Amen to that. Jim Carrey tried his damnest to emulate as The Riddler, but execution wise, he's just playing himself in a few previous roles he was in that it's completely distracting. I'd say John Glover, Robert Englund and Wally Wingert were really good Riddlers (at least if we're counting voice roles), but they're still no Gorshin
 
it was always a green arrow show. it was supposed to be a Justin Hartley led spin off of Smallville (which coincidentally was a Batman show being developed but Aronofsky's Batman Year One movie was in development so WB vetoed any Batman origin stuff.)

Ironically enough, Green Arrow on Smallville was originally supposed to be Batman too which is why he also behaves more like the Grim Knight than the Emerald Archer, especially early on in the show.

I'd go further and say that most people's perceptions of Batman are solidly based in the late DCAU era where he becomes almost completely cold and "focused on the mission" (specifically in JL/JLU). Early DCAU Batman was considerably more human and approachable.

yeah I love smallville dearly, but it's a big time and place nostalgia thing over quality. the show isn't completely terrible but it wouldn't have been a good jumping off point for a shared universe and Hartley's Ollie I like, but couldn't have carried a show imo. I remember the forums going nuts with disappointment when it became its own thing and I was basically the only guy like "good it'll have less of a chance of sucking if it is it's own show"

The show did go downhill at a little in the middle seasons and that little Russian guy was wholly unconvincing as a Russian mobster. But the show picked up again and imo it ended on a high.

The Deathstroke guy I thought did pretty good with the material he was given, and Merlyn is a useless literal who in the comics and they made him interesting and actually kinda cool and the actor did a lot of the heavy lifting. I hated Canary & Felicity though. looking back, all of those CW shows could have and would have been way better if they didn't have the mandated CW relationship drama that goes on too long and does nothing for the plot. Part of this was Smallville's influence, and part of it is the CWs target audience so they lean into it but really that shit is what makes the whole CWverse borderline unwatchable to go back to having seen it before.

Yeah, I remember people on those forums hyping up they were doing Batman tied in to Lex's past and their fathers would know each other and then season 5? 6 maybe, it's green arrow and everyone was like this sucks they aren't even pretending he wasn't supposed to be batman lol I'm glad they did that though now, because without it Arrow wouldn't have gotten made and Green Arrow himself got a little astroturfed into a mainstream character through Smallville and Arrow and that's fine with me. the biggest problem Smallville had especially by the end is they did shit different for the sake of it, not because they needed to or wanted to. this is also prevalent in the sequel comics. by the time they get to Batman, Wonder Woman, and Constantine in the season 11 comic books they are reinventions for absolutely no reason other than it's smallville so everyone is a reinvention.

That, as well as The Lone Ranger and Mars Needs Moms are also comparable for Disney's same level of failures as the two. Not only can't Disney figure out why they're losing money, but even insiders and analysts also can't figure out why 2023 was, all and all, an unprofitable year. Some issues regarding this might be pointing to the writers and actors strike that both happened during the summer, but this isn't really the case. Major corpos care less about talent and more about money and nepotism

Awwww, but I liked John Carter. It was a fun movie. I sincerely believe that the marketing department forcing a name change from "John Carter of Mars" (the novel title) genuinely harmed it. It made it invisible to sci-fi fans and deceptive to non-Sci-Fi fans. I mean, what the fuck does "John Carter" tell you about a movie? John Wick can get away with it because it has Keanu Reeves, a big marketing budget and is in a genre where that works. John Carter? What's that.

Sorry, rant over. I'm not saying the movie is high art but it's fun and didn't deserve to fail that badly.

wow everything I didn't want in one fucking picture. ugly ass the boys tv costume, complete with overdesigned new52 shit, out of shape looking superman, vegeta shooting a galic gun at an unseen goku, superman looking pathetic like lois just cucked him and made him watch with a race swapped bull jimmy olsen, superman dilly dallying around not stopping shit. fantastic guys, just fantastic.
