CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. - The family of Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School student David Hogg was "swatted" Tuesday morning, causing police to respond to their Parkland home.

A call came into the Broward Sheriff's Office claiming a hostage situation at the home in the 7800 block of Northwest 122nd Way.

Coral Springs Fire Rescue arrived at the scene to find there was no hostage situation and the call was a prank.

Hogg was not home at the time of the incident and is currently in Washington, DC with his mother to accept the RFK Human Rights award.

Sky 10 was over the home as units were staged outside as a precaution. BSO responded with multiple crews and a police helicopter.

Swatting is the action of making a prank emergency call to bring about a response of armed law enforcement officers.

Since the shootings at Stoneman Douglas, Hogg has been a prominent advocate for gun safety. However, Hogg has been a lightning rod for controversy as some do not approve of his methods, such as holding a "die in" at a Coral Springs Publix last week.

Swatting is fucked up and I can't think of any justifications for it; not only are you putting somebody and their family in horrible danger, but you're wasting the police's time from helping an actual situation that could be going on at the same time. Despite this, I can't help but be amused by this event, since Hogg declared a meme war just a week ago. You should be ready for the worst if you're going to try to have a "war" against the internet as a whole, just look at what happened to Shia LaBeouf's "art project" last year.

The cops are also in danger. Any time guns come out there's the possibility of someone in the vicinity getting shot either accidentally or on purpose.

Just because you might think the kid's a dumbass, or at least misguided, doesn't mean he deserves being put in danger (swatting attempts have gone seriously wrong), wasting tax payer resources, wasting the police's time, etc. That's who you're really punishing.

TP his house, or stick with the flaming bags of dog shit. Don't involve the cops -- they have enough real shit to worry about.

There's a lot here to unpack.

I loathe Hogg; to me he looks disturbingly like a reincarnated Joseph Goebbels. What comes out of his mouth could be used to fertilize fields, except it's poisonous and would probably kill anything you planted.

The larger 'gun control' issue is perpetually distorted by statists who don't see any problem in doing so 'if it saves one child'. Of course, if people had actually been doing their JOBS in Broward County they'd have saved a number of children. Look up the 'Promise Program' sometime -- law enforcement and educational authorities were diverting teenagers accused of actual, serious crimes away from the court system into school disciplinary measures. So the argument of 'we need more background checks' holds no water with me at all. We HAD background checks in Broward County, but they didn't work, because exceptional individuals decided too many people of certain racial backgrounds were getting arrested.

(Fun fact: Treyvon Martin was also a beneficiary of a similar program in Miami-Dade County. He was picked up with a bag of stolen jewelry and a screwdriver, but was released and never charged. Oops.)

Couple this with the multiple existing court cases that have determined that police have no obligation to protect you, the individual from harm? They don't have to lift a finger, and they can't even be sued for misconduct or just wasting the taxpayer's dime by sitting on their asses.

Damn straight I'm not giving up my firearms.

I think there's probably more we could do about guns, but I don't think that's end all and be all, and it's not going to solve every problem. I think what's really the problem is why our culture is so fucking obsessed with them. THAT'S the real gun problem. I cut Hogg a little slack because a.) he's still young and b.) he went through some pretty traumatic shit. We were all stupid at that age.
But we also do a real disservice to these troubled kids when we wait until they're already planning on shooting up the schools. It's not about ignoring guns -- it's about helping kids. I can't imagine who'd be against that. But that's easier said than done.

(The thing about the mentally ill though is that most are likely to be a target of violence, rather than be violent themselves, sadly)

I thought he was planning to shoot up a school himself.

He seems the type who would have eventually done so himself, he also has an entitlement complex that would make Elliot Rodger cringe in absolute disgust.

I don't agree with the method employed in this case, but David Hogg can go fuck himself. He's an annoying opportunist being used as a pawn by idiotic leftist social justice warrior jackoffs, and is too stupid to realize his real role on the chess board.

People need to stop feeding this worthless attention whore. Regardless of your position on gun rights/control/whatever.

I'm calling it now:

Once he's been out of the spotlight for a few years, he'll be doing gay porn.

