CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was "swatted" Tuesday morning, causing police to respond to their Parkland home.

A call came into the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming a hostage situation at the home in the 7800 block of Northwest 122nd Way.

Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to find there was no hostage situation and the call was a prank.

Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington, DC with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.

Sky 10 was over the home as units were staged outside as a precaution. BSO responded with multiple crews and a police helicopter.

Swatting is the action of making a prank emergency call to bring about a response of armed law enforcement officers.

Since the shootings at Stoneman Douglas, Hogg has been a prominent advocate for gun safety. However, Hogg has been a lightning rod for controversy as some do not approve of his methods, such as holding a "die in" at a Coral Springs Publix last week.

ILL SHOW YOU SOY BOY THAT GUN CONTROL IS FUCKING GAY BY ATTEMPTING TO MURDER YOU WITH GUNS IN AN ACCIDENTAL SHOOTING!!

Lol. Good optics

Eh, I guess you could say "The people you're saying exist so we no longer need personal protection are the ones we might need to be arming ourselves against" if you wanted to take the prepper stance

If you all want to say the 2nd amendment justifies crazy people owning guns whenever they want to, you are already engaged in a lost fight. The NRA was stupid to try to fight this battle and you are all nuts for saying this is okay or even justifies this. I would not call it attempted murder like some nuts, but I would say this is really out of line.
Not selling guns to known crazy people is already the law. Brady Bill. The only reason people think the NRA support repealing that law and/or advocating guns for crazy people is people like Hogg and his handlers putting words in their mouth. This is part of the reason people fucking hate him. He's a propaganda mouthpiece. Swatting him is still a dick move though.

The NRA, for the record, fully supports the NICS (FBI background checks) and recommends strengthening it's database and reporting to keep firearms out of the hands of nutjobs.

As much as I think he's a punk kid who's literally only being pushed for this shit is because he's, well, a kid, no one deserves a prank swatting.

But trust me on this. because it "happened to a kid" when it's happened to plenty of people already, Swatting is gonna be the next big thing they're gonna advocate against, because now that it's happening to children (and not the countless people who are harmlessly playing video games, cooking, etc.) it's become a problem.

Very true. This whole thing is a complicated discussion and the sides positions are not simple to understand. The NRA has had a number of attempts to push certain actually broaden the effectiveness of these background checks and it was Libs Gun Control activists who prevented them because they did not want to give up the right to have more restrictive gun regulations in their own blue states.

The problem is that the Brady Bill is not comprehensive enough or really effective enough. We have seen too many incidents lately of it not working as intended.

The left used Hogg as a type of bait and the NRA was too used to fighting the activists who were total gun control. It failed. They lured the NRA into fighting the losing fight of defending the rights of crazy people to own guns. It has only gone down hill from there.

Making this more of a fight against overly sanctimonious liberal hypocrisy and inflexibility would have been much more effective. It requires a more deft hand and more skill than the representatives put out to the public had.

The survivors had pieces like this where they stated their position:

Besides the ban on high velocity semiautomatic weaponry or the age 21 rule, I can't find anything in that to disagree with. Most rational people can't either. That is a real problem. You can't fight them like the old gun control crowd. If you don't give up some ground to the rational items, you just look like a person trying to allow guns to be in the hands of any crazy whackjob.

Please don't get mad at the internet. It's just a youngin'.
I don’t like David Hogg or his friends. It hurts my brain to read the stupidity that comes out of his mouth and watching the media and politicos fawn over him.

I prefer adult conversations and debate around serious topics like gun control and bullying. Not twitter hot takes and die-ins.

>Gets mad at barely 18 year olds who survive school shootings.

You're just fucking with me, right?

Thats a really dumb argument.

I knew a Sgt who got fucked up when a mortar round went off near him and took his leg below the knee while in Iraq.

He then became a massive leftie pacifist who actually tried to encourage people to hand over classified military info to Iran/Insurgents/etc.

Just because he survived a horrible thing that will probably effect his entire life from that point on doesn't excuse his dumb and even treasonous words/actions afterwards.

They have just repackaged the same anti-gun stuff they have pushed since the 90's. The language hasn't even changed much either.

2018
These weapons were designed for dealing death: not to animals or targets, but to other human beings.
1994
Arguing against Mr. Brooks's motion, Mr. Schumer said there was no reason for anyone to have these assault weapons, whose only purpose, he said, is "to kill as many people as quickly as possible."

It's the AWB, magazine capacity, gun registry, elimination of legal private sales, giving another gov't bureaucracy regulatory powers, and age to purchase restrictions all rolled into one. The only thing different this time around is they want to fund more mental health initiatives, change reporting requirements, and school security.

Guess which measures the NRA agree with and which ones they oppose?

Hogg and Co are just the fresh coat of paint on the same old agenda.
