Death note - angry teenager finds notebook and kills quater of the population

I'm the sort who thinks no single man should be able to judge mankind, no matter how nice it would be to magically kill people who I "deem" corrupt and dangerous. I absolutely saw Light as evil and pretty much watched the show as if it was a villain protagonist story, like American Psycho. Honestly I never even thought about seeing Light as good, but I guess some people can feel that way.

I saw something about the original creators doing a new Death Note run. Not entirely sure if it's post-Kira or AU (article said "a world without Kira" and was unclear) but Ryuk gives the Death Note to some middle schooler.

PS Naomi Misoara best waifu Misa is trash
It’s post Kira:
However, someone who’s not making a comeback is Kira, the series’ original human protagonist. The new manga installment is being promoted with the premise “The Death Note reappears in a world where Kira no longer exists,” and so instead Shinigami Ryuk will be serving Minoru Tanaka, a boy who for three years running has tested as the most intelligent junior high school student in Japan.

My own interpretation of death note is that there is no justice in death note all the L wants to catch kira but he isn't motivated by justice.he just doesn't want to lose.

All the characters in death note want to catch kira but they do it for their own personal gain.

But that's just my own interpretation of death note.

I've actually gotta give the manga a read through from start to finish as it's one of many I haven't done that for yet. But I agree with Robobobo about Light just being a real asshole even before he went all nutty on people.

Edit: Shit, I probably should have mentioned I did watch a bit of the anime but I just prefer reading manga versions as it's faster.

Light was a gigantic piece of shit and a simple serial killer. There's no question, even if L was doing this out of some devotion to a game and not out of empathy, it didn't really matter. You're talking about a morality vs. deliberate action, killing anyone who stood in his way for whatever reason, even if they were just. He tested it at first, then clearly enjoyed the killing with the God-Like power associated with it. The guy even killed his own father without giving a fuck. There is absolute no doubt he was a total sociopath from the beginning.

The problem is Death Note sort of craters once L is killed through sheer bullshit which is the main problem with Death Note. The cat and mouse game between Light and L was basically the entire series. What happened doesn't feel organic and the writers realize what a problem they are in. So they fiat it in. Then the last part they sort of just stumble through.

Matsuda is so awesome because Light gives this grandiose speech about some bullshit and monoluging, and thinking he's an unkillable Godlike villian, when he just got fucked ten ways from Sunday and Matsuda just fucking fills him with holes. The Ryuk just writes Light's name in and he ceases to exist, his soul consigned to oblivion. He dies so pathetically, its great

I like how they handled Light’s death in the manga over the anime. Much more fitting to see him groveling and crying on the floor desperate to avoid those 40 seconds to his death while Ryuk taunts him.

I'm inclined to agree with Asshole's assessment that Light was consumed by his god-complex and in the end was a barely more intelligent and sane version of Mr. "DELETE!!". He also squadwipes entire police units just to hide tracks he made from overzealous slaughtering and fails to understand the tailspin his life is taking from that point on.

That's fucking awesome, since he basically considered himself a god. I would have drawn the snot and shit while Ryuk mocks all his efforts and how pathetic life is, and he makes light shoot himself.

When he killed the wife of the FBI agent, anyone rooting for Light is a fucking idiot. He kills a grieving widow because he was going to get caught and disappears her.

Yeah, that was the turning point for me. It wasn’t so much that he killed her, but that he had to smugly mock her right before it kicked in. That’s when I went “okay, yeah. Fuck this guy.” You kinda lose your “doing this for the good of humanity” cred after that.

I think the FBI agent killing itself was fucking bad

I mean, I don't think there was any tailspin. He was already a narcissistic sociopath who charmed the audience, but I've dated people like him, so I knew he'd go after his own desires. And that was murder. He had no capacity for empathy and was willing to kill anyone who got in his way or remotely annoyed him. I think he was just given the ability to do what he naturally wanted, expanded to supernatural heights.

Absolutely. I was so fucking pissed when he killed Naomi and the agents, because relationships and emotion meant nothing to him. He loved outsmarting them and murdering them all, much to the horror of literally anyone.
