Darkest Dungeon

I just found out about this game yesterday and holy shit does this look like my kind of game. I really want to get it, but I want to wait for a sale first.

On the road, we found redemption....

The game broke me. I have reached the Darkest Dungeon, but I wiped twice in the first expedition. First time was just with lv. 1's for the sake of the achievement, second time, I lost all but one of my LV. 6's.

Add that to the Brigands raiding me and the much more powerful enemies and bosses in the highest tier levels, I just kinda put down the game and played other stuff just so I can relax. Fuck you and your squid monster infested estate Dad(or Grandad?). I was happy living the humble life I have now.

I might come back to it eventually though.

It's fucking rough. This game's biggest flaw is its ridiculous use of RNG for the bulk of it and the fact that foreknowledge is practically a requirement for the last dungeons. I'll give one, critical, absolutely vital set of advice that pretty much everyone should know, however.

The Darkest Dungeon has no blockages, needs no keys, and does not have night-time ambushes.

They are the only dungeons in the game not randomly generated, as well, so the enemies you encounter in a specific location will always be in that location. Stock up and have a surplus of food, bandages, antitoxins, and herbs. Holy Water, too. Use Holy Water before any major encounter. Hunger checks are rare in the Darkest Dungeon, but having lots of food is useful to help heal up between fights and to use it for big meals during camp. If you beat a mission there, however, everyone will regain all stress and be emboldened by the effort. Anyone who completes a mission there, however, will refuse to ever go back - but they no longer count as taking a slot in your barracks, and can help level up other heroes thereafter.

By far the hardest fight in the game is the second mission to the Darkest Dungeon. Be prepared, bring all three Torch Icons (the reward from the first quest), and make sure one of your other characters can cover (I.E. Houndmaster/Man-at-Arms) or force a cover (Antiquarian) to ensure that the one party member without a torch stays safe. You want to be kitted for bear.

Hey @Anime is Blood I found the actual Darkest Dungeon thread from way back here. There's also a good Let's Play in Let's Sperg.

Anyway this game is good and I like it a lot. There's a lot of subtle detail put into it that I enjoy picking up on and it definitely lets you sort of 'build' your own story. It's a story about how you fucked up and killed everyone, apparently, but it does have its upbeats--like when my precious Grave Robber went virtuous right on the verge of defeat and we somehow killed that goddamn Collector asshole. I hate that guy.

Has anyone tried the new short mode?

I'm still in the middle of my first run at like 80 hours since I was about to start the Darkest Dungeons but had a party wipe on my best heroes and got so buttmad I quit playing for awhile.

I was doing a run through the ruins, and I stumbled upon an evil looking orb, wraped around some obsidian.

and then my team got fung into outerspace with a fucking shambler

They all fucking died, and I deleted my save. I then made another estate and called it the "I hate myself" estate.

Learn how to cheat the game. Piece of advice: you can save scum. Inb4 it gets patched on the DLC (kinda like the bug I used to play The Lost in BoI:Rebirth).

Edit: I'm not sure if @Jaimas knows that specific detail, but you can also "reroll" Resolve Checks by the same means.

If you want revenge, check out my run of the game. He gets his multiple times at the hands of various Kiwis.

Got my first party wipe on one of those yesterday (Leaper-Crusader-GR-Vestal). They got shuffled into really crappy positions and I couldn't do enough damage fast enough. My crusader got a bit of a shining moment, lasting around six attacks while on deaths door before finally getting wiped.
Lost a whole bunch of really nice trinkets. (Good thing the Shrieker showed up next week and I got to recover them)

love this game.
tip for anyone whos new the leper is by far the worst class in the game and the hellion/new dlc guy is the best.
the abomination is almost never worth it early because of the lack of other people who can actually work with them.
upgrade the stage coach as soon as possible.
dont fuck with the crimson court till you have some level threes and the first mission for the dlc also has a trap boss that will fuck you up early.
after you beat a dungeon and your in a room with treasure or you can guarantee there is no more fights turn off the torch for more rewards its almost always worth it.
oh and radiant mode is just flat out better so just do that if your new.
also you should almost always have a occultist or vestal.
jester is also the best stress healer in the game.
the dog dude is usually very situational.
sorry for my sperging, hopefully this will help someone.

