The first lantern of his universe is Gay Gardner, Hal is obviously set up to never show up again and job to the nigger and Fillion has been one of the go-to fancasts for Hal for years, even voiced him in the N52 movies. It’s like including the hot chick of the Authority in Superman and making her ugly, it’s spite.

Plus Gunn’s cuck hipster preferences make him disinclined to Hal on default, like with Superman. He’s also an imposter “fan” and likley got all he knows from Bruce Timm’s Sonichu cartoon, hence going straight to the insufferable nigger lantern.

Top Gun and Maverick are the greatest Green Lantern live action media and it’s going to stay that way.

Oh Hal sucks, but he’s at least a character, unlike Stewart who’s either a boring generic and joyless nigger or Dwayne Mcduffie’s self-insert coincidentally getting with the white redhead.

Gunn hates the strong, charismatic white leads comics were built on and his shit is hipster garbage, always has been.

It’s why Starlord is a child despite being forty+, it’s why Peacemaker sucks cock, it’s why Supes cries like a vagina over comments (projection), hell it’s probably why Lex got cucked.

It’s why he should never have been given control over the whole universe. Thankfully it looks like more things will get cancelled and his universe is likely stillborn, which he deserves for his crime against my second-favourite member of the Authority.

Enter James Gunn. He decided to refocus the series as a Earth-based detective story that tied into his wider vision for the Superman/Peacemaker/Etc. universe. Which I shall call the DC Poo for short.

do you think costs might have been another part of it? Green Lantern would always be the biggest budget slop of all the heroes. his powers are entirely construct based. either you do that really cheaply and get mocked for it like the ryan reynolds movie or you don't show them at all. its arguably the biggest one you can't really do well in live action

HEY! Lay off my man John Steward! Also, being Dwayne's self-insert, you still end up a better character than Gunn could ever write. I remember how he refused to break up with Vixen even when he saw a future in which he had a child with Hawkgirl. He stood on principle.

I wouldn't say that he hates them. He just cannot imagine writing them. His heroes are manchildren because he is one. He makes stupid jokes that middle schoolers would find funny and witty and everyone else is disgusted by. When a 13 yo yells rape jokes over X-Box Live, you aren't going to be impressed by it but you will not give much of a thought about either. When a grown ass man does it, it is far less forgiving. You are supposed to know better. He does not hate the paragons. He just cannot imagine being them. He has a hard time imagining that level of responsibility and how to his humor takes away from the weight of scenes. I think that Chris Pratt and John Cena knew how to play these characters far better and Supes ended up being played by a guy who cannot make up for Gunn's flaws as a director.

When would they do it, Hal doesn’t appear that often in outside media.

Warner killed the GL brand outside of small cameos and Injustice throughout the 2010s. Before then, what would have been his biggest role was taken by Stewart to give the JL a black character. Otherwise, he had 1-2 time appearances in The Batman and Batman B&TB.
His only major roles were his film, which bombed, and the animated series that ended up being a casualty of the film. He has never made it far enough to pull off the evil arc.

Warner has had a bit of a hate boner for GL since the Reynold’s film. They explicitly removed the brand from big DC projects for awhile - most notably both the JL movie and cartoon of the 2010s lacked Lantern outside of small roles. The LEGO Movie even tried to rewrite GL as being an Aquaman tier punching bag.

There is definitely an unease at Warner when it comes to doing anything major with the character since they screwed up his first movie. This series is almost a shitty response to it, blatantly trying to remove the franchise killer (Hal) to be replaced by the normie friendly Stewart. The lack of big CG also seems like a deliberate response.

It’s not for everyone and the poofs overshadow the rest of the team, but the Authority really is fun at times. This is the censored version, the original line was “ethnic-shrapnel.”

They really are just a lefty version of the Crime Syndicate.

Gunn denied us the kino of Ultraman being the wingnut Homelander is larping as.

Ultraman smoking kryptonite like crack to power-up and having a dad whose messages post-death were, “women are a distraction, you are an idiot, I have given you kryptonite, do not waste it, be the best or be nothing at all,” is some of the best dark comedy DC ever did.

Owlman steals the show for the Syndicate but I love Ultraman, he’s such a sadistic moron, like if Clark Kent was one of the guys from “Pain and Gain.”

Oh look, a show made by people who hate The Green Lantern, for people who will never even consider opening a GL comic book, that looks like the people involved, despite hating the character, don't actually know what the Green Lantern franchise even is or about in the first place.
