Disaster David Hogg gets swatted

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was "swatted" Tuesday morning, causing police to respond to their Parkland home.

A call came into the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming a hostage situation at the home in the 7800 block of Northwest 122nd Way.

Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to find there was no hostage situation and the call was a prank.

Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington, DC with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.

Sky 10 was over the home as units were staged outside as a precaution. BSO responded with multiple crews and a police helicopter.

Swatting is the action of making a prank emergency call to bring about a response of armed law enforcement officers.

Since the shootings at Stoneman Douglas, Hogg has been a prominent advocate for gun safety. However, Hogg has been a lightning rod for controversy as some do not approve of his methods, such as holding a "die in" at a Coral Springs Publix last week.

I lowkey hate that every single time an issue of obvious obnoxious psuedo-military police overreach makes the news someone inevitably finds a way to make it about literally anything other than the fact that cops in this country keep LARPing as SEAL team six with none of the training or discipline.

People of all political stripes should hate the fact that our police is so heavily militarized but instead we keep shifting focus on how we were able to use them to pwn ideological enemies instead of holding the assholes in question in contempt.

Well, Hogg wasn't even there and it really was just total waste of police resources.

Seriously though, swatting him only makes his cause and argument stronger among the exact echo chamber that is propping him up. Yeah, the award is about as silly as the Nobel for Obama, but the fact is that swatting a person's house over a political disagreement is beyond autistic. This is possibly a step below Greta showing up. Although in that case the cow actually had the balls to show up in person. This swatter was a coward.

Yeah, it was obnoxious how much the media has overhyped these survivors, but let's face a simple fact. It is way too easy for utterly crazy people who have no business being out in society to purchase lethal weaponry.

If you all want to say the 2nd amendment justifies crazy people owning guns whenever they want to, you are already engaged in a lost fight. The NRA was stupid to try to fight this battle and you are all nuts for saying this is okay or even justifies this. I would not call it attempted murder like some nuts, but I would say this is really out of line.

The survivors were smart enough to mostly push for moderate reforms like the Red Flag law and increasing the age to purchase a gun to 21. Total gun control or banning is out of reach, period. The only option people have who want any restrictions on guns is to just push for the items that almost no rational person would oppose.

The NRA is used to fighting the idiot libs from the 70's and 80's. This new crop is smart enough not to push for total bans. The NRA needs to update its playbook and adapt to these more gradual approaches or look like idiots who back guns for crazy people. Simply bashing the activists, or in this case rooting for the dipshit who swatted a persons home while they were away, without understanding their approach is going to lead to the activists winning.

While I like the idea of our police being able to throw down hard when it's needed, too many departments jump the gun ( lol) and open fire before the situation has even been established.

Considering police unions have literally set legal precedent that you can be fired for being too smart to be a cop, I don't think most police departments should be trusted to run pseudo-military operations. I barely think they should be trusted with the sidearms they currently have. If they need a SWAT they can call in experts like the National Guard.

As funny as it may look and as much of a tool Hogg may be, swatting is still an incredibly scummy thing to do, no matter how objectionable you may find a person, even moreso when the main victim are people that are, for the most part, unrelated to the entire incident like his family. Plus that, one should already realize how trigger happy and undisciplined the regular cop is, let alone a swat officer with the better toys they get to do cool stuff with. Thankfully no one got hurt, but what the fuck were the swatters thinking would get accomplished? None of this helps anything or anyone
