Dead Island 2 - Welcome to HELL-A - Haha so funny

Well I'm not planning on getting it until it comes out on Steam, and even then at a heavily reduced price. Seems like a good timewaster though for when I want to bash in zombie heads.

I gave this game a try! It's bad.

Nobody cares about this stupid game. Look, the last post in this thread was from April 23rd, two days after it launched. So here's some gameplay footage I recorded and stitched together:

  • This is a 2023 game and the first clip showcases how there is less interactivity with dead NPCs than even Half-Life 2 had NINETEEN YEARS AGO
  • At 0:36, you can see my character's hand clipping through the model's head
  • At the 1:00 mark, I cut to a clip of some early-game zombies I killed and I cut them up - they don't cut dynamically (Shadow Warrior did this ten years ago), but do come apart by just... kinda exploding apart, from vaguely where you slashed? (Though they are much gorier than zombies in older games used to be)
  • At 1:36, I jump to another scene where you can look in the mirror and see the weapon I'm holding just kind of... floating in the air. The character model is completely invisible, despite having a full shadow elsewhere. I then slash at the mirror, and it does not dynamically shatter or anything, but instead just throws up some decals to demonstrate it getting cracked.
The gameplay itself is unremarkable and trite. If you have ever played Dead Island 1, or Left 4 Dead, or Killng Floor, or just about any other zombie game, you've played this. For all the time in development hell, it sure doesn't do a single damn novel thing. I don't think anybody expected the game to be good, but in case you're wondering, it's really, really not.
I figured as much. Dead Island 1 at least was the first of the open world FPS zombie games and was a good kinda bad. I dumped hundreds of hours into that one. And an equal amount went into Dying Light which was nothing more than a much more improved DI. Speaking of which, I might redownload that since I've heard DL2 is the shits.

yeah I never completed Dead Island 1, but it came out before zombies as a whole just became so banal, and it was the first game I played that did first person melee really well. It was pretty fun and the whole resort island setting was very fresh.

Dead Island 2 feels like it should have come out no more than like two years after that, and it doesn't even take place on an island, but instead another depiction of L.A.

you know this game has been cracked right? its how im playing it.
AUGH YEAH

I remember DI being pretty difficult for some reason, especially when you get to the prison complex. One thing I miss while playing that was the amount of hacked guns in circulation on the PS3 servers. You'd have a guy join your room and just start throwing shit on the floor like guns with unlimited ammo or unlimited grenades.

And something DI had that DL didn't even get till DLC was vehicles and you could drive a sizeable portion of the map. It's the one zombie game of that genre I remember you had to be extra careful wondering on your own if you were playing with other people since you could get ganged up on easily and you don't have the parkour like DL to get away.

shouldve been oahu as it's actually an island, though i dont mind the la setting that much. dead island japan would be an interesting setting though

They love throwing Katanas and Wakizashis in these things, they may as well.

They added Denuvo at the last fucking second lmao
I'm so fucking arse mad they have denushit on it i wanted to buy it to play with my friend. And it's a reasonably fucking price with the 50% for once.
i played the cracked version and it was fun but wanted to play it with someone else and now i have to wait even longer for denushit to be removed.

I really wish you could turn off the fucking slow-mo kill effect. I'm playing as the speed chick who gets a damage bonus against lone zombos and using cards that buff flying kicks, so I'm sprinting around fly-kicking everything with massive damage, and it triggers on just about every fucking zombie.

The NG+ update dropped today, and it does not fuck around. You're immediately fighting a super Flame Bloater backed up by Crushers and walkers, lmao

New level cap is 40. Update does exactly what it says, and this game had its hooks in me pretty sharply at release. I'm glad it found an audience and continues to get updates, as sporadic as they are.

Anyone put time into the new multilayer mode?
