Why the fuck not?tumblr actually told the committee behind it that they can't use the word "tumblr" in the name
that's actually pretty sad. Tumblr doesn't even want to be a part of this.tumblr actually told the committee behind it that they can't use the word "tumblr" in the name
Why the fuck not?
well according to one of the early committee members (from this post)Why the fuck not?
Dashcon actually used to be called Tumbl-Con USA. They didn’t want to include Tumblr’s full name so they wouldn’t get sued or anything. In the end Tumblr made them change it because they weren’t affiliated with the con and didn’t want to make it seem so.
not only that but (from this post)so did the night vale people actually get to the location before realizing they weren't going to be compensated, and then leaving?
alsoThe con didn’t have the money to cover WTNV’s transportation and performance fees. When WTNV asked them to pay the remainder of their performance fee prior to the panel beginning, DashCon was unable to do so, and WTNV walked out as they are positively free to do because what the fuck you don’t invite keystone guests if you aren’t able to pay their fees upfront (and showing them your PayPal balance on a smartphone absolutely does not count).
and WTNV weren't the only ones who got stood upStaff tries to start rumors that WTNV was paid and left anyways. No one believes it.
Like Gingerhaze and WTNV, the BakerStBabes are also being forced to pay their hotel fees because DashCon refuses to cover the costs as originally promised. Admins are refusing their calls. You can read more about their experience here.
Funny, you'd figure with their reputation as toxic as it is, they'd be all for it.Because the suits & ties who actually run Tumblr (Yahoo! now I believe), understand the value of not attaching your brand name to a poorly managed con that had red flags waving long before anyone set foot in that hotel room. I'm sure if, in the planning stages, it seemed to a non-biased eye that DashCon would go off without a hitch (or as few hitches as any well run con can in it's infancy) without any of the toxic attitudes that online communities tend to create, they would've been more than happy to allow their brand name on this. But it seemed like it was clearly going to be a train wreck a mile down the tracks, so Tumblr (the corporate entity, not the user base) wisely decided not to board the goddamn train.
The front page of tumblr is called the Dashboard. But of all the names they could have used, why Dash Con? Do they really need to be associated with that other toxic fanbase? One I'm sure you all know about?
It's called DashCon because the main screen of tumblr when you log in is called your Dashboard.Funny, you'd figure with their reputation as toxic as it is, they'd be all for it.

Yes, but it costs like 17,000 Swags. Can we have a ball pit for CWCon?
Well I guess that's explain it. Still doesn't mean it's any less of a stupid name. The front page of tumblr is called the Dashboard.
agreed there.Well I guess that's explain it. Still doesn't mean it's any less of a stupid name.
again, agreed. but i guess they didnt know how to make it seem tumblrish without using the word tumblr.Oh Wilhelm. You beat me too it. It still does sound like a Brony Convention though.
Could have called it something more accurate like Socialcon or "The Non-Specific Gathering of Nerds" (NSGN for short). I'm still convinced that there were Bronies who attended that were disappointed about it not being about their beloved Dashie.again, agreed. but i guess they didnt know how to make it seem tumblrish without using the word tumblr.

Of course, how could I forget?A lot of Tumblrinas are bronies. I posted a picture of one guy earlier in this thread who was running a BDSM booth and had a huge and disgusting gut hanging out of a Rainbow Dash shirt.
