Dead by Daylight Community - A Toxic Community that gets upset if you do something they don't like, DDoS's streamers or the servers because they've lost a match or do it for shits & giggles, and is the game that caused some controversy

What is Dead by Daylight?
th-1219004586.jpg
Dead by Daylight (or DbD as the community call it) is a 4v1 online multiplayer asymmetrical horror game, where you either play as a survivor or a killer. There are 4 survivors in the match, the survivors goal is to repair 5 generators and open the exit doors to escape, or if your last person standing then you take the hatch which makes you instantly escape. The Killer's goal is capture all 4 survivors and hook them. That's basically the game in a nutshell but there is a lot of shit happening, and me explaining everything would fill up half the thread. So if you're curious as to how the game works then look it up on YouTube.

So why is the community Lolcows? Well not only are the most toxic online gaming communities I think I ever seen, but there is also people who actually commit illegal activity's just because they lost a match which we will get into that later.

Toxicity
Its no surprise that the community is really toxic, if you play a match as a killer or a survivor and you do something that the other team does not like they will say a lot of shit like, telling you to kill yourself, hopes that your loved ones dies of cancer or celebrating that a loved one died of cancer. The dbd community is toxic to the point where if you type in "Dbd Community" or "Dead by Daylight Community", the first result is someone explaining why the community is toxic.

Illegal Activity

The Community has also done illegal activity's two of what I know are.
  • DDoS Streamers or the Servers
  • Stealing Money from Someone

One of these illegal activity's is DDoSing streamers or the Dead by Daylight Servers. One of these YouTubers, CoconutRTS has uploaded some videos explaining / showing that he had experienced the DbD servers getting DDoSed or had gotten DDoSed himself, here are some clips.

In this clips, CoconutRTS experienced a cheater & defeated him; In response the cheater decided to DDoS the Dead by Daylight Servers.

In this clips CoconutRTS is explaining the DDoS problem that happened in 2023. Mentioning how multiple streamers (Himself included) had experienced DDoSing as well as giving a guide on how to not get DDoSed.

Here are the full videos of where these clips are from.

The DDoS's are so bad that the official Dead by Daylight Xitter account had to address the DDoS problem twice; One in 2021, and the other in 2023.

One final thing to mention is this clip that YouTuber / Streamer Ardetha had experienced. Back when he was playing DbD, a hacker was in his lobby and was able to create a fake DLC pop up called "Toilet Paper & Hand Sanitizer" (As well as other DLC Names taunting him) and were trying to confirm this fake transaction, meaning that hackers can literally take money out of your own pocket just by playing Dead by Daylight. This clip (according to him) was when the COVID lock down had happened which was 4 years ago.

The Unknown Controversy

In March 2024 BHVR would add a new killer in the game (a long with a survivor) called the unknown. It was a deformed character who had a power that shoots projectiles and wielded an axe as its default weapon, you can learn more about the killer here (A).

So why did this killer get into controversy? Well you see the unknown was voice acted by a transgender person who thought the unknown was a representation of her, and accuses BHVR of transphobia.

It would caught the attention of online gaming forum.

It even got the attention of Null.

He would later pass away in April 30th, 2024.

The Cannibal Controversy
The Cannibal (or Bubba) is a killer in DBD that is from the popular Texas Chainsaw Massacre movie, you can learn more about the killer here (A).

So why did this character get into controversy. Well it wasn't the character itself that caused controversy, it was one of the cosmetics from the cannibal that caused controversy. See back in when the killer was released (or somewhere in a update am not sure) The Cannibal was able to collect all faces of the original survivors.

However one of those cosmetics that you can wear was Claudette (who is the African American women). When this cosmetic was available it caused some people to stream snipe Black Streamers, while wearing this cosmetic and a lot of Black People would claim that this cosmetic is "Black Face".

In 2022 BHVR would remove the masks in patch 5.5.0. Not just Claudette's mask, all of the masks. BHVR would address this in their Developer Update.

The Community's reaction was mixed, some think that this was for the best, while others think that this is ridiculous all because of a couple racist people used it to target Black Content Creators.

Hackers
Hackers are a thing in Dead by Daylight (obviously), hackers would also stream snipe content creators. But instead of showing off / promoting their cheats or try to ruin the game for content creators, they would instead try to ruin the streams.

One of these ways that hackers would do to ruin the stream is by holding the streamers hostage. Holding someone hostage is thing to where hackers would makes themselves immortal during the endgame collapse (A), and once the timer ends they would be still alive and since the game doesn't know what to do they match would go on until the game hits the 2 Hour Limit which the game would end and the killer will win. But streamers don't want to wait 2 Hours for the match to end, so they would just DC (Disconnect), but doing that would mean that the hacker had "won" which would encourage them to fuck with you even more. So streamers would just play something else for their viewers until the match hits the 2 Hour Mark. Here are some videos to show you an example of hostages and cheating in general.

