I can agree. Phil playing new games are usually very boring.

When he plays something older, there is a certain magic too it. The rage, the not going where to go, the control slams, awesome.

I just don't understand the complaining. The audience is telling you what they want to see....just play the fucking game! It's not that hard.
the thing is, as I've stated before, the key reason as to why his playthroughs aren't as unintentionally hilarious is due to how easy most games nowadays are. Back then, games (say, 90s-early 00s) were a bit more difficult (not to the point of being Nintendo hard but still challenging) which to DSP, that pretty much means he's fucked. Stream chat can only help him so much before it's down purely to skill and DSP's gaming skills are next to none (insert Project 7 joke here)

He's taking a massive tantrum about mario sunshine. He says that he needs a game to make money off and "will be gone in January" if he can't.

Levels of pathetic.

I guess the detractors better get ready with their troll pledges and votes then!!!!!!!!

I think it's time to let you guys know I've been working on a DSP timeline of events document, going all the way from July 8th 1998 to September 2017.
It's still in a rough state, but I'll later upload it here in a separate post.
A couple of things I added in the timeline that are worth pointing out: the darksydephil channel was created on March 3rd, 2007. The first actual video however was uploaded on June 23rd, 2008 (Midwest Moment #4 - Day 1 Setup) and he would consistenly start doing playthroughs by October 2008 (the first non SF video was Star Wars TFU but it wasn't a playthrough. Uploaded on October 2nd, 2008 )
I've also separated a few large events as sagas (a la chris chan)
This way, it will help newcomers to catch up to DSP's antics and also to provide a much needed update to the OP of this thread as well as DSP's lolcow wiki page.

If the Drgnkiller quotes are anything to go by it was fucking insane. Detractors are donating to his Patreon to vote for Mario Sunshine to ruin his business. It has been proven before if you donated to Phil once for forum access it was probably never taken away. So maybe a few detractors were involved in the vote, but Sunshine won by a large margin most of those votes were actual patrons.

The fucked up thing ishe already got and spent the money. This is a July goal that most of his patrons will not get to see what they pledged for until January but why would Dsp care he was already paid. Make sure to pledge again this month morons.

Because Phil cares more about himself than making money. If he put money above himself then he'd be willing to make a few concessions but nope, he's gotta have it his way.

He pinned himself in a corner there. We all know he needs to bandwagon on every AAA release, but there are only so many (and even less he can stomach). Even people on the TKOH forums mention his constant AAA playthroughs make him look like someone from IGN or Gamespot, doubly so when he buys all of them day one. Without Patron's choice, he'll be in more of a drought after every January or so, because even when he runs out of new releases he almost always hunts for very high profile games- Phil ain't playing a Tales game, or a Disgaea. He should have carved a niche by now, but by playing every big release he has no identity of his own next to other gaming streamers.

The thing I'm not understanding here is this (and correct me if any of my figures are off here):
  • We know that Phil makes the majority of his bucks on Twitch and he easily makes between $100-200 a day.
  • On YouTube We know Phil gets roughly 750 views per video; assuming 100 videos, we can say he will get at most 75-100,000 views for a playthrough
  • Phil supposedly had a CPM of $1.5 back in the good days, meaning he's going to be making at most somewhere in the region of 50-150 USD (which I would say is a wildly optimistic figure)
So he is basically "robbing peter to pay Paul"? He's putting at risk $1000 USD over $150???
Why the fuck doesn't he just dedicate 2 days per week to Mario Sunshine or some shit? I'm amazed that his Pateon supporters don't tell him to get fucked. I'm more amazed how with each passing day Phil still finds a way to do something stupider than the day before.

I could think up 100 better solutions to the Mario Sunshine problem rather than telling your supporters essentially to go fuck themselves. As usual his reasons are the biggest crock of candy ass bullshit I've ever seen in my life. He always has some elaborate excuse to avoid doing something.

And its proven this is all bullshit, because the fucker is taking 4-5 days off in the beginning of October. Yes, the same October that Phil has spent weeks insisting is the "hardcore gaming season".

