Dead video game series/franchises you refuse to let go

It's not technically a series, but I wish the characters from the Street Fighter EX series created by Arika would return for a new fighting game. Apropo fighting games, where's a new Darkstalkers or Rival Schools game at, Capcom?

Oh, and Imperium fucking Galactica! There are quite a few Hungarian RTS gems out there (SWINE, Haegemonia), but most developers don't have the resources or opportunity to make their own projects. Still, it's always nice to see a staff of my homies work on a bigger title, like Silent Hill: Shattered Memories.

I was never a Spyro fan growing up, but I remember discussing The Legend of Spyro with a friend. It's a (gritty) reboot that followed the original trilogy and attempted to give the game a serious, edgy plot.

In particular, The plot summary for Dawn of the Dragon should be mandatory reading for anyone aware of Spyro. It's spectacularly autistic.

I got the first Legend of Spyro game for Christmas one year. It was.....weird, especially since Gary Oldman of all people voices a character. I appreciate that they were trying to take a different take on the franchise but I don't really care for the obvious 2edgy4me road they went down.

LISA is unlikely to get a sequel, which is a pity as it was to me one of the most amazing indie games I've played. It's wrapped up but then... it tears me apart.

At least theres LISA the Spiteful.

Valkyria Chronicles. Just pretend that Azure Revolution doesn't really exist and isn't a sequel that A: Nobody outside of Japan wanted and B: looks like every single JRPG made in the last ten years. Also, forget about that waifu-tastic, Japan-exclusive f2p card game that was around a couple years ago and served only to bleed dry the bank accounts of lonely otakus. And those two sequels on the PSP. Alright, Valkyria Chronicles 3 was actually okay, but there's no excusing VC2. That was literally anime high school with guns. And needless grinding. Because Sega literally wanted the Monster Hunter audience.

Instead, quietly fume that Sega isn't handing the IP over to Creative Assembly, who could probably knock a true Valkyria sequel out of the park. Even if they fell short of that, they'll get the XCom audience, anyway. Strategy, guns and waifus but no snaketits. The money would print itself.

And then suddenly remember that Sega never makes good decisions. Ever.

Metroid isn't dead, it's just in one of its typical "what the fuck do we do with it now?" phases that always last at least half a decade. Seriously, Super Metroid came out in '94, and then we didn't get anything until 2002 came around and kicked off the epic Prime trilogy along with motherfucking Fusion. Eight years between those fuckers, most likely because Nintendo wasn't sure how to transition the series from 2D into 3D until Retro came along and blew our minds.

It's not surprising to see the series goes into another lull after the shitstorm that was Other M. I think Nintendo was banking on that game starting another wave of games (like Prime did) but then the universal backlash killed those plans so they put the franchise on hiatus while they try to figure out a new strategy.

Poor @DeagleBoipussy420 will never get another F-Zero game, though.

Mario Kart's prominence really cannibalized what little there was of F-Zero left (link). Honestly, maybe SimCity, and by extension, the whole "Sim" product line before Maxis was bought and hijacked by EA.

The loss of Maniac Mansion and Monkey Island, too (wish someone could make a real "Monkey Island 5" epic).

S.W.I.N.E. was an excellent RTS game (it was more leaning towards real-time tactics, though).
I used to have the official Russian version of the game - thanks to a really awesome translation, it was actually much better in terms of dialogues, voices and humour than the English version. Sadly, it doesn't work on anything newer than Windows 98.

Maybe it's simply because of nostalgia, but I still love the original trilogy of Spyro the dragon. Even though he was another "mascot with attitude" of the 90's the games were done super well and they even got the drummer from The Police to do the music and it all has this quality to it I can't explain.
Then Universal bought out the guys who made it (I forget the studio's name) and they made shitty gameboy advanced version (they are nearly unplayable and I have played them) and Enter the Dragonfly which is literally not a finished game. Then they had that werid reboot with the chick dragon everyone seemed to like (at least dragonboos or whatever they're called all base their art style on these three games) and Spyro got edgy.
I don't have a problem with Skylanders, the idea is fucking genius as a money making thing, the characters are fun and interesting and the gameplay is a fun beat em up to play with a friend. At least kids today will know of Spyro but the magic will never be recaptured :(

Seeing what happened to Conker and Spyro, it makes it easier to be the weirdo who still plays the butt joke of first person shooters HALO.

I don't think I'm ever going to actually quit HALO despite all the bullshit 343i drug its white knights and loyalists through. I have too much history with the original games. H5 is better than that piece of shit Halo 4, ten times better, but boy did 343i drop the ball with the single player and let-fuck-all Final Fantasy plot line.

I won't bitch out and forget the Master Chief Collection too, boy did that ruin a whole 2015 for me almost.

But I don't think that hurts anyone else to keep playing so... Go figure, right? *sigh*

I want a proper sequel to Super Mario RPG. Paper Mario and Mario Luigi are more of their own series at this point, and Geno was badass.
That'd be cool but like, getting Geno back might be hard considering he's owned by Square Enix atm
I want Geno in Smash and then everyone can shut up about it. Cloud got in

Aw man, don't even get me started on Russian pc games! Stuff like Evil Island, Rage of Mages or Outcry are so up my alley! Etherlords was fun as well. Oh, and Polish games such as Gorky 17 or Call of Juarez must sound familiar to at least a few of my fellow kiwis!

EDIT: I just got reminded by the thread about Lionhead Studios getting closed about Bullfrog Studios, Molyneux's original developing group. Man, if I only there was a Dungeon Keeper 3, I miss good ol' Horned Reaper!

It took several years of dark sorcery just to get Sony to finally remember that Legend of Dragoon exists long enough for them to put it on the PSN Store, but it hasn't done much to sate my lust for a remake.

Frog Fractions!

For real though. Star Wars Startegy games: Like Rebellion and Empire at war. The spirit lives on with some awesome mods, but i truly want to crush the rebellion again.

And It was mentioned earlier but Space Marine. Captain Titus you will not be forgotten
