Death Battle - Analyzing weapons, armor, and skills on the Internet since 2010.

It's about time we had an episode that could potentially go either way. Felt like half the episodes last year (and all the ones this year so far) were just stomps where everyone knew the answer right away.
That and get something so blatantly wrong it just proves they don't know what they're talking about.

Going through comments, I’ve seen a lot of folks have a sense of “not great, not terrible either” when it comes to the animation, though some had issues with some choices made, but some wrote that off as limitations.

As for next time, the biggest reaction I’ve seen is shock that we’re getting ANOTHER anime matchup, and folks wondering if this is gonna be like Marvel vs DC and the kind of thing that’s going to be made into episodes because reasons like popularity or the algorithm. Some were also pretty interested since Denji vs Yuji looks to have some debate potential, and another I saw just hoped that Denji is actually portrayed in character since he felt Makima and Reze weren’t.

While I still agree with the outcome (Gru has a much better track record than Megamind as a villain and hero), I'm a little disappointed that they didn't use either of Megamind's mech suits. You know, like the one specifically designed to take on people with superpowers? Hell, Minion barely got to do anything outside of sitting on a chair, and Dr. Nefario wasn't even mentioned in the fight. Between that and the lousy animation, what really saved the episode for me was the humor. Both Gru and Megamind got a lot of fun one-liners and references to their respective films. Even Gru accidentally killing Megamind just as he was about to explain that he wasn't a villain fits the tone of both movies.

So they are just going to ignore the whole “replicate Metroman’s absurdly OP powers through a suit or just a science juice” ?

I legit expected the skeleton turn out to be a replica that Megamind used after using metro man’s speed, it just felt too similar that it seemed they were setting that up for a “twist” win

I'd just expect more time and care put into this episode since it was a Kickstarter goal and because of how immensely popular both IPs are. Took them ages to finally get around to it and then it was basically cobbled together with bandages and a prayer.
Devil Artemis leaving really hurt them.

If I had a nickel for every time a Death Battle involving two cartoon characters was decided thanks to a one-off gag involving a laser, I'd have two nickels... which isn't a lot, but it's weird that it happened twice, right?