Leper, Abomination, and Dogemaster are awesome, you just need a party to work with them.

Leper is a frontliner and has the best damage potential in the game. Yeah, he's slow as shit, and yeah, he's not as accurate, but you cede the need to give a fuck with the right quirks and he is outlandishly self-sufficient. He will reliably out-damage a comparable Hellion in almost every situation, and though the Helly's faster and has better evade, the Leper isn't trying to horn in on her aggressor role. Leper is a combination frontline tank and raw damage dealer and there's nobody who does both at the same time better.

Abomination is great now that his stress buildup got nerfed. He can't work with the four religious classes (Vestal, Leper, Crusader, Flagellant), but he doesn't need them either; he still has 15 other classes he can work alongside and many of them combine well with him offensively and defensively. In his human form he's a reliable debuffer and remarkably tanky, owing to his self-heals and self-sanity heal; in beast form he hits like a truck and is great at taking down tough opposition quickly. Put on the right trinkets and he's usable in basically every party that can house him.

Houndmaster's the core of a marking party with the best debuff mark in the game and phenomenal damage spikes. Mark + Doge Rush + Biscuit = Holy shit damage, especially if you back him with buffs and quirks. Ideally, you put him in a marking party with the likes of the Bounty Hunter and Arbalest, where the team can rack up damage insanely quickly. Houndmaster also has a great self-heal and one of the most reliable stuns in the entire game, so there's that.

All in all, all three are fantastic, it all depends on you.

[/i never said abom is bad. im saying its bad to get him week 3 when you have a crusader, vestal, and leper as your only useable party members or some shit.i personally love abom due to his raw self sufficiency and being a decently tanky option in second position.

and i would say that hound master is good just very niche, you even gave a fairly decent team for him,but hes a hard character to stick into any team and make work like some other classes can.

now on to his stats
high health
low dodge
one of the lowest speeds in the game(REALLY BAD)
low crit chance
highest damage in the game(even more than abom in his second form)
high stun resist
decent blight resist
really low bleed resist(especially bad since bleed is all over the new expansion)
average disease resist
good move resist
above average debuff resist
below average trap disarm
one of the only characters with only one move at a time in combat(this is important because if the leper get out of the front two positions he is completely screwed)
so he has overall ok stats

now back to stressing basic stuff. THE LEPER ONLY BRINGS DAMAGE.(this is really important to remember) OK so now that we got that out of the way lets see who he can hit with his ability's, oh look its only position one or two, you know the ones with the tanks in them. now that we know who he can hit its important to know who he cant hit,THE BACKLINE, you know the place with the stress casters, heavy damage dealers, and the high priority targets that you need to kill first.let me remind you he the only character with all of his damage in the front two ranks, even the crusader at least has a stun and holy lance.
now onto his accuracy issue.his ability's scale up in accuracy but they tend to be twenty less then similar skills at a similar level.so the leper a slow high damage character has some of the most inconsistent behavior of any character in the game due to him only attacking every once in a awhile and having a high chance to miss even then. a big thing is that ,in my opinion, inconsistent damage is even worse then low damage since its a bad idea to have to plan around missing your target.again since he is so slow and you need to properly use the round to stress heal and normal heal he is usually who you use to deal the killing blow and he misses that more then any other character, which means that now you have a not dead enemy who can get a move off on you and you have to repeat the same process again with a chance to miss again, and that is a recipe for reinforcements to arrive. so with him not being able to hit high priority targets early he's bad early in the fight, and due to his low speed and low chance to hit he has the highest chance to fuck up the ends of fights.and now i know your saying that you should just buff his accuracy, but the problem with that is that every other character has a more efficient opportunity cost due to them not having to buff a bad rng stat,so if your gonna put a buff on a character to make them stronger almost every other character could use that opportunity better.

so tldr: he blows and everyone else can do his job better, but if you like seeing big numbers go with him i guess.(hes okay early on at least)]

Threads been pretty dead, but with the ongoing development of DD2 are there any features you guys are holding out for? I heard the Nomad Wagon was going to be balanced out more, and I hope that characters from the first games DLC (like Flag) carry over.
