The CGI here looks like ass. 1000007164.jpg

At this point, I genuinely wish they'd put their money where their mouth was and got Elliot Page to play Superman.

That would have been so funny.

I liked the dog but the movie itself looks like shit. It looks cheap and the costumes look god fucking awful. the effects I can pass because its a trailer and they work on that until the release date, but why does it just look so bad? using the old music isn't really working for me but again I'd have to hear that in the bigger context. that said I don't want to see a supercuck movie where he gets shit on and his ass beat.

I mean of course you have to have the hero get in trouble but I don't think it's particularly good advertisement to get me excited to see a guy I want to see win be fucked up lying on the ground like a pathetic failure for my first exposure to this version

I'm not going to say i have faith in him but James' entire filmography is him juggling a dozen interesting characters, they're going to have a few minutes of screentime at most besides a select few. having said that the leaks from /tv/ sound like shit

it's also inherently kind of funny to me, that for years people have constantly complained about snyder superman being a sad mopey fuck and their first advertisement for this movie, is just superman looking like a sad mopey fuck. seriously the whole trailer he never looks anything but unhappy. first he obviously got beat up by something, and then we see a couple of saves and stuff which of course in the heat of the moment you're not going to be smiling or anything you've got shit to do saving people, but then we just see people yelling and throwing shit at him while he looks miserable. without outside context I'd assume this is just more snyder shit where everybody hates superman including himself. actually it might just end up being that anyways. wack. sorry for the screenshot sizes because I just cut and snipped so they're not consistent, but look every single shot of clark in this trailer he looks absolutely miserable.

Nothing in the trailer looked bad, but nothing got me on board yet. Lot of movie trailers have unfinished CGI nowadays, so going to wait for footage close to release to judge that part.

i get the impression the krypto sceneis after some fight or event (classic one is always someone launches a nuke at superman), since i dont think fucking off home would be something superman would do regardless of how injured he is if there some villain who kicked his ass running around unchecked.

exactly, Snyder's trailer felt like modern myth making with the speech and the flight and all that, this feels very poor man's snyder. I was expecting it to be light and poppy, and have some jokes. Remember the original superman? some nigger pimp going "damn cracker, that some fly shit you b wearing" and him making quips to the person he's saving and silly stuff like that.

Like i honestly assumed Gunn's trailer would have "sunshine superman" and some silly moments throughout, but this feels like the usual slop.

I was predicting “We Didn’t Start the Fire” to Clark doing the Mister Incredible “Showtime” bit.

This is so much worse, it’s Black Adam all over again

Part of the reason I was optimistic that they really were trying something new was the juxtaposition of Superman, this all-powerful god-like hero, laying in the snow broken and bleeding, which implies he's been in some incredible traumatic fight and got his ass kicked by a vastly superior foe (Superman doesn't bleed!) - which is a very dark, Snyder-esque conceit - and his response is to have his dog come to rescue him - which is really sweet and quite light-hearted and a bit silly, and the sort of thing you'd never see in a Snyder movie, probably because and he has the mentality of a 14 year old boy and he'd think it was lame and gay.

They’re speedrunning Kingdom Come, the trappings of it are all throughout the trailer.

Where it fails is at the start, Superman gets knocked down all the time by life, foes, circumstance, you name it, only thing is he gets back up, he doesn’t run. Now granted, sometimes he has help, from Lois (the actress is 1:1 comic Lois that deserves recognition), his folks, Jimmy, Batman, even the Metropolis PD.

But Superman gets back up, spits out some blood, cracks a grin, maybe drops a platitude or a one-liner and gets back in there and kicks ass.

“Nuh-uh Superman is hope for our species.”

He’s a kind stranger who does good and steps in when nobody else is gonna, that’s the core inspiration for the character and Gunn is continuing the Morrison (which this is clearly inspired by) overblowing of Superman’s goal.

You ever have a stranger help you when you needed it for no reason other than it was the right thing? Congratulations, you met Clark.

yeah I mean I don't want an overly comedic goofball take but just as the first trailer I totally expected it would be basically a giant neon sign that says IT'S NOT ANOTHER SNYDER MOVIE!! but it just looks like the same shit, only with shittier visuals and he's got a dog now. the original movie's comedy bits work as well as they do because they basically just take superman as goofy as he inherently is and shove him into manhattan of 1978, I'm hoping here it's kinda like that. that said just because it would be funny that they basically have entirely spoke about this as a course correction to snyderman it would crack me up if this actually was just like mos or bvs again. I want a good superman movie but if they aren't giving me that it would just be absolutely insane if they somehow made the literal exact same mistakes again.

on one hand I am glad that it seems like it is not going to be a total joke filled piece of shit, but it also literally had like no dialogue in it and maybe that was on purpose. the suit still looks terrible but I'll give it a chance. I'm sure if nothing else, it will be like Snyder's movies and Superman Returns where in a vacuum I like certain scenes but mostly write it off. at least I know if this is terrible they'll just never bother trying to make a Superman movie again and I can continue my life in peace.

That Tweet I saw making the rounds a while back, about how “films are shot with everything centered so every trailer+clip can be viewed in phone portrait mode for tiktok/instagram now”, once you see that pointed out, you can't unsee it. So, boy, am I seeing that with this trailer.

>superman looking mopey again
>too many characters again
>strong superman returns vibes
>still aping john williams' music
>clip of superman getting his ass kicked #12867741 (why are they even bothering to talk about how powerful he is when they barely ever show it)
>nicholas hoult looks even less convincing as luthor than eisenberg did, at least the former had the zuckerberg menace energy about him
>krypto and the various super-pets have always been shit concepts and here is no exception
>the casting for lois lane looks awful

I can't believe that I'm actually missing Snyder's stuff now.

It is insane how they continue to remake the same two films over and over again. You can literally do anything with Superman, you can drop him in the Wild West or mad max and it’s great because he doesn’t require the supports/settings of other superheroes, he doesn’t need a gothic city with very specific requirements or tall buildings to web to. Anything could be done with him as a character and they insist on redoing the same two movies over and over. Superman (1978) is a masterpiece, Superman II is the KOTOR II of movies, a tragically flawed masterpiece that took years to reach it’s full potential and the Donner cut is still jank, yet the TWO modern Superman films insisted on remaking them and we now have a THIRD, this one throwing them all together with C-listers.

If this is as bad as I think it’s gonna be, I might just spite-write my Superman golden age ideas, I’m that sick of this bullshit.
