which is why I use them a lot). If a hero has kelptomania or another crippling quirk remove it before it becomes locked but remember that you will get all the negative quirk spaces filled so only get rid of the crippling ones

Yes. Even if they survive it affects stress too much to be ignored and you will save gold that you would need to spend reducing stress.

In the Warrens you should. Ruins and Weald are unnecessary. Cove you should take multiple shovels.

Only cure diseases when they are actually bad ones

Be careful about heroes becoming overqualified for their missions and refusing to go on them. That can really mess with you if you have a very useful hero

Okay and should i explore most of the dungeon or not to do so in case im attacked and killed? What should i party be for most of the dungeons?Like healers and people who can help buff my party?

Okay and is their a way to farm antique.

Early in the game, be willing to cut loose any heroes who have a lot of negative quirks. You need to treat your level 0/1 heroes as disposable. If they take a beating, it isn't worth wasting money on treating them. Upgrading the stage coach should be your first priority.

Almost every party should have at least one strong healer; either a Vestal or an Occultist. take a look at your heroes abilities and assign them positions where they will work best. For example, Lepers go in the front, Arbalests go in the back. Try to make combos base on their abilities as well, such as having a Houndmaster mark an enemy so the Arbalest can score a big hit.

As far as how much you should explore, it's a balancing act. Every fight has the potential to be costly, but also potentially profitable. One trick I recommend is healscumming; leave one weak enemy up for a while while you spend your turns healing damage and stress.

What class would be good to heal stress? The classes so far do not do that unless i am at a camp fire.

Explore it after the quest is finished so you can leave at any time without penalty

Vestals are better healers than Occultists who can cause bleeding but Occultists are more diverse (occultists are more diverse)

But if you let a fight last too long reinforcements come and stress increases

And would Crusader and Hellion be useful in combat? Because i am getting them alot also in the pool of heroes in the caravan.

Okay and finally is their any buildings in my town i should be focused on upgrading? How often are the attacks on my town because i heard they do happen and can fuck up my town.

Im also thinking of documenting a new game with the estate called Kiwi Farms and i can name the heroes after users here or Lolcows on the site.

I have never had an attack on my town
Just upgrade the stagecoach and the armory and other thing (with new levels not cheapness) in order to get experienced recruits

Cool okay i will keep that in mind,Thank you.

So one last question would it be okay to start all over again if things go tits up?

Nah. You can always recruit more heroes and then just ditch them. Starting over means you lose all of the progress you made.

Okay but currently i have two of my heroes in the Abby to relive stress,So i have two heroes to use now do i just have to wait in real time or could i use them even though they are super stressed out?

Take a bunch of new heroes and send them on a suicide mission to collect stuff (giving only the bare minimum supplies) and then dismiss them afterwards
