It's funny how the writers sidestepped the whole "human sacrifice" thing by pushing it all onto Joka. Everyone else does the "safe" parts of the Aztec religion, but all Joka does is human sacrifice*, and then it ends badly and he goes mad. Oops. But don't worry, Aztecs are totally chill people!

*Except for one random scene where the Aztecs offer slaves ready to be sacrificed, that Cortez gently refuses, enraging the bad guys for not accepting their gifts.
Oh right, the movie doesn't talk about the whole slavery system the Aztecs had going on.

I find it funny how this is half a movie banking on having a second part. The villains all get away to try again, Joker was basically a side story that only contributed to killing the guy the villains were probably going to kill anyway, and nothing is resolved outside of Bruce accepting Barbados Bat God as his lord and saviour. 90% of the fights in this movie is 'Group A attack Group B. Neither side gains or loses anything. Group A flees.'

I love how they tip toe around the sacrifices. Like, the Aztecs are presented as the oh-so peaceful and generous people who are naive to the white man's evil intentions and do everything to appease them - oh, there's Joker ripping out someone's heart - they're a loving people who just want to get along and share their culture - a line of dialogue is the kind-hearted king basically going "Damn it, Joker, it's always sacrifices with you; you're making things weird. Go to the mountains and file for unemployment."

Is the Plague Doctor in the ending stinger supposed to be Penguin?

They almost kind of explain this by saying "Oh yeah, the difference between the good gods and the bad ones are that the good ones are pedantic assholes who'll never give you a direct answer." which is even more hilarious.

I don't think Gunn will ever be allowed to make a Batman film in his DCU with him running things like this. WB won't risk a cashcow like Batman on someone like Gunn making a Batman & Robin tier disaster that ruins the characters image, especially when they already have a well liked version with the Reevesverse.

Only two shows and one film in and Gunn has managed to make a more politically obnoxious tone than anything the MCU has produced. I would not be shocked if a leftist commits a mass shooting/assassination at some point while wearing a G.I. Robot shirt.

Most predictable reveal in basically anything ever, Gunn is such a dull unoriginal writer his shit may as well be AI generated. 15 different projects about misfits forming a team each one beat for beat the exact same as the last. Muh nazis. Muh white people bad. Everyone put on your DC merch and stab to death the nearest ukrainian girl.
