There seems to be some confusion about how to file for disability related to mental health issues.

You have to find a doctor who’s willing to diagnose you with depression/ anxiety/ other mental health issues for which you can be (preferably) prescribed meds. You tell said doctor that your mental health issues are so debilitating that you cannot work and would like to file for Short Term Disability (STD) which would allow you to get bi-weekly payments from the govt for about a year. The amount of money you receive is based on the previous jobs you’ve had and how much you contributed to your own SDI fund (taken out of your paycheck every time you get paid). It’s important to note that the doctor has to start the process to file for STD and then you’ll be filling out paperwork as well.

It’s actually a legitimate program but that is often used to game the system a bit.

Now, if someone decided to go on STD during the year of 2020 while filing for UI and getting them stimmy checks, a Walmart cashier like Madara_is_a_cuck could have been getting $5k-$6k/mo doing absolutely nothing. I know one my co-workers who had legitimate mental health issues and had a high paying salary (that was about 5 years ago) was making about $7,000 net staying at home for a year while he was recovering. The higher your past salaries, the more money you take home.

Problem is such a program only lasts a year and after that you have to qualify for Long Term Disability (LTD) and to qualify for the latter, your disability becomes much harder to prove and you need to actually prove a physical defect, not a mental one. Maybe the dent in his head could be used to game the system further but all the people I’ve met who were on LTD had major physical issues that prevented them to work consistently altogether (think RobOnWheels as the people who qualify for LTD).

He basically has one year of getting free money and after that he’ll be bumped down to SSDI (Social Security Disability Insurance) and that’s literally $150 per month of some ridiculously low bullshit.

Anyways, doesn’t surprise me this idiot would be buying an expensive gaming PC for a streaming career that’s going to go nowhere using money he’ll never be able to make in his life ever again.

Phil created a YouTube channel for his DeathFace character. This is the Twitter account he made for it.

I needed to be reminded about the DSPcultleader detractor channel to find Phil's 'DeathFaceGaming' channel because Phil actually commented on some of those detractor videos posts that were basically rolling with it, i.e. agreeing that 'Phil is a lying piece of shit' and whatnot from under his DeathFaceGaming YouTube account. I wasn't able to find it with searches and had to use the direct link from one of Phil's comments on DSPcultleader's videos, so big ups @JimiHendrix for being an old school detractor

Phil actually had a real following like 10 years ago, it's hard to believe.

Reading through the comments on the older videos is pretty fun because you can see the drastic change in tone from around 2012 to present. In the oldest comments I see people who tout him as some kind of bad boy rebel. And anything after around 2016 is when he has become the pathetic lolcow he is today.

I think if Phil had put even the slightest bit of effort into his content, he'd still have a decent sized following on YouTube. I think, unless he was really putting in a huge amount of effort, he'd still bleed a fair amount of members as YouTube evolved and Twitch became a thing, but he'd probably do similar to Game Grumps or maybe some of the "bigger" Channel Awesome people. Continuing to do the 10 minute camcorder videos when LPs were moving away to longer/face cam videos really hurt. Not only did it make Phil's videos appear dated in comparison, but I think it broke the pignosis for a lot of his viewers, who were probably only watching because he kept showing up in the top results. They didn't know there were better personalities out there and just settled with Phil, but now they're seeing all these other, higher quality videos and when they check them out, they aren't greeted with obnoxious snorts.

TIHYDP and The Incident are the biggest contributors to this change, because they're the wake up calls that Phil needed but couldn't handle. His parents clearly sheltered him to a severe degree, and when he met with reality, he wasn't prepared. What makes it worse, though, and is why things never get better for him, is that he doesn't WANT to be prepared either. His cowardice is deeper than just getting mousey in front of people, Phil is so afraid of what the world turned out to be once he left what for him was childhood, that childhood represents safety and comfort to him. All human beings could use both in their lives, this is true. No one wants or needs to spend every day of their existence going through Vietnam War/Holocaust type of shit.

But Phil's safety and comfort zone does more than just take him away from legit scary things like thugs, car accidents, and fires. It dis-empowers him, prevents him from being able to gut his way through things, and avoid any of life's pot-holes. That's why normal hazards that aren't a huge deal disrupt him so much, Phil's desire is to be a kid forever, like Peter Pan, and never deal with non-kid things, ever.

I know he talks about being a mature adult all the time, but that's the child in him being a shit head. It's a shield that he hides behind, because he's a baby who can't handle being seen for what he really is, and wants to remain.

he's pretty much just continued going because he feels entitled to it.

He keeps going because he has to unless he wants to go back to getting fired over and over again. What he feels entitled to doesn't factor into it because his entitlement goes way beyond making lots of money.

Because they're competing for the money with people who are actually disabled. And because lawyers who do it on contingency are paid from the funds backdated to the date of application, they aren't very incentivized to hurry up because they literally get paid less.

Also the malingerers have the time and ability to put together a stack of convincing looking paperwork. Real disabled people often have difficulty even getting around to their utterly necessary medical appointments, much less get the right language their medical reports to qualify. They're often homeless and don't have medical insurance. And, ironically, since you're generally required to show a treatment history, they're at even more of a disadvantage in getting one.
