Honestly the only two good 40k games I've played besides this were Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Space Marine.
I'm still mad about Deathwing.

there's plenty of cheap warhammer games, it was more about the quality. as shitty as rebellion might be with their DLC practices, their engine runs smooth as butter and especially zombie army 4 got high enough production values it's borderline AAA (whereas 1-3 kinda felt a bit like a cheap mainline offshot). I would expect they could do the same if not more in the warhammer universe. just replace the heroes with a bunch of guards, the zombies with chaos and nids shameless plug to try it, it's almost always on sale somewhereFrom what I understand, GW is super strict with 40k licenses and doesn't really allow devs any leeway.

Deathwing really deserved better than Eurojank. Its honestly a damn shame because the Eurojank guys like Streum On and Fatshark absolutely nail the atmosphere in a way nobody else does but the actual gameplay tends to have no end of issues, whereas with a more "proper" developer the gameplay is somewhat better but the atmosphere is terrible. Spess Mehrine was probably the best combo of both we're ever going to get, even with the dumb-ass melta shotgun Relic gave us.Honestly the only two good 40k games I've played besides this were Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Space Marine.

Darktide with space marines but instead of L4D clone it's a dynasty warriors clone.Which is sad cause even with strict control most of the 40k games have been at the "mediocre" level with a few "hey this is actually pretty good".
Which is sad cause there are soooooooooooo many great ways you can take any gene in 40K besides just Space Marines. Like a Silent Hill type game when some guardsman has to escape a planet getting taken over by Tzeentch, making their own Among Us with Gene Stealers in a ship, Colony Sim on Catachan, etc.
I agree. A 40k game by Rebellion would be pretty good. The thing I like about Zombie Army 4 is that even if it's made for co-op, you can actually play the campaign solo.the more I play zombie army 4 the more I'm disappointed rebellion never grabbed the 40k license to make a warhammer version and the only option is fatshark jank...
Why didn't Deathwing ever take off? I never gave it a shot before but it looks like its deadHonestly the only two good 40k games I've played besides this were Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Space Marine.

I though Mechanicus was pretty good myself, did a good job of getting around the awkwardness of Xcoms dice RNG mechanics.Honestly the only two good 40k games I've played besides this were Dawn of War 1 & 2 and Space Marine.

The only variety I've noticed thus far is a surface level map with the surface being a desertI feel like the map variety is a bit anaemic at the moment, I hope we eventually get some upper hive and ashen wastes stuff in the end. Also desperately needs boss variety, really hope they reverse their position on no Spess Mahreens and add a Plague Marine boss somewhere.

I quite like Throneside, but it only has one variation. A little bit too much metal corridors otherwise, I feel like they really could have done with exploring a bit more of the mega structures aspect of the 40k universe, fuck huge trains and stuff like that, you never really get a sense of scale in what we got.The only variety I've noticed thus far is a surface level map with the surface being a desert
From what I've been hearing others have been having issues as well. With time I assume they'll sort it out but it might be awhileI want to play it, but I might have to move to xbox to do it. Apperantly my PC refuses to run it and is having memory issues and huge FPS spikes. Now its not the top of the line machine but I'm capable of running some new games decently without framerate issues, or memory issues like this game is giving me.
be careful what you wish for, you might end up with a warhammer battle royale. But nope, we got: 60 dollar L4D Clone #2, Diablo Clone from 4 years ago class update, and shitty copy of game #1928438. Also no updates on unshitting their DMCA spamming of Warhammer shit so stuff like TTS is still dead.
yeah, doing a first run solo run currently after picking up the least DLCs, as camp as it is there are some legit unsettling and butt-clenching parts when running around solo. now all I want is that down in a hive city or space hulk (although the open world part are equally great, even if less spoopy).I agree. It's been a while, but from what I remember it was mostly that they nailed the aesthetic, but the gameplay was too jank to really elevate it to being a great game. Which isn't too surprising, since it's the same guys behind EYE: Divine Cybermancy of all games. Space Hulk's slow and plodding, which is one thing as a board game/strategy game, but they didn't really pull it off as an FPS. Throw in low enemy variety, bugs, braindead squadmate AI, and the game just drags down. You can have some fun with friends, but you can do that with pretty much anything, and probably with a more polished lobby/co-op system. Why didn't Deathwing ever take off? Performance issues and really, really repetitive gameplay. All online co-op was was the exact same maps and triggers from SP, now with friends! It was somehow worse than L4D/Darktide/Vermintide in that regard, but at least you had infinite ammo because as what's his face from the Flash Gitz anim said, rending claws make your Terminator armor about as effective as wrapping your dick in a napkin to fuck a chainsword. Why didn't Deathwing ever take off? To be fair, Terminators do plod. They're notoriously slow thanks to all that armor. IIRC they're something like a 5" move in TT compared to a 6" move for normal Spess Mehrines. In older editions with fixed move speeds they were prohibited from engaging in a Sweeping Advance. It's been a while, but from what I remember it was mostly that they nailed the aesthetic, but the gameplay was too jank to really elevate it to being a great game. Wouldn't be surprised if 50% of the game's sales were just because of that one RussianBadger video.
Yeah, it makes sense and fits the material, it's just unfortunately one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" design choices. Do you keep things slow and try to adapt it into a thoughtful, tactical shooter starring guys with crazy sci-fi weapons fighting aliens, or do you speed things up and risk things getting into DoW3 terminator flip territory? I think they made the right call with the former, it's just that the levels didn't help with their massive (lore-friendly) size, stomping between objectives. I don't think it was doomed to fail or anything, but it was an uphill battle, design-wise.To be fair, Terminators do plod. They're notoriously slow thanks to all that armor. Biggest issue with the levels is that they're not just big, but awkwardly so. The trouble with any sort of realistic organic design is you get... a lot of narrow corridors, sudden massive vaulting spaces, and not a whole lot of natural chokepoints or good vantage areas you can use to take down the horde. While its good you're always at some risk of being overwhelmed... its bad in that there's no place to catch a breather and make sure everyone's good to go or even try and set up some sort of position, especially when the mission objective has you holding a point. Its non-stop "They're coming out of the goddamn walls!" time, with very little that can be done to change that sort of affairs.Yeah, it makes sense and fits the material, it's just unfortunately one of those "damned if you do, damned if you don't" design choices.
