"Wait... a white man does self-defense and tries to find the man who murdered his wife?!? RRRRRREEEEEEE..."
Huh. Self-Defense must be a thing that the libtards hate.

It's horrible when a white racist, usually a cop, shoots back at someone shooting at him just because he's black.

No, they just assume that all rapists in Chicago are black or Hispanic.

That's not racist, of course.

A late as hell hot-take from The Guardian here:

Some of them seem more offended about a movie than the actual murders in Chicago.
You can whine without guilt about a movie that is 100% fictional no matter how real the events they're based on may be.

Do that with a real thing and people take legit offense.

From the Guardian comments section on that article. Not sure if troll or genuine Tumblrina. Apparently Godwin's Law is problematic.

I'd like to think that somewhere in the afterlife, Michael Winner is looking down upon all of this with a wry smile, and is all like:

Also, Death Wish 2's soundtrack is a pretty alright listen, especially if you like Jimmy Page.

Sure, there was salt when Eli Roth showed the trailer to his remake of Death Wish. They complained about toxic masculinity (how dare the main character feel like a failure for not being there to protect his family), revenge violence and racism for a white guy helping out some black people and shooting a black criminals. Now that it's out, the salt is pouring.

Now the real fun is that the regular viewing audience has given the film an over 80% approval rating.

The majority of the audience probably has never seen the original Death Wish either. The original movie is an indictment against vigilantism.

Eli Roth has never made anything good aside from the Thanskilling trailer.

True, but there's a happy feeling I have the people are just getting sick of this SJW Hollywood crap. They don't want to be forced into an agenda, enjoy the occassional macho badass and see movies get their asses kissed because it has has the proper labels then shove the film down their throats.

When critics don't like something, there's a good chance that it might actually be good. Keep in mind that so many of these people are hired to try to sway public opinions, not represent public opinions.

Case in point: Ghostbusters 2016.

The critics have been pretty damn good at conveying the audiences disdain with subpar films in the last two years, for me anyhow. However too many of said critics are absolute nobodies that RT just lets onto their site.

There is a reason studios have been using more review embargo's than in the past.

I do partially agree this is very bad timing to release a movie about vigilantism in this political climate. The inclusion of social media and radio in trailer along with Bruce Willis being a terrible actor since 2006 turned me off from seeing this.

Case in point: Ghostbusters 2016.

That was a shitstorm of terrible ideas and virtue signaling. Whatever the Sony Pictures people tried to spin in the press and bribing small reviewers didn't pay off at all. People knew the movie would be shit from the moment it started production.

These "critics" who are bashing this movie for political wrongthink are the bizzaro world versions of the Moral Majority/Religious Right of the 80s through the early 00s. These soyboy wannabe philosopher kings come off as extremely self-important the way that they present themselves as society's moral guardians, self-appointed to talk down to us ordinary folk about how these ideas have no place in the public discourse while they sip their lattes in their posh LA ivory tower (that is partially paid for by daddy) as we toil away at our meaningless service jobs and struggle to make ends meet. But as they're chuckling their asses off about their oh-so-clever soundbites they generate for their "reviews", the plebs that they're chastising are actually out supporting the film with their hard earned dollars, thus setting the possibility for a sequel and ensuring that everyone involved gets more work in the future, in addition to erecting a giant middle finger in the critics' direction.
