David, just pick up a package of crayons at your local dollar store and a flipbook sketchpad and draw something. It would have the same style of artwork and it would actually be more fun/ interactive than your previous game.

I feel quite bad for David in that last set of tweets. Feeling stuck in a shit job, impoverished, with no options is a horrid place to be - stressful but boring, familiar but unbearable, killing yet sustaining you.
Some advice for you David: take a sketchpad and a pen and a little pocket book of short stories with you on your commute. Write, read, draw, plan game ideas, whatever - just use your mind in a creative and thoughtful way. In the evening give up a little time to learn something small but new each day. Work hard at your job, and at home work towards reasonable and achievable targets you set yourself (eg applying for X jobs or reading and understanding X chapters of a programming book per month). Take pride in small things - for me that's often something like cooking a meal better than before. And above all else stop immersing yourself in the toxic world of your acquaintances' social media. Walk away, decompress, work towards being more tolerant and less reactionary. You'll find things looking up before long.

David is so depressed because he genuinely thought good things would come from hitching his wagon to Zoe's and Nora's stars. He thought he'd become the King of the Nu-Males and it would help make up for being in a relationship that doesn't make him happy while working a dead-end job after his foray into making games got him fired. He had high hopes.
Now he's stuck in a vicious clusterfuck that he cannot criticize or leave. He trashes Ian so much because he longs to escape this nest of vipers but is too afraid. He lacks the balls to become a subject of ire.
He knows that if he ever speaks in a manner less than glowing about anyone in that miserable cabal of life failures he will be savaged. That bareassed pic he sent around will suddenly become an act of rape if he ever insinuates that Zoe's a talentless whore, that Nora's a woman, that Brianna used to be a dude or that Arthur Chu is the greatest measure of how much God hates His creations. They will take every foible he engaged in since he grew his first pube and turn it into an overt act against transPOC whatevers and will actively interfere in his work and personal life until they destroy him. He is depressed because his ability to continue having any sort of connection to others online is held in the balance by self-righteous psychopaths who will drive him off Twitter while calling him a pedophile because he once liked a YouTube video involving a child or once brushed against a teenager on the subway.
He's trapped by people who are worse than he is.
And he needs to be careful speaking to Nora about vibrators. He's giving her and others like her ammunition to show how creepy and problematic he is once he falls from grace. And that will happen - that has to add to his depression, the wrenching anxiety of not knowing when he will accidentally set them off makes it impossible for him to enjoy down time. He can't listen to a book on tape or draw during his commute. He has to monitor Twitter and participate in dog piles and stupid behavior so that he may live another day.