Whatever gets poor little Hogg the attention he demands. I honestly wouldn't be surprised if he called in the swatting himself (or had an affiliate do it), after all, he wasn't home at the time.

This.

Also we've seen false swats go wrong. And pay outs.

God forbid and the only thing I could picture funnier is Hogg taking Dad's duck gun and putting buck shot in a cops vest and tummy. Then having to deal legally with being in the right defending against the false swat.

I want to throw this kid in a locker and punch him. But Swatting isn't cool. But the ween in me says I'd love to hold him down after shooting a PO in self defense and then him ranting anti gun as clearly retard doesn't mind cops letting his friends being shot to change his mind on gun debate.

. I think what's really the problem is why our culture is so fucking obsessed with them

Going to have to disagree with this part of your assessment.

It only looks like obsession because compared to the rest of the world, America is unique in that it's a large, wealthy, industrialized country where citizen firearm ownership is largely unregulated and people have the money to indulge in it.

There's a billboard I pass on my way to work every day with a ten-foot tall pistol on it, because it's advertising for a local gun shop. A cynic or moral-panicker would say it's proof we're obsessed with guns and aren't as "civilized" as, insert-random-other-country here.... well, they don't HAVE gun shops in those countries, so you don't see ads for them, because they don't exist. Oh, and a couple of the "bullet points" on that same billboard advertise the same shop offers gun safety classes, instruction and gun safes... it's not like it says "Get your gun and start blastin' punks today!" I've had more fellow Americans try and dress me down for the existence of that sign than the actual European exchange students we hosted who saw it, and didn't even blink.

Firearms are a hobby and a privilege here, and to anyone who comes from a place where such is restricted, normal hobbyist devotion, no more rabid than you see among model train or Star Wars film enthusiasts, can easily be spun to look like some kind of moral savagery. Or how the NRA opposing regulation is any different than wanting to fight the government trying to regulate your hobby for the "good" of everyone. Same way car hobbyists like me don't care for the government stepping in and telling us where and when we can drive our cars and what mods we can and can't do to them in the name of lowering pollution and making everyone "safer".

Guess them Duke Boys turned the table on that bastard by getting Rosco to execute a dang search warrant on his place from the sound of it. They were just a couple boys, didn't mean no harm.

On a serious note, is it possible that getting swatted or police called enough that they would ignore a call to a place that is known to be a frequent fake call place? Or do cops have to answer every 911 call? I know they aren't obligated to protect certain individuals with that Supreme Court case but would they get into trouble for ignoring a 911 call? See a smart person looking to kill someone would use that to help make a 911 call go ignored. I mean granted anyone smart wouldn't be that stupid to kill people.

I bet Nikolas Cruz did it.
I think he might have Thundergunned the shit out of Hogg, maybe La Goblina is next.

With how many fake "hate crimes" happen these days I wouldn't be surprised if David himself or one of his leftist handlers called it in. Then again he did try to act tough towards some of the biggest weens on the internet, so either/or I guess.
It might honestly be them doing it themselves. Hogg is fading from the limelight and this would make sense to help make him stay relevant long enough for the 2018 election.

I'm going to add to the growing pile of "swatted himself" projections. I mean, it's pretty much par for course for SJWs desiring high-profile attention to fake hate crimes against themselves, like the teacher who painted a swastika on her own car, or the many assholes caught sending themselves threats from ghost accounts.

I'm going to add this. I should've mentioned it in my remarks about Hoggy before, and I didn't. :autism:

I hate swatting. I view it as attempted assault with a deadly weapon. The fact that the weapon is an amped-up police team is irrelevant. So yeah, regardless of how dickless Dave makes my fingers twitch, swatting is absolutely wrong.

That being said, the idea of him swatting himself... I can't discount the possibility. There have been a number of faux 'hate crimes' where it was discovered the 'victim' spun the whole thing up for various reasons.

As far as I know, all 911 calls must be responded to.

The place I worked some time ago would constantly deal with "ghost 911 calls." Essentially, glitches in the 911 system would make it to where dispatch would receive a 911 call from a random address with no one on the other line and cause an immediate hang up.

No matter what, even though we know they're not actual 911 calls, we'd have to go respond because if you didn't respond that one time when something happened, you're fucked.
