Meanwhile
DMCA Retard War
The Alatriste Duelist skin, Butcher Bird skin, and Somber Home for Lost Monsters and Here be Monsters are back on Steam, while Somber Koala's Creature Collection is currently unavailable.

Somber KCC is gone?
For now. On its face the DMCA against it is weaker/more obviously abuse than the other two Somber packs since Koala explicitly gave permission, which is probably why it was targeted after the other two Somber packs were restored rather than at the same time. I have not looked into the obvious gayops occurring.

It's still available on Skymods and Nexus if you didn't get a local copy before and want it now.

A Steam reupload of a Nexus mod. The Steam page is visible to archive.today meaning that it's visible with default filters, in contrast to even NSFPrudish cases like the Omen Seeker.

In less deviant news, Somber KCC was restored two weeks ago. Nemesis named Iris as the DMCA abuser, though in less public a manner than I would have liked. Iris coincidentally has not appeared in online public for some weeks, so it's not clear if he or anyone else noticed. Nemesis also claimed today to be working on a new class. Whether or not it actually plays well, the milk will flow.

Also the Cleric Errant by Badger, last updated in 2022, just received a visual update with the old visuals being spun off to a Legacy mod.

All of those should increase chance of contracting blight or bleed by 100000% like they do in real life.

So the gooners from Nexus decided to shit up steam workshop too?

I have not touched DD2 since they added Crusader. So I have questiion how are they coping with fact that June Wayne (RIP) is no longer with us ?

Not great, not terrible. Kingdoms modules 2 and 3 had no voice lines that were not already recorded, as a "moment of silence" (their words). Other than Kingdoms they've been making gameplay revisions which wouldn't have required new lines.

Black Reliquary finally has a new Captain's Log (dev update).
  • v1.0 is projected to be released late 2026. There will be many gameplay, progression and balance changes.
  • I'm slightly surprised that the current official status of the mod tools is pessimistic. In September someone called Albireowolfe reappeared in the Project Iron Crown Discord to say he had been recommended to work on the mod tools, and that coincided with Team Reliquary seemingly getting some of their mojo back. However he mentioned losing his job and being chronically ill, so other than the lack of visible genderworms perhaps he wasn't more able to commit than Gibbed was. In the worst-case scenario, Team Reliquary will release what exists of the mod tools on Github. I'm ambivalent about whether that would lead to more troonacy, or whether other flavors of lunacy like Kaze and the Chinese would gain prominence by finishing the mod tools first, or whether it would invite an influx of new modders to dilute the lunacy by volume (🌈).

  • A visually-updated Thorn has been added as the fifth and supposedly final add-on class. I've never been sold on the Thorn even though she seems to be a staple mod class, but whatever floats their boat.

It is Anno Domini 2025 and DDCord still seethes at any mention of Kaze:

I would rather use an Iris mod than a Kaze mod, I wouldn't be surprised if Kaze is a lolifag, and if his gravy train did get derailed it's his fault. But even in this attempt to paint Iris as a beleaguered hero, Kaze doxing him just reads like snitches getting stitches. There is no way anyone cared that much about Red Hook's TOS unless they already had beef with Kaze.
1766578617837.png

But perhaps I'm wrong. Perhaps the modding community stands by their principles that paywalling mods is "not a practice we respect nor desire". Perhaps they would remind anyone of TOS when it's relevant... like when Ancestress, one developer of the gooner overhaul mod Lustiest Lair, asks for help implementing anti-piracy measures for his mod in the official Discord where Red Hook staff are members?

Of course not.

Spotlight for an underrated 2025 mod, The Anomaly - Storyline. Think Chogex's Fallen Heroes, but instead of random encounters with enemy parties, each vanilla hero has their own dungeon and boss fight. This is perfect for my current estate where I'm using monsters and region denizens to fight monsters, and no vanilla heroes other than prisoners rescued from the Courtyard.

Not counting the intro quest for the mod, I've only faced two heroes so far, the Houndmaster and the Abomination. But between those two there is already decent variety in the fights. The Houndmaster, for plot reasons, is in a 3x3 Warrens dungeon where every room has a Flesh boss (most of them are the Apprentice or Veteran versions which are not too hard for a Champion team, but assuming the spawns are fixed, the Flesh in the bottom right is the Champion Formless Flesh, which will wreck a non-Flesh-focused party.)
1766800253212.png
1766802254878.png
But the Houndmaster "Fang and Fury" himself is one dude with a ton of health, using Cannoli's Swine Tracker/Great Dane skin.
1766802665314.png

In contrast, the Abomination used his Werewolf skin beast form to become the alpha of a rabies-ridden Weald wolf pack.
1766803572797.png
The solution? Assert dominance.
1766803241118.png

There is a plot: these fights start after a timey-wimey ball sees you finding a wrecked stagecoach in the Weald with another Heir, but you have a falling out and Poor Communication Kills and these are the other Heir's people and this is your cue to feel bad. My review? The Ancestor did it better. But I do like the journal drops.

This mod has 338 subs, approximately half as many as the degenerate Nexus reupload I posted upthread. Why is this?

For one, the Steam page is a terrible pitch. Quceka might have wanted to avoid spoilers for their plot, but they end up showing nothing. These are their Steam screenshots. Where is the hook?

The description is/was equally vague.
An Anomaly has become part of the Hamlet unexpectedly, you will have to deal with the consequences.

Introduction

Welcome to The Anomaly mod page for Darkest Dungeon. This mod introduces a completely new storyline, confronting you with what and who you have become and the voices haunting you.