Phil, Phil never changes.

Yes, the same October that Phil has spent weeks insisting is the "hardcore gaming season".

I'm fairly sure last year's 'HGS' he got overwhelmed and wanted to take a break around the same time. Pretty sure you can make a 'DSP cycle' from that. How many times has he had actually big expectations and just ended up shitting the bed?

Lol Hardcore Gaming Season.

At first to him it was Nov-Dec. Then is was Oct-Dec. Now he reaaaallly pushes it. He was saying the end of July I believe that it felt like the "Hardcore Gaming Season".

By 2020 it's projected the Hardcore Gaming Season will start around February and end in January.
"These games are niche, no one is interested in these games. I am having a blast with these games *SNORT* If you haven't seen my playthrough go and visit my youtube page *BELCH* excuse me."

Most people are throwing around HBG, Hardcore Begging Season. Donate games to DSP, although he ain't charity, times are tough for this manbaby. HARD TIMES!!!

Old FGC DSP post dated July 27th, 2003
"Comments:

-Walter "BacardiJ3di" Padilla tried to pull a fast one by LYING and saying he beat Christian, when they never even played. This totally fucked up the brackets and I had to stick Christian into a later buy-back round because Walter had lied, and already got eliminated from the tourney before I could fix anything.
-Shoe came out of NOWHERE and decided to kick everybody's ass today. The guy doesn't even play MvC2 but you may remember him from MvC1 days.
-Kong, for the first time ever, decided to do well in a tournament and got 4th. He was going to go to work but decided to call out and stay, and he did well. By the way Kong, you left your pizza so Shoe and I ate it
grin.gif
can't let it go to waste.
-Winners finals was DSP vs Desmond, which Des won 3-1. Finals was a repeat, 4-1. Pretty much I couldn't block anything Des's Magneto did on our sticks, which is funny because I could block everything Sanford did with Magneto at CTF a few weeks ago. Either our cabs controls are too close to each other so I can't get the correct angle to block fast, or the sticks aren't as good as CTF's. But I'm sure as hell that I knew how to block that basic high-low stuff he was doing.
-Dru just doesn't understand the fact that you can't buy back in if you're in 5th place when you lose; that's just too far. He kept complaining that I wouldn't make an exception for him, when I kept explaining to him that everyone else that re-entered lost two rounds before him, and would most likely easily lose to Shoe and Kong anyway. He was upset, but oh well, I'm a FAIR tournament director and I can't make exceptions.

There will be another tournament in THREE weeks time on August 16th, that's the Saturday after EVO."
Even when getting 2nd, he bitches. goddamn.

One of the many good things to come from the death of the SoK is their preference for only one way to do TIHYDP videos. If a TIHYDP didn't match their preference then they never featured it. So what happened is a lot of recent videos were made according to the SoK standards, which stifled creativity.

Now that the SoK is gone, I hope the creativity comes back.
just wait till he has serious health issues to pay for as well.

i hope you're right about that, and that SoK was a giant tism magnet whose influence on long-time observers of phil's dysfunction was actually quite minor. it remains to be seen though. i would like to think that not many who have kept up with phil on this thread, for example, longer than they've kept up with SoK would give a shit about SoK's meltdown. put differently, i don't think that SoK produced any phil detractors. they just produced SoK fans. this is just wishful thinking.

as far as direct positive things the SoK meltdown has generated, i'll make a few predictions:
  1. tihydp might get better since people won't be just splicing together long stretches of dumb shit just for a shot at getting on a let's endure stream.
  2. a massive, tangible source of trolling and harassment for phil has been disastrously erased, so he will not have anyone really to blame for his failures anymore. the common theme in all the videos from the ex-members is regret and shame, so it's unlikely that anyone would even want to play the role of trolling phil at that level anymore.
  3. he'll hopefully get some sympathy shekels from this whole fiasco and survive a bit longer because of it. i hate the idea that phil will fail because of sok. that's giving them too much credit.