There is also some infamous cheaters in the community that I would like to share. :)

Cardi B

Cardi B is a infamous hacker who wears the Dwight character with a charity shirt and with a Christmas hat and would hold people hostage or just ruin the killers experience in general. There is a bunch of videos talking about him and there is some reddit posts on the r/deadbydaylight about how they "met the infamous Cardi B Hacker" he is a well known hacker in the Dead by Daylight Community. Here is some videos to show you who Cardi B is.

VoidTodos is a infamous DbD hacker who broadcasts their hacks on their YouTube and has made some pretty controversial videos. One of his most controversial videos was him stream snipping people who are LGBT.

This video caused a lot of controversy and it even got the attention of big content creators like SpooknJukes & LilithOmen to respond to him.

In Conclusion

The Dead by Daylight Community is one the most toxic online gaming communities I've ever seen. They are willing to do illegal activities just because they either, lost in a video game, or do it for shits and giggles, and has some of the most infamous cheaters I've ever seen; They will give us milk for a while.

Important to Note
One of the best things about this thread is that, since this is an online game not only can you document what's happening in the community. But you can also share your own experiences that you've had with the Community. So if you play Dead by Daylight, and you experienced a match that's worthy to share. Please share it here so we can all laugh at them. :)

I also want to remind users that this is not a discussion about the game itself, its a discussion about the community. If you want to discuss about the game itself then discuss it here.

This thread was long ocerdue, we have a thread on Games sub forum on this game with 500+ pages, with most of the most about the petty dramas these people get involved in
Well now we got this thread. :)

I always see threads in the Off-Topic Games boards as a way to just talk about the game in general. I created this thread, because the community are actual Lolcows and I'm surprised we didn’t have a Lolcow thread on them now so here it is.

The community is still alive and kicking so it’s not too late.

I usually do not give a shit about how people play a video game but I tend to be a pretty wholesome player and, in games where it's relevant, gravitate towards classes that benefit the team's lineup and cohesion rather than the ones most people enjoy solo queuing. I bring the medkit or toolbag, rather than the flashlight.

DbD is the only game where I found people so outright unpleasant playing both survivor and killer, that I stopped after putting in a decent amount of hours - the community was THAT off putting.

As killer I'd actively avoid hooking someone multiple times in sequence so everyone has a similar chance. I liked when someone gave a solid chase without griefing or just played really well and - especially as Michael Myers - would carry those people to the hatch if it was really fucking close, after sacrificing the rest.
It's genuinely strange to me that with this game specifically that offers a lot of cool options to work together as survivors and essentially makes the killer a kind of game director (because a lot of the round's fun hinges on the killer's playstyle and performance), this is the result. Too bad.
Solid thread - though I reckon the lgbt shit is really just for virtue signal marketing.

This is probably one of the worst communities I've ever encountered in any game. I am not exaggerating. It's hostile to the point that it's seen as a cool thing to be the biggest cunt you can be (im so toxic!! xdddd). Ironically they are mostly women, their simps and "tolerant" lefties. They will abuse everything they can in order to boost their egos. Usually they call themselves toxic, either in nickname or on profile. They queue as a party with voice chat (aka they're cheating), with only meta perks and equipment. Then they will trash talk regardless whether they win or lose. If they win then you need to uninstall. If they lose you're abusing something and devs need to nerf your killer (which they do). I did an experiment and left my profile comments public for few matches and got at least a page of insults. The amount of hate these people spew is insane. But I guess they don't say nigger so it's ok.

The worst thing is that devs actually cater to these people. Like instead of dropping the gimmick that survivors can't communicate with each other and balancing the game around that fact, they keep the facade up. Then these aforementioned groups of people grow big egos thinking they're some pro gamers further worsening the problem. Here's a good video on it:

Isn't this the game that had a tranny voice actor that killed himself some months later after some controversy about the character he voiced? Anyway, this is probably one of the most unoriginal games I've seen, lately they have been adding horror movie characters to keep the community interested.

I used to enjoy this game as a casual spooky slightly silly horror game, but as soon as I saw vids of high ranking players and the tism fits everyone got into, I ran for the hills. The multitude of community shit shows on this slightly below average horror game with an amalgam of random IPs has always fascinated me. Though I don't think it would be nearly as entertaining if it wasn't evident that the devs, for the most part, have zero clue how to handle any of it. Good work so far on the thread.
Please include the video of the dev being completely bullied on a Korean livestream of the game lol.

So it's just another video game community.

Yea, and it was named "The Unknown" and it looked something straight up from Valid people taking L's pictures.

I remember playing this with an ex girlfriend who was into this game. I never really saw the appeal as it just gets boring after the forth match for me personally.
Its mainly due to its kind of sandbox approach its not the goal itself thats fun. Its how you avoid the killer and approach those goals that make it fun. Am not going to explain everything about game play, but one of the important things as the survivor is making the killer waste its time. So the you get into a chase with the killer and you need to survive this chase as long as you can while your team does the generators, you have to use everything in your disposal that means using your perks, items, pallets, and windows in front of you.

Then again if Dead by Daylight simply just isn't the game for you that's fine; Video Games are subjective after all.