Disclaimer: In order to get full functionality out of this mod the following DLC should be enabled: Crimson Court, Colour of Madness and Shieldbreaker.
If you want to enjoy the full story, be sure not to have any mods implementing new Journal Entries Enabled.

Story

An unexpected Guest arrives at the Hamlet, drawn by similar reasoning as your own. Throughout your stay it becomes clear this Guest's goals do not align with your own, causing for conflict within the Hamlet.

This story is told through:
  • 21 new Town Events
  • 16 new Quests
  • 15 new Custom maps
  • 17 new Bosses
  • 18 new Journal Entries
It was only by reading the comments (and now the 1.1 patch notes) that you can guess the new bosses are vanilla heroes.

For another, 1.0 was not well coded: the intro quest wouldn't always appear when you got the town event, and it would never appear again if it didn't appear the first time. This has been fixed in 1.1, but there is no longer a recent upload effect. Pacing and balance are also potential issues as 1.0 was uploaded before Quceka did their own full run.

Lastly, the Discord modding channel won't touch it because of the poor pitch and because Quceka did not know the shibboleth that New Journals Are Bad. (They do actually have a point, but when Koala's Creature Collection is still around with its journals, and save editors exist now, there is no reason for the attitude.) I do not know if Quceka is guilty of any other ungoodthink.
If you take a new journal back to the Hamlet and then decide you don't like the mod and turn it off, the save will break. This is why Marvin's classes no longer drop journals (but still have the IDs defined to avoid breaking old saves), and why KCC has a separate Journals upload for people who want to turn it off.

Also, journal IDs are numerical and they might be limited, so it's very difficult for modders to coordinate compatibility. For example, Anomaly should be loaded above KCC, because if not, defeating the Houndmaster will drop one of the Thrall's journals even if you don't have the Thrall installed, because for some reason KCC has the Thrall's journals defined, and one of them uses the same ID as the Anomaly Houndmaster's journal.

Though the relative obscurity of the Anomaly mod was avoidable, it's fine work for a seemingly solo modder (using others' hero skins for visual variety). I've edited the Anomaly files to get the fights to generate as quickly as possible. They're meant to be paced out like the Shrieker's fights, but the Shrieker only has four trinkets and this mod has 16 quests. This would be less of a problem if the intro quest had appeared after week 6 like it was meant to, and not at 100+ weeks after I got the 1.1 patch. Will see what else is worth posting.

I've recently been trying out Dankmeme Dungeon II, since a friend gave me it as a holiday present.

Overall, I'm really mixed on it. There's a lot I enjoy, the presentation is pretty damn cool, but holy shit, whoever designed the relationship system should be dragged into the street and shot.

I didn't know it was possible to make a mechanic this unfun, counter-intuitive, and frustrating. I've literally gotten entire runs where I have to abort the run minutes into the third zone because it locked in crippling debuffs to the most commonly used abilities I have. Yes, fucking induce blind on my goddamn melee damage class for using fucking Wyrd Reconstruction. Induce fucking stun on my tank every time I use Duelist's Advance.

Other times I'm fine until I reach the mountain, at which point my team now decides that literally everything should now inflict weak on my party members.

Someone greenlit this system. Someone got paid to approve of this.
That shit fascinates me, and terrifies me.

It comes down to the fact the relationship system replaced resolves; the meltdown stuff exists because players expected resolves to return.

Your experience is your own, but I've found relationships to be simple and easy to handle. This could be because from the moment I picked the game up I assumed it would be worth my time to focus on them, so I was always saving money for whiskey flasks, but I genuinely can't relate to anybody who's had multiple concurrent bad relationships (outside of some cancerous Infernal challenge or after leaving a shitty inn). It does feel like the system is made to snowball; bad relationships are more like punishments than something that's meant to regularly happen, akin to how afflictions were justifiably random in DD1 because if you let someone afflict, it's already gone to shit. You get lots of negative relationship pips by being down on your luck (you've got two characters are low HP, and they're fighting to get healed, OR you're too weak to be fighting battles, so you're at non-battle landmarks, and they're infighting over what to do at them).

What might've kept me from finding frustration with the system is how I approach fights: I get into as many of them as I can, and I handle them slowly. A battle that last for six turns will almost always net 2 relationship points, and that's after you might've gotten extra when the party was deciding how to approach the landmark, and all THAT comes on top of the loot you get from fighting. This game conditioned me to rampage every run, and perhaps as a result, my parties are always in harmony. I liked this style of play, but I can imagine it being very tedious, as I feel like I'm the only person I've seen who doesn't feel inclined to speed up the game with mods or settings.
exploiting that shitty mechanic.
The Songbook of Touching Dirges was designed by a fucking lunatic. Invest heavily into unlocking inn items at the meta progression screen, get this thing early, and you'll never have problems with relationships ever. Also, never touch the whiskey barrel, complete trap unless you're swimming in relationship points

1767661605791.png

Good advice in general, and I will put it to use, but it blows my mind that absolutely none of this mechanic is signposted.

You can easily make it through the prologue without knowing a goddamn thing over what is, from all analysis, one of the most important mechanics in DD2.

Just booted up the game for the first time in a year to find they've massacred my boy.

From old ability.pngto new ability.png

Because god forbid anyone have a reliable stress heal in this game. I truly hope Red Hook has to suffer with everyone liking their jank ass first game more than anything else they make for the rest of time.

I've been playing quite a bit of it, and I think I'm seeing what @Irrational Bounty Hunter was getting at here. There's really some good shit here, but it requires a few things that aren't going to be remotely apparent to DD1 veterans, and will likely turn more than a few off. But if you're actually willing to stick it out, find what works for you, and hammer things together, holy shit does this game come together in a very interesting way.
