I want to say that I find it so hard to believe that people are still defending the absolute unprofessionalism and shit antics of con staff but then I remember how some communities feel so "you're either with us or against us" and then (:_(

I hate to say it but I'll be ready and waiting with my popcorn bucket when emoti-con's bloated body rolls around.

fucking KNEW North Korea was in on this.....
That feel when North Korea has a better ball pit than Dashcon.

If that was the point the focus should have been on social media, not werewolf vampire drwho sherlockiness.

Both scenarios are terrible.

A "social media" con sounds like an absolute bore. As far as my purely personal opinion goes, a con is interesting (to me) when it caters to the anime/gaming/sci-fi/comic book/cosplay persuasion. It goes without saying that many young people prefer that scene, too. Personal preferences aside, cons in general attract people by being about specific interests that have fandoms. Conventions (that aren't the purely business type) are pretty much meant to be a gathering of a fandom, or related fandoms. Facebook doesn't have a fandom. No one speculates on forums about the exciting twists and turns of Facebook. Who wants to go to a fucking Facebook con?

While "werewolf vampire drwho sherlockiness" sounds god awful to me (and definitely was in practice, as we all saw), it could be done right, in theory, and could be fun to those who like that sort of thing.

I completely agree @Indigo. My point was that the thing didn't seem to have a point. Which imho was the first of many things that were neglected. The business model seems alot like opl's ebay business model. Hold the con using money we make from holding the con. Pay the speakers with money we will possibly get from having these speakers. In some small way I admire their initiative tho. They wanted to do the thing, and by god they did it. They just really should have done it with someone who knew how.

In regards to Dashcon, specifically, I think they wanted to be like San Diego Comic Con, which (despite the name) does not have comic books as its absolute focal point; these days, it's a general pop culture convention. The Dashcon admins wanted something like that, along the lines of "popular culture from the Tumblr perspective."

While that's not an impossibly broad topic to have a con about, they tried to run before they could even crawl. They should have started with a little con, a tiny SuperWhoLock (I guess, ugh) con in a hotel with a smaller conference center, and scale up from there according to attendance and naturally evolve into a big con with a wider focus. They tried to skip over the steps that every surviving established con has taken before them; they tried to be SDCC right away, and that was the core reason it failed spectacularly.

Emoti-con, on the other hand . . . unlike Dashcon, whose theme and estimated attendance would have at least been appropriate for a ~10+ year old convention, I cannot see a "everyone who uses the Internet and likes things!" con attracting people at all. Ever. That IS a serious lack of a point. I get that they can't back out of using the ICC-LOS, but making the same mistake that they made the first time (although it's even worse, because even SDCC ain't that broad) is only going to guarantee that they won't get anywhere near their minimum goal, let alone filling that place up. It's gonna be a sad little ghost town.

Your last sentence there is absolutely spot-on. Dashcon should have had an experienced admin in the first place, and after it flopped Megg and Cain should have searched high and low for a master convention planner or two. Instead they were like "hurr durr naw we got this let's fire Roxanne and we'll be fine. <3"

I know that dashcon is shit, but I could not find a thread about it.

For anyone who does not know what dashcon is, (despite the name that unintentionally implies that it's a brony convention) it's a shitty convention started by tumblr users that had came out really bad. Said convention became notorious for the lack of things which included: "extra hour" in the piss-ballpit, dashcon orgy rumors, and the bouncy castle (thats seriously about it).

Since they are trying to do this again (which will most likely be an even bigger failure as they are upsizing instead of downsizing), I think we should discuss this.

Edit: we need some thread merging with https://kiwifarms.net/threads/dashcon-dash-to-the-extreme.4241/ special thanks to the mod who meged this.

I hope that /pol/lack who got video last time shows up again if they're stupid enough to repeat this bungled con.
I dunno, that guy really irked me. I was glad someone got video from inside but you could actually hear the autism in his voice. He also posted video of him peeing all over the outside of a hotel toilet. That's not cool, it's not like the Dashcon admin were the ones who had to clean it up.

I thought that the company was liquidated after they were unable to pay off their debts? Are there posts about this that you can link or something?

He wasn't the prick they needed, but he was the prick they deserved.

some info dumps on Dashcon 2015

Tumblr is a place for equality, bringing minority groups from obscurity that demand our attention and understanding.

dashcon ‘15 will be a temporary refuge to many groups of people from those that don’t understand them. Otherkin in particular, who are the victims of consistent ridicule.

As such, we are proud to announce discounts for minority groups to help welcome them into an event of equality. All PoC/kin/LBT will receive a 25% discount. Not in those groups? Fret not, as the event is still cheap.
Now with Safespaces and they still have the ballpit!
