Fuck if I know, he only writes about them though. Back in the day when it was sort of a big deal to have a dyke in a mainstream dc comic, I didnt mind it too much because for that kind of thing it was a little restrained, mainly just to not let the controversy get too big around it. Nowadays though not only does every comic already have token lesbians or some other form of gay spectrum character, and he can do whatever he wants with it, its really over the top fetishist and annoying as fuck.

I always thought Rucka was serviceable, not my favorite but I liked his work well enough that I didnt run away when I saw his name, but I didnt follow him either. Years ago now, when Bendis was on Superman he did a Lois Lane miniseries at the same time, and it was when I was really like wow this guy fucking sucks now. He's got his favorite pet character, the Montoya Question in there as the sidekick, and literally all she does the whole series is say "damn she's hot" at every single other woman in the story.

I was like damn I really miss when they only let him write her under huge editorial supervision where he had to actually have character and story beyond "porn lesbian" where her purpose is to say she wants to fuck every other woman she sees while he jerks off with whatever hand he doesn't write with.
 
for the record im not a huge Renee Montoya fan, but i dont dislike the character. I know with Kiwis it's general a 50/50 whether youre like me or entirely anti- it, but i dont actually have a problem with gay characters really. My problem is with poor writing or sacrificing the character for their sexuality. (I will say there is never going to be a Trans character that sells me unless its like such a brazen parody who hangs themselves or something and it it's played so straight it goes over the head of people)

But anyways. Its been years and years since I read Gotham Central, 52, crime bible or Batwoman, so maybe I have rose tinted glasses on, but I dont remember Renee being a full on porn lesbian personality wise. Maybe she might have a one liner here or there but to my recollection she didnt act like Stifler from American Pie. And for that matter, why are these people who are so for this representation bullshit okay with that?

Being a weird creepy pervert, is still being a weird creepy pervert just because you aren't carrying a cock in your draws. (Double that if you're carrying a cock and dressed like a chick)

but anyways I feel like her and Maggie Sawyer (the other og resident dyke of the DCU) were like fully fledged characters who happened to be lesbians. What happened to that? In Renee's case its obvious Rucka was jerking off all along and hes just doing what he always wanted to do with her, and make her a frat boy lesbian who only thinks about fucking. If I was queer I think id be kind of offended by this type of portrayal especially at the sacrifice of what had came before.

what's Rucka's deal anyways? Is it like a (RIP) kingcobrajfs thing where hes so aggressively not gay he can only watch porn without dicks in it? he's literally got an entire career built around fetishing lesbians, for 25 years straight.

There was a time when I really liked Midnighter regardless of his orientation; he was compelling and made true bastards shit themselves trying to get the fuck away from him. I stopped giving a shit what they do with him around the Worlds' End stuff for Wildstorm, and I started to downright dislike him when they folded him into DC and had him ogling Nightwings' ass. And I started to hate him when DC had him in a pride comic acting as security with Apollo for a fucking Pride Parade/Protest.

This guy went from killing military bases of armed guards with his hands and punching holes in bulletproof posthumans to standing around a bunch of faggots with signs watching out for heckin' chuds.

What the absolute fuck, DC?

That design is fucking hilarious. It's like one of the diversity OCs on Super Friends was a tranny. They should've called him Speedrunner or something. I hope they make him canonically the physically strongest female superhero.

I forgot he was the one who did that death of Ra's book when I was a kid that had Nyssa and shit. You know what's funny? He created all these batman characters that only went on to have a life outside of him on terrible CW shows, and half of them didnt even make it into Batman related shows.

This is a great example, me too. Funny story, when I was 15 I was reading the Authority or something, and my friend pointed at him on the cover and was like who's that dude? And I explained him and I went he's actually gay though, but he's still cool. and my friend said, what, like Tom Cruise? and so Tom Cruise and Midnighter are intrinsically linked in my brain.

Regardless, it seems like a case of giving an inch they take a mile, if you give a mouse a cookie, but it's if you give a faggot a feature. when these characters were more taboo they were handled much better, because they had to be. But as the years have went by and dumber writers took the reigns, or the original writers got more freedom, they've devolved into horny parodies of themselves.

I dont even mind a little bit of that as long as it's somewhat consistent with the character, but it isn't. they've turned these characters into people that aren't just gay but they spend more time lusting after others than being superhuman heroes or villains and doing action stuff. Imagine being on the Justice League and youre fighting an intergalactic war or something, but with the annoying dyke from your mandated high school theater class who's pick me go-to move is to holler about other chick's asses all day.

I'd be sold on the character if they did that, they should give him a miniseries where he does shit like go into the women's bathroom and makes regular chick superheroes uncomfortable and thats the type of thing he deals with, Wonder Woman and Starfire complaining they feel uncomfortable with him in their JLA shitter.

Also, Shampoo? They had a major hit in Britain when they were kids which was insanely catchy. I have literally never heard a single other song by them ever. Everyone of a certain generation in Bongland knows it. They were also apparently "big in Japan" for reasons I will not speculate about.


Hollywood only understands Nostalgia, not new things.

I disagree but only because the character isn't ugly enough, it's still not accurate even if this is comics. This character should be clearly male, not a Tumblr OC you could pass off as female

Barring the 4th wall breaking they do with Prime now (which got old fast) it could be interesting to see Prime navigate the weird changes DC has made to Superman now like the Warworld children, that one city of Kryptonite that popped up, and what ever nonsense villains there are now that he could probably deal with without issues (but won't because editorial).

KO is a slog, Joker wanking, Absolute versions of the heroes (but probably evil) in the next "round" and it takes forever to come out. This is not interesting and throwing in characters outside DC won't increase sales, who wants to read Superman vs Homelander if we know Superman will win, even if the leaks weren't released beforehand? It's not like this will matter, status quo will come back and every character will pretend this didn't happen or bring it up as a "remember that" one liner.
