To be fair, until recently posters really only had to worry if they were directly fucking with cows or making threats. That all changed with the Christchurch shooting - ironically, that event forced some of us to use a VPN to access the farms instead of it being optional.

I've had an email from Akin Philips too, subject: YOUR BENEFIT. I'm not even going to open it, especially now as I'm sure it'll be the same as yours. I'll probably dump this email now, which I set up just for the farms but it'll be interesting to hear how many others have been sent this.
I lurked for months before joining & took Nulls advice about a separate email & I'm a Tor boi too, so I'm not too bothered about things but it's mildly annoying knowing this email addy is out there. I'm a Britfag too but don't believe in the UK's so called hate-speech laws, I live by my own laws & morals. Fuck da police.

That's key. It's kind of like how the only truly 100% chance of avoidance of STDs is celibacy. If you are really genuinely worried about the content that is posted, the only way to be 100% sure of no pushback is not VPNs and burner email addresses, it is not to post. I am permanently attached to the VPN tit, my email is meaningless nonsense and my handle isn't used anywhere else on the internet, by me or anyone else. That doesn't make me safe, but it reduces my risk to a tolerable amount.

Eh, it comes with the territory really. Pretty much the exact second I created an account back in 2013 someone started trying to sign me up for adult dating websites, gay porn forums, etc. It stopped after a few months. My point is, if anyone actually used a legit email to create an account here, then they're insane.

Many years ago in the aftermath of an attack by Gamerfood, I was warned of a "compromise" and that I should change all my passwords despite being famous for forgetting them.
Then years later, I found I used a burner email to register and that I changed passwords for nothing.
And it was for a character who not only seems to have only one emotion, that being anger, but who strived to constantly make that clear.

With Null's mention that he might send a mass mailing out about the compromise once everything seemed to be back up and as normal as possible, I checked my inbox and found a spam from yesterday. NGL, I figured it was only a matter of time before spam bots harvested the leaked addresses and started sending crap to them.
My spam, however, didn't come from Akin. There was no name attached to the sending address, and the subject was simply "Hello" with "I have a business proposal for you." as the body content.
At this point, I'm not worried, but if the spam levels increase, I'll likely discard this burner account and start another one just like I did after the last data compromise I had to deal with.
I lurked for an extended time as well, read the various cyber safety tips, and took the advice to heart in choosing a rather generic name and using a separate account for registration.
As tempting as it once was for people to use the same name and credentials on multiple sites, breaches such as this show why it's not that good of an idea any more.

Not worried, because I set up a Farming only email, but I've had some fun emails from:
Region Loan (with a completely different reply address to senders address),
Davies Allen (ATTN VERTRAULICH) the typical dead relative left shtloads of money and I want you to help me get it email written in German, two different reply to and senders addresses.
gnorris "Your Claim Info" from an .au address.
Laurent Goborit, but the senders email address is a mikeade then numbers at Hotmail.com with the reply address gaboritlaurent yahoo address (Another dead relative email, this time written in French) ,
Not a single Mail order bride, Penis enlargement or Fckbuddy email. I'm very disappointed.
This is the first time I have knowingly been on a breached list...and to be honest, I'm really glad it was from on here, because this is the website that I have been the most careful on, and I have used as many of the tips learnt from Lurking as I can remember.
I'm as computer savvy as an elderly grandma trying to google by writing on a Facebook status, but lurking here before joining made me overhaul all my email addresses and passwords, so thankyou Kiwi's.

The reason your spam was all but blank is because your email provider's security software automatically pruned out any dangerous images or links in the body of the email as well as any attachments. The spam with malware really only works these days on really old, unsecure mailservers and there are very few of those left in the first world.
